I don't want this talk to end,... how I would love to sit in front of this incredible woman!!!
The anecdote at the beginning on mindlessness reminds me of when my daughter told me of a supermarket checkout person she'd seen, asking an obviously blind customer for some age ID as she was purchasing liquor. She had trouble finding some and the checkout girl suggested she should always carry some - such as her driver's licence 🙄
I’m glad I listened to this.
Anybody recommended me to listen Hellen Langer ❤
Wonderful !
Thanks❤

I think the clerk was very mindful. Having done many CC transactions. The first rule is to make sure the card is signed and if not you have to ask them to sign it right then. 2nd rule is to compare signatures. I think she was covering her butt and was very mindful of what she was doing. The only other thing i would have had the clerk do is check another form of ID.
Love Ellen Langer's work
The couple of seconds it took to cross check seem worthwhile. What if different names were used and fraud was later discovered? I also wonder if second ID is in the protocol. The story is effective, but strikes audiences differently. But the variety of perspectives is covered in another part of the presentation. Good stuff.
They don't do any of this anymore, the customer just swipes their own card that is never signed. Is there more cc fraud?
Perfectly normal checks in banking or finance. A fraudster could easily do a different signature the second time, then they wouldn’t match. I would say the assistant was very mindful of her responsibilities👌
@@skippy7208she signed her card in front of the cashier. She then signed her transaction slip in front of the cashier. The cashier compared the two signatures to see if they were the same 😳. That is mindless. A separate document or bank card with her signature already signed was required for comparison at the very least. This human check was to prevent fraud but this cashier would not have prevented it 😮
