In case anyone hasn't said it yet those little metal tabs that look like they go nowhere are used by the factory to check for water leaks during the build process (ironic I know lol) from what I remember being told they have them connected to something and if they come into contact with water then it completes a circuit and they can trace where it is leaking from. Once its passed the test instead of removing them all they just just cut all the ends off and leave them in place since they wont be seen anyway - source, I'm a former Audi tech that was told this by a mastertech and yes this video gives me flashbacks of chasing electrical faults forever which I do not miss! Good luck guys, hope the rice works its magic 🤣

All those modules moght not be bad - I had a similar problem with my Porsche Cayenne. I shorted out the alternator module and it make it look like all the modules were bad/couldnt talk but it was just alternator module. It was like the alternator module was screaming on the bus and no one else could talk to each other because once I disconnected the bad alternator module all the others started to talk just fine. You can start disconnecting the bad modules a a few at a time and see if the others start to talk and then add them back one by one.

Just an old guy casual fan of channel with a question about flood cars. I managed a MAACO a long time ago. We had a drive in oven attached to paint booth to speed drying, temp was between 120 and 140. Wonder if it would help dry out car if you put flood car in oven for a bit to let moisture evaporate ? I am guessing it might help dry up areas that would be hard to reach. Curious if it would also dry moisture inside electrical connections.

The problem with a salt-water flood is that just drying out the car is not enough - you need to wash out the salt first and _then_ dry it out, otherwise you've got salt on everything which is a recipe for corrosion later. Hopefully modern electrical connections mostly keep the water out, but any that have got wet need a thorough clean to avoid a thoroughly unreliable car in a few years time.

Tavarish I found your videos years ago when I was a teenager just starting high school. I always had a love for cars but never had family that was into it or anything like that. your videos are what showed me determination and your own pursuit of that knowledge is all it takes so I dived head in and bought an 05 S500 that was dumped at the shop I was apprenticing at and have been building cars better since then. I’m currently building a turbo Subaru BRAT if you ever make it to Salt Lake City to see papa Strad don’t be afraid to check out the local car scene ❤️ love you and your work brother I’m glad to see your building your channel in a way that puts you into new experiences and adventures 🤘🏿

The service loop circuit isn’t just the 1st responders emergency disconnect. That circuit is usually wired in series throughout all the high voltage devices (motors, DC-DC converters, AC compressors…). The low voltage signal is terminated at every high voltage plug, so the contactors will not turn on unless all high voltage wiring is plugged in as well. You probably have hidden corrosion on the circuit somewhere at a connector.

With the doors closed the passenger compartment is almost fully airtight, and you should be able to find a spot around a door edge where you can get a power cord through and still close the door.
You’d need to empty the pan repeatedly but it’ll pull all the moisture out.

How often do you drain your air tanks. It really shouldn't look so misty when you blow air on surfaces.
You guys have been dealing with these issues for so long and still don't take (particularly) electric parts off to clean them in a distilled solution or at least highly filtered water?
I worked at a electronics return facility and took all the parts apart dunked and brushed all the parts in sterile water. Then washed and rinsed once more in sterile water blew them off with less than 50lb pressured air (had some delicate parts too). Once you blew them off and let them dry in a dry ventilated area. Inspected for debris or sediment, then assembled and tested. Never once did I put power to something that was definitely filled with sediment at one time or another. Rice is generally akin to wicking. You can use those packets in many foods that say do not eat as well. If you want to do it professionally you can purchase bulk portions of desiccants to remove moisture. In the process you often leave residue, debris and sediments to solidify and produce electrical shorts in abundance. It's often much easier to remove parts and clean them rather than attempt to find each individual fault.
Having said all that. I understand you can't remove every part, but you can definitely remove any power connection. Wash possibly brush and rinse thoroughly then dry any connection that may have possibly come in contact with the abundance of sediment this seems to have come in contact with. This is a continual problem waiting to happen. It's precisely why many companies call this totaled. They just don't want to deal with the effort. The good part about this procedure is it doesn't have a cost involved, but it does take time.

VCDS is required if you own an Audi and do ANY work yourself. It's not just diagnostic but allows programming as well as real time data as you drive of all modules EXCEPT component protection . Those components are programmed to the VIN so they can only be cleared by a dealer beause they have access to the Audi global database of stolen parts. There's copious documentation of how to use VCDS on the web. A full report only shows errors when they trip and to their degree of severity. And because most modules get certain data from other modules, if one has errors it can cascade down to trip other errors in other modules. The smallest of repairs sometimes show as a huge system breakdown and depending on the importance of the module (i.e. ECM, TCM in traditional cars) it could be catastrophic. A majority of their poke and prod and guessing could easily have been understood via VCDS. And it's clear their Audi helper is not very experienced with VCDS.

Obviously, that's not the case when cars get older or you know dip them in salt water. It would be really cool if you used an oscilloscope and actually hunted down the problems. You could have one module pulling down the CANBUS and that's what is causing the issues. Right to Repair isn't going to go anywhere if no one knows how to use the tools to get the job done.
