love this dudes videos lol. Its like, come hang out with unc for 10 minutes while he explains how subwoofers work. Its like being in that class you actually liked in school haha
I’m glad I found these videos. I’m going to be replacing my 10W3’s and putting 8W7’s into my BMW and this information is amazing! I may be reaching out for a box design.
I can’t wait for part 4… Be expecting a phone call from JL by the end oft the summer . Trust me their going to want to show appreciation for the way you are teaching everyone about the technology on their flagship driver. Im certain 80% of consumers that own the w7 line are learning from watching this. Keep it up Boss
That’s the first thing I said to myself when he did that. You have to read that nice colorful but they send you before you do anything with that speaker
Super nice great job explaining it. Hard to believe how far ahead they were in 2002. Can’t believe in 22years they haven’t beat these W7’s. 22 years is for ever and nothing new. Which as much these cost if they release something better it would be $2500 so wouldn’t do me no good can’t afford these
I've owned a 10w7. Bought it new in like 2013. I was always impressed by it. But I had no idea of the lineage of the sub and history. Currently working on a new setup and another w7 is in store. I'm thinking a 12 this time.
I have a real good question. I wonder what they are doing at the triple joint? Bc I've never seen jl have a issue at the Triple.. I've seen them abused and burnt coil etc. But the triple is often a weak spot for others.
You know what over hung vs under hung coil is? So if you do have 25 xmax on an over hung coil with 19 of space between the spider and top plate you will still get 25 because the coil goes farther out and less in… The coil has to be 2.5 of wind height for this to happen. Also a large surround has to be able to take that much movement out. If not enough surround you will see dimples from coil rock.
Theres a guy in youtube that i cant remember his name with two of these in a car with a box tuned low doing hairtricks like he got some 15s....I hope u put them in the megacab with the signature mbe box to test them out!
Understood, but I didn’t think the SS2000 was cheaping out :) . Do you like sound digital 3000.1 evox2? It says 3000 damping factor . Same price as M2500
The Overoll is mostly marketing, and patentability. The Dayton UMII12-22, another high excursion design has... 2.7 percent less cone area than the 12W7. Compare published SD numbers, you don't get any audible difference from how JL does it. That said, I have a 12W7AE, and soon a second hand 10W7, so, not hatin'
I know they were bought out…. But these intellectual properties only make me think what JL has been working on in the past 20+ years and they have just been waiting until the right time to unleash the next “ahead of the curve” wave.
Cons of these subs. Low power handling/ not loud. Goofy impedance. Inferior/weak foam surround. Doing a recone is a bitch and proprietary parts are difficult to obtain so you’re probably going to ship to JL (high shipping cost and lead time). While these sub were cool and had a some of the best materials 20 years ago there are far better options in 2024
If you think the power handling and impedance are a con, you should probably look into an SPL oriented sub and not these sound quality units. I do agree about the surrounds and reconing problems, though. Still, they should last a nice long time before any of that is needed.
@@JasonWW2000 correct. My daily has 20kw and depending on mic location does high 150’s - low 160’s around 30hz… spl subs would be pointless unless I wanted to listen to tones in burps. I listen to music when I drive
@@cboyamgI think you misunderstood me. I said SPL oriented sub, not SPL only sub. I'm not referring to a competition or one note, burp type sub. I'm referring to the type of subs that MB has crowned as kings. The 2508, G7, etc... The ones that have a higher power handling and higher output. MB calls them SQL.
@@wilfredozabala5616I guess describing something as "better" is a matter of opinion as well as how much better it's believed to be. Cheaper isn't always better. I think you should get the most expensive you can afford and run it properly.

I appreciate that!
I wish they had classes like this in school. I wouldn’t miss a day 😂

JL says specifically not to pull the surround up could damage surround
That’s the first thing I said to myself when he did that. You have to read that nice colorful but they send you before you do anything with that speaker
Personally I have had several. I think I know how to handle the sub. But you shouldn’t do what I do. I could buy another no problem.

Watched your videos and got me a bass processor and i tell you man!!!!!! Isley bros are bumping!!!Thanks for the knowledge Big Bro.
That is awesome!
I absolutely cannot wait to see these in action in one of your boxes 📦
I understand that explanation better each time I hear it.
Makes sense to keep the cone size consistent throughout the stroke.
Cone area is KING!!!
Unc put the pinkies out when he handling that suit n tie!
😂
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
This is an excellent break down, keep up the good content💯👍

Love the insight…. Keep teaching brother
Very good can you talk about the 13w7 next
Nice Video 👍 great Sub 😮
Professor MB is in the house!

Take a shot everytime you hear "19mm of xmax in 2002"
😂
I’m ready to hear the demo in one of ur boxes now. ✊🏾✊🏾
The JL or the DD 2508
I just got schooled! And I liked it!

If Space is not an issue w6 10 or w7 8?

That was a lie. Guy is a charlatan
I wouldn't even take the wood off, I would seal it and slap it in front of the box, suite and tie huh MB?😂
Jlaudio4Life 👏🏽 👏🏽 👏🏽
SQ life 🙏
@M.B.Enclosures What are you thoughts on the DD SS2000 compared to the M2000/M2500. Is it worth it or save to get M series?
What subs are you running?
There is a difference..I don’t t cheap out when it come to my sound
Understood, but I didn’t think the SS2000 was cheaping out :) . Do you like sound digital 3000.1 evox2? It says 3000 damping factor . Same price as M2500
So if this had the best SQ, why do you prefer the DD?
Because I want SQL ..emphasis on loud

Exactly
Sir MBE .. yes lawd
💯
Please don’t fold the surround like that. JL tells you to never to do that. Pull the surrounding inwards to get to the mounting screws.
Wait till they drop a w8 on us

Better and cheaper options these days. I think the b2s are better in value/sq/output. Nor pesky foam issues as youve stated
