I suspect this part you're holding is pure polystyrene. Without polybutadiene (as in HIPS, ABS) it's completely clear and quite brittle, not very durable at all, and decays with time too.
I actually never cared whether there would be a practical use for a 3D printer when i bought one, and society shouldn't either. It helps me improve my engineering skills and provides a very complex and engaging hobby and that's all the justification i needed to spend 150€. The fact that you can go from something that you imagined, designed on your screen, to then an item you can hold, all on your own by your own effort at your home, is magical, and nobody should be denied that experience. That it ties well into a million other hobbies that people do, or can occasionally spit out something i need in my household, and isn't any more dangerous than any of the tools people already have at home is merely a bonus. And the planet? It will be fine if we could just all stop driving, small items printed locally or mailed don't really figure much into this, plus you don't have even close to 100% design/print success rate, do you. Here you're holding an item that worked on first try, but where are your other attempts at designing other items that didn't?
A home 3D printer is going to be a driving force for innovation and potentially engineering breakthroughs, and for self-improvement for so many people, kids, young people. This is why we need them. Not because of some blinder clip.

Legislators should request provider to make the stl files of wearable / fragile parts. It is a money / time / ecology saver
LOL, I had the same issue where I broke my valance clip. 10 min in Fusion and 10 min printing solve that issue. There so many parts like that in the real world. I fix a microwave button for a friend by modeling and printing it out. Before I buy any spare parts, I ask my self, can I just print this. That also includes screws and fasteners that don't have have much load on them.
They don't want us to make anything so we are beholden to others to make stuff. This is all this is a scare tactic so they can take the printers away not so we don't make gun, so we don't make all the other useful stuff. Lets face it I don't need much from the hardware store aside from screws and odd tool purchase. I can make everything on my own, including those stupid shelf brackets they sell, I can make them myself with the filament of choice in the color I want and it the shape I need it.
Fact of the matter is they don't care about waste, they don't care about freedom. They care about Money! So a company buys a congressmen, congressmen can't just come out and ban in as it looks too obvious, so they hatch a plan. They talk about a boogie man, get the soccer moms on board " oh my child my child " now you have them voting in favor of the scam they hatched very simple easy as that. You and I the creative ones are shit out of luck, but that matters none.
Next up, prices double while the soccer moms running down the isles screaming " my child my child "
what are you going to do with a 3d printer? give sight to blind children. destroy the eyewear business. create spectrophotometers and scientfic equipment. create low cost herb grinders, and measuring devices and tools for professionals and hobbyists alike. create renewable energy. possibilities for improving someones life are endless, this is owning the means of production, and better than what Karl Marx could have imagined.
