Sire Records marketing department made Madonna sold like a black artist & not putting her photo on the single cover. They used a collage of several images of the streets of downtown and suburban of New York with black children playing. Only with the release of the 1st album "MADONNA" (1983) that confusion vanished, as the case left no doubt about her ethnicity. Madonna received a $ 5,000 advance on this & another song, Burning Up which became her 1st music video. When she recorded the debut album, received another $ 10,000 in royalties for each song composed.

Yes but she originally recorded the demo in 1981, and then finally reworking the song a bit and recording the actual 1982 release in studio with a different synth keyboard and drum beat that differs from the demo version, it is also evident in this song in particular ,madonna here I'm everybody sounds very Disco like ,almost in Donna summer style doing a somewhat of a 70s Disco type style of song in the early to mid 80s when Disco was supposedly dead or out of style, and the dance club new wave ,punk rock ,pop style was more popular and what everyone evolved into ,and had stopped listening or dancing to Disco type sounding songs. So it makes sense although it was released and remixed in 1982, the original demo goes back to 1980, 1981, when the demo was made, and thinking bout it now , sure why not, it's definitely gonna sound a little mid to late 1970s Disco ,since knowing that the demo was made just at the mark of the ending of the Disco sucks Era and the end of the 1970s on with early 80s, a new decade of a different sound to dance music and the evolving from the late70s Disco period. Even her song Holiday sounds way 70s Disco even though it was released a little time later than everybody's release, I think it was released in 83 or 84 and by then even more so the whole Disco sound was definitely done abd over with and out of style. But I give madonna credit for still making a Disco sounding type song sound reverent and cool again to listen to and dance to, and obviously those 2 songs Everybody and Holiday ,really sound like they never wanted to leave the 70s Disco era,, and amazingly those songs were hits at the time when disco was out and dead ,and a thing of the past, but madonna sure knew how to make Disco cool again
