4:45 He gave you sepals of the hibiscus flower -known in Panama as _saril_ (a mispronunciation of the English word "sorrel"), or Jamaican flower (in Mexico). It is sold during these times, bc we make a spice drink w/it (the sepals are boiled), for Xsmas, which it's served over ice 😋 Panama is a huge melting pot, and we've easily adopted every foreign cultural influence as a way of saying: you are welcome here 🥰 So, the _saril_ drink is (one of many), a Caribbean influence in our country. 7:23 Now, you were at Casco Viejo, and didn't visit the Golden Altar at _Iglesia de San José_ (St. Joseph church)?! -it's the most historical church of Panama! It survived pirate Morgan's looting. The monks painted it w/tar -to avoid its pillage. In order to protect it from any damage, when Morgan arrived at the church (in hope of sacking any gold from there too), they told him that their altar was being repaired, and asked him, if he could donate 10 Ducats -as what legend says-, the pirate responded: _you're a bigger pirate than me,_ and he left. 9:10 Nov, 28th it's the bicentennial celebration of our independence from Spain. That's why you were hearing the rumbling of that band in the middle of the street 🤭 During independence days¹ (we have 2), our numerous bands march in very pristine uniforms. Unfortunately, this year marching bands had to be reduced in numbers (so, no every school/institution was able to participate), and had to book their place in an assigned open area (stadium), in order to be seen by the general public, and transmitted on TV. So, the ppl you saw playing in the street were not able to get booked (or are just an independent band), and ofc, it's relatively impossible to keep anyone to celebrate independence days ✨🇵🇦✨ ¹NOTE: • Nov, 28th -Independence of Panama from Spain (1821) • Nov, 3rd -Independence from Colombia (1903). As much as some might insist to get anal about it, the concept of _separation_ encircles the same principle within this context.
You both make the perfect duo to travel the world…we see all of the hard work and of course the fun in your awesome videos! Loved learning more about Panama…beautiful and full of history!
Great video! Loved watching your tour covering 500 years of history in Panama! Such a fascinating area! Looks like you all had such a fun day together!
Thanks so much for subscribing and hope you enjoy our videos. We do love food, probably a little too much. 🤣 Safe travels and thanks again, John and Bev
Very interesting video. I really enjoyed hearing the history of the two historical “puertos” with all their cool “puertas.” 🤣 John, I appreciate your fun-loving role in this project and Bev, your video editing and trip planning skills just keep improving. Kudos. Who was the musical artist you had on your track in the middle singing in Spanish? Panamanian?
Thanks. This was a fun video for us. The artist is Rendez-Voodoo and it is called “Faster Car” and we used both Spanish and English versions. John and Bev
Great video. Love the story telling and humor. You guys are making us want to come to Panama for sure now. Thanks for sharing your funny experiences and we can’t wait to follow you around the world.
Love the new intro! You hit up some really neat places and the history was really interesting. Never heard the story of Captain Morgan before, so that was really quite interesting!

I'm spending a happy day watching all your world travel videos. As the daughter of a carpenter I also love looking at doors, I see you are in Morocco now so I expect many more beautiful examples. Morocco is a consideration for a frugal travel adventure in late January however I might be heading out into the middle of the Atlantic if I can make the finances work. Thanks for the inspiration. 😘
Wow. So glad you are enjoying our videos. Morocco was amazing and we will return! Good luck with your trip planning. We have recent blogs on both Madeira Island and Tenerife. We loved both places and recommend if you can go to either of those great places as well. John and Bev retirementtravelers.com
Acquired....lol. Enjoyed the views and the history. Didn't know Captain Morgan's history. I bet your spanish is getting better with every passing day. Binge watching you guys today and loving your experiences.

Costco viejo … Sounds like a really old club store 😂
🤣 🤣 Are you sure you aren’t in the market for a case of Captain Morgan spiced rum!!!!
It's "Casco" not costco. The word "Casco", means a group of buildings.
@@Ep3tzYc I’m sorry, I was just making a bad joke!
Bev, you do the editing? That’s the worst part! 😫😫😫
It is the worst part, but hopefully we are getting better. 😃 John and Bev
