Omg this takes me back so much. Between the years of 1989 and 1992 especially, I would just play this channel and watch it for sometimes hours actually. I was ages 4-7. Yeah I was weird. I didn't go out much but between this and the Weather Channel, they were my comfort a lot. Hell, now that I'm in my 30s, I often look for videos like this as well as old Weather Channel long broadcasts. I miss my childhood so much. These were also greater and simpler days. Even when they changed this format to the more vibrant one from like 1993-1998 I still watched, and a little after it became the "TV Guide Channel". Thank you for posting this.
this is crazy how many views this has....i thought i was the only one that used to sit up and watch the prevue channel and the weather channel. it's comforting somehow
Yes me as well these were the good old days and do you remember the blues song on this channel it was definitely mid 90s and the song lyrics was simple and something like I need my preview channel yeah that’s what I need , I want my preview channel or something like that
Nowadays in 2023, if you don’t mind the source of it, try watching the FOX Weather channel, as at night they have this thing called Night Light where they show a slow moving map of the world with all kinds of weather info, and on somedays before the Night Light, or if there a big hurricane somewhere in the US which they cancel Night Light, they will show weather data, when a live person is not giving updates, similar to how The Weather Channel would do, all with calming music during both those programming times
You're not alone. I was a weird kid. From the ages of 4 until maybe 14, especially between 4 and 7, I would put this on for hours at a time and relax to it. Then into the 2000's a little after it became the TV Guide channel, it got weird so it lost its appeal. Should've just kept it the regular guide channel with nothing but ads on the top half of the screen. I remember when I was 5 and 6 years old, I'd have this on late at night and watch the Miss Cleo commercials until I could fall asleep. Definitely beats warm milk.
I remember seeing Preview Channel when it was on Prime Cable (now Xfinity) when i saw it just to find what's on. That was before it metastatized into the TV Guide Channel.
Anyone else remember the preview channel blues? I’m trying to find it and it definitely was mid 99s definitely 95 even maybe 93 or 94 and even 96? I believe the bumper/promo was in black and white and lyrics something like I need my preview channel, yeah that’s what I need, I need my preview channel and ect and it was like a boogie blues riff I’m sure?? I can’t be the only one
I remember back in the 80s after I got home from playing in the HS football game, I’d go to my girls house rep blocks from me and order pizza and we’d sit there and watch horror movies all night. No parents home, gone for the weekend. Great times, miss those days...
just watching this channel, again, makes me wanna cry, a little. now, today, the only time u wanna see what's coming on ur fav channels, is if u have digital cable or satilette.
Wow! As a fellow NYC'er, this channel lineup brings back lots of memories! The only channels, apart from the local network affiliates, that haven't been moved around since this video (or probably EVER) are Viacom's channels (Nickelodeon, VH1, MTV), STILL on Channel 6, 19 and 20 to this day. And yes, believe it or not there has been a dedicated following for the defunct Prevue Channel (and the music played on it) here on YT for years now!
Why the hell was Universal Soldier using music from Terminator 2 Judgement day? The song that plays when the T-1000 is chasing after John on his bike from the galleria is playing in the background during a Universal Soldier preview on this guide, now that's weird.
When I was about 7 or 8 I actually made my own prevue channel with all the shows that I watched all day in the summer using this as the guide. I'd watch it all day until I wrote down every show/time and channel of all my favorite shows. Then i'd make a copy of it but with the channel numbers for my Grandmother's house because I spent half my time there and her channels were different than mine. My mom still makes fun of me for that I don't think it was that weird! Back me up...am I odd? lol
This makes me oddly nostalgic. I miss the old Prevue Channel, especially it's "Killer Tracks" music. ("Chase the Clouds" away being my favorite.) Hard to believe this was 20 years ago, and I was a little kid then. Also, hard to believe "Maniac Mansion" had a TV show briefly.
Yup...this was my Grandma's cable with American Telecasting back in the day. Oddly enough I used to watch this all he time (the same as I did with the the old Teletext community Service station on Century (now Time Warner) )
I wish people had some TV Guide and Time Warner Home Theatre stuff from 1999-2001 in Queens, NY. I only ever found ONE video showing the feature presentation of Time Warner Home Theatre briefly.
It's been nine years since your comment. But in case you hadn't found the track, it's called "Extraterrestrial TeenyBopper." ua-cam.com/video/cBkys9xt7r4/v-deo.html
some people are fascinated by these channels. Plus, these channels were prone to malfunctioning and would occasionally show the Guru Meditation error over what was broadcasted. (these channels were run through (or broadcasted from) the Commodore Amiga.)
If I remember correctly I wanted to make a list of the channels and the scroll was too slow so I figured I'd record it and play it back sped up. Not sure I ever got around to doing that, but I think that was the plan.
@Ahuebner2004 I have identified 3 of the 4 tracks - All in a Day (also later the FamilyVue theme), Stephane's Reveille, and Thoughts of Spain, all from Killer Tracks. I have not identified the other one, or the music at 06m05s.
That's nothing. For me, I was forced to have CMT split with the Prevue Channel. At certain points within the Prevue Channel, the top half would show CMT for a few minutes and then cut back to Prevue's top half. That was torture for me because I used to watch Prevue as a viewer, believe it or not, and to have CMT interrupt my viewing experience was stupid. I'm sure country music fans hated this at the time too.
For Time Warner Cable in New York, they sure had a big channel lineup even in 1993. Most cable services would have 43 channels or a few. BTW, I did a remastered video of the same video, I changed the picture quality and the audio quality. It's on Dailymotion, under "TheRedBaron1985".
+xoddf2 Grand Rapids, MI (Michigan's second largest city; TCI) didn't go above channel 50 until AT&T Broadband took over (1998/1999) while at the same time, Manistee, MI (population 6,500) went up to channel 56 in the mid 1990s

I sincerely love how after channel 79 it starts over. Idk something about that just..makes sense. Those were truly the days. Thanks for this.
Today's generation don't know how good we had it back in the day.

RIP Snackwell's 1992-2022
And don't forget the dude from LA, "Let's paint, exercise and make pancakes" One of the best obscure cable shows. Good guy as well.

R.i.p. prevue channel.
You'll be missed 😢
Wow 79 Channels in 1993, that was a remarkable cable system. We were maxed out around 62 channels until around 1997.
Back then, AMC was doing a job now performed successfully to this day by TCM. Nostalgia indeed.
Now, the are the network with three Walking Dead shows, and had another show (Mad Men) that HBO passed on.

They just won't let go.
It's frozen tho.
Wow, they still used the PrevuenGuide music on one of the bumpers.
WPIX 11 Honeymooners!😍
OMG this brings back memories. I miss the old days😔🙂🙂
Wow, VCR Plus was sure cutting edge technology back in those days.
dude i remeber prevue channel
Full length movie trailers cut to 30 seconds. Unless it was a movie from Warner Bros on pay-per-view, which were specific.
1993 the year I was born

Whoever you are that uploaded this video, thank you!

You're welcome. Glad I had the video to share.
The 1990's.. were the best.. in everyway,,.music,.life, television.. :-)
Time Warner Cable used to air pay-per-view showings of Warner Bros. films until 2009, that's when DirecTV did it again later in late 2018.
2:04 I remember honeymooners coming on at 12:30am on ch 11 it help me sleep at night

It's not weird. I would consider it to be a hobby.
Watching this was like a trip down memory lane... cheap gas in those days to lol
Yes Saaaa I Looooove my Nastalgic Shit like this👍👍💯💪✊
Hey kids, before we had DVR we had VCR Plus.
Excellent video! Thanks for uploading.
@3:26, I think TPIR used that cue as there Nashville Trip prizes for many years.
Anyone know the music that plays in this?
this is exactly how paragon cable looked in Portland
The name of that "glamour" music is 'Extraterrestrial Teeny-Bopper" from the Killer Tracks library BTW, search for it here on YT
This played on my 19th birthday.
Classic!
I kind of remember that Brooklyn/Queens Cable became Time Warner and this was around the end of 1991-92 or the beginning of 1992-93 period.
Taryn McNamara yea I think it was 1994 when it became Time Warner I remember it also here in Manhattan.
This makes me oddly nostalgic. I miss the old Prevue Channel, especially it's "Killer Tracks" music. ("Chase the Clouds" away being my favorite.) Hard to believe this was 20 years ago, and I was a little kid then.

Almost 30 years now

Prevue Channel, Dec. 30, 1993 - Time Warner Cable, Queens, NY lineup / 2000 Nick at Nite Commercials
79 channels in 1993? Here in Albany we only had around 50, I think ;)
i think we were maxing out around 50 in Utica too
Yes here in Manhattan we had about 79 also. We all live in NY #NewYorkersinthehouse
What's the title of the song at 0:00?
It's "Teeny Bopper" from Killer Tracks.
I don't know if it was this way in Queens, but Channel 35 in Manhattan used to be the X-rated public access channel.
No, Queens didn't have Channel J.
YESSSS! You are right. Thank you !!!
the video jukebox network aka the box was on ch 79 in queens ny
Jon Burr And in Manhattan it was 66,, aww those were the days! oh I miss the 90's! ♡
P... / The Golden Girls S0217 Bedtime Story
what channel was that on lol
These were the days... plus, this was 3 days after I was born!
This may seem strange but I've been looking for the music at 1:26-1:37 for a couple of years. Thank You!
I love the first song of this clip! From 00:00 to 00:40 Does anybody know its name?!!!
It's been nine years since your comment. But in case you hadn't found the track, it's called "Extraterrestrial TeenyBopper."

@@mochamist21 9 yra after... THANK U. Long live the 90s💜 Kind regards from Argentina! We used to have Prevue too💕🙂
@@gusreycrobar De nada. I see this type of entertainment is enjoyed all over the Americas.😁 The 80s and 90s were awesome.
This is great and all but why was anyone recording the Prevue channel and then kept it for 17 years?
some people are fascinated by these channels. Plus, these channels were prone to malfunctioning and would occasionally show the Guru Meditation error over what was broadcasted. (these channels were run through (or broadcasted from) the Commodore Amiga.)
+ahniandfriends123 the Amiga part I knew, the error I did not.

The music in the Universal Soldier trailer is Jerry Goldsmith's score to Total Recall.
Some customers had CMT on Channel 33, others had HBO in Spanish.

Awesome, thank you for posting! Do you have any other Prevue Channel videos?
@Colortiniz Both, I guess. I really like the Prevue Channel and these videos are quite hard to come by.
P... / Kellogg's Program Bumper 1999
Quite advanced for 1993, this had to be a 550 mhz system, were a lot of channels scrambled or just the premiums?
Just the premiums at the time (HBO, etc.)
12:00 shows two CMT's
"Extraterrestrial Teeny Bopper" from Killer Tracks.

I hate it when CMT was combined with this channel. So so stupid to do that and it always crawled under my skin.
@ParanormalRob Just the premiums. I'm not sure if HBO (24) was scrambled, but Showtime (42), Cinemax (45), and 58-63 were.
Advertising on here was strange , awkward, and in my opinion trash.
2004 the richey rich show from Queens on some far off cable channel time warner
