    Just the idea that such products are coming back makes me happy! I also read in some tech forums that Samsung is planning to release a tape drive ( a type of external tape storage used with computers) for home use. Isn't that amazing? These bring back a lot of fond memories! After seeing this, I searched for my cassette collection frantically but couldn't find it. Alas. But I found that Walkman that my father gave me in 1985! If I find those cassettes, I’ll try to revive that old Walkman. And of course, I’ll try this one, too! Thanks for this early review! ❤

      Thank you for a feedback, I really appreciate it! But most likely Samsung's drive is for digital tapes used for archiving information, not for audio ones.

      @@PortaFi Yes, tape drives are not for audio. But it'd be cool to have one to store pictures and other files on tapes, ain't it?! Let's see what happens.

      @@sudipchatterjee digital tapes were used as a media for a really long time. in the past they were the best option for price/capacity ratio, nowadays they used more rarely, but still do a good job as backup media

      @@PortaFi Yes, of course. But I was talking about the Samsung tape drive here which is primarily used for storing and archiving digital data. I lived that tape recorder life, too! And I spent a lot of hours disentangling the tapes from the recorders! Those were the good old days! 🙂

    Do you have a link where to buy it from?

      No, I don't have yet. FiiO sold first 200 pcs on AliExpress, and now they're producing new, bigger batch. So, I think it'll be available in the next few weeks, and likely with color options to chose from :)

      @PortaFi  6 місяців тому +1

      it doesn't have Bluetooth, but it has better amp and motor
      anyway, great that we have options :)

      @PortaFi  6 місяців тому

      Yes, it's a fresh release, first batch was only 200 pcs, and they were sold out almost instantly :)
      Now FiiO works on producing a bigger batch, and probably with more colors available

    first of all: this player only knows how to handle type 1 cassettes. it will play the other typed too, but they will sound like garbage. do not fall for this crappy cash grab product. it will sound like crap if you want to use a good tape.
    furthermore a cassette player that does not allow for changing belts or batteries is almost insulting the customer. this product is nothing but an overpriced throw away gadget. you can buy refurbished original sony walkmans which are far superior to this cheap rip off pseudo cassette player. and they even cost much less than this cash grab product. don't get fooled guys. don't support such business practices. don't let them rip you off.
    unless they allow for opening the case to change belts and batteries, adjust speed and azimuth and have a proper setting for type 2 types this is a overpriced toy product.

    • @PortaFi
      @PortaFi  6 місяців тому +1

      I'm almost sure that it's openable (my assumption - heat gun), and you can adjust speed and azimuth
      but anyway, tape players nowaday is anyway kind of toy and nostalgia driver

      @@PortaFiyou can also open it with a hammer.
      haven't portably cassette players always been toys? they are entertainment devices after all. it is about it being a good toy. might needed to be more specific there. the fiio is just an overpriced bad toy that is designed to rip the most money possible out of the customers pockets. also there is no nostalgia with the fiio. if you want nostalgia you buy a real walkman that has been professionally refurbished, has better sound, is servicable, looks cooler and costs half the money.
      i'll admit though: you can fiddle around to adjust speed and azimuth. it is still an insane pain compared to any other walkman that is not one of the contemporary chinese overpriced rip offs.
      dont let them fool you. dont shill for them. they dont care for nostalgia or cassettes or whatever. they just care for you money are probably having a good laugh that there are people out there actually buying this cheap crap.
      if you buy this you enable that company to keep going with their bad business that is directly targeted to basicly harm you financially the most they can.
      that company is literally talking about selling an unfinished product, so that the customers can have a look at it, tell them how good it is and then maybe buy the next few version aswell. absolute insanity.
      enjoy the wow and flutter

      @@KekmanForTheRestOfTheWorld after the hammer, you will unlikely be able to reassemble it back :)
      As for toys… Probably in the mid-90s, they were considered more serious, but not nowadays. I never saw a decent refurbished Walkman for $50 (at least models with a good sound).
      As for adjustments… Maybe speed can be problematic (but my Panasonic from 90th wasn't simpler in this aspect), but azimuth adjustment is the same as on other players I owned.
      For the rest, I bought this player during pre-order, and honestly, it's the gadget that brought me the most joy in the last few years. It's the only criterion for me. Maybe, if I get a good deal, I'll consider getting something with exceptional sound (like some Sony and Aiwa models), but I'm more than satisfied with CP13 and waiting for CD13 and TT13 )))

      @@KekmanForTheRestOfTheWorld I own this unit too and it can assure you it does not suffer from any obvious W&F issues that plague most of its contemporaries. You have not heard it and here you are pontificating like you are some sort of expert on it. Without a sample of your own that you can test for yourself you are in no position to offer any opinion on the subject. Period.
      And lastly, what professionally serviced vintage Sony Walkman costs half the FIIO's $130 dollar retail? Show me a link. Not one of the better Sonys that's for sure. Maybe a budget / plastic model. You couldn't even get a good vintage Walkman serviced for $70 dollars. You don't know what you are talking about.

      @@PortaFiare you working for/with fiio? literally ANY walkman build in the 90s has a way better head in them as this generic head that is in all the cheap modern "Walkmans". it does not make a difference if you buy the fiio or if you buy a 30$ no name walkman off amazon. they all have the same mechanism and they all have the same, bad head.
      the sony ex170/172/190 usually go for 50$ in working condition. they even let you choose between type 1 and type 2 tape. it is absolute insanity that the fiio treats all types the like a type 1. it will sound bad with any tape that is not type 1. for that reason alone the fiio is a piece of overpriced garbage.
      stop shilling that crappy rip off company.
      it is an absolute waste of money aimed at people that just don't know any better and are likely to get scammed by shills like you.
      how much is fiio paying you?
