  • The restoration of a 207 Sqn Lancaster bomb release hook.
    This bomb release mechanism fits in the central bomb bay point and carries the 4000lb cookie bomb. This particular item was recovered from a crash site, restored by the Centre and is now fitted to the bomb bay of Avro Lancaster NX611 'Just Jane' at the Centre.
    This video shows the first time we put power to the system to see if it would work!

    I've heard they used one of these on the b-29 Superfortress 'Enola Gay' and 'Bockscar' the same b-29s that dropped the atomic bombs dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki were also equipped with a single suspension lug meaning that they were unable to put them on normal bomb shackles which had hooks for double suspension lugs so they've used one of these instead
