  • In the early 20th century, electric vehicles were a prominent mode of transportation. By 1900, they accounted for about a third of all vehicles on the road in the United States. They were quiet, easy to operate, and didn't require manual cranking like their gasoline counterparts. However, the emergence of the internal combustion engine, combined with mass production techniques introduced by Henry Ford, led to the dominance of gasoline-powered vehicles. The oil and gas industry played a crucial role in this shift, leveraging their resources to establish a robust infrastructure for fossil fuels, which sidelined EVs.
