I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the 'true event' that inspired this movie was the writer got a knock on his door one night, the person asked for someone who didn't live there, he told her she had the wrong house, and she left. That's about it.

You can be called a professional in a field as long as you have basically 1+ year(s) of formal study or a degree. Especially in the 'arts' (in quotes because a lot of people don't consider things like film making/directing or choreography to be art). The rules are very loose with the term. I have no formal training but because my English/English Comp. grades are so high and I understand what makes a decent film; ie: shot composition, 180 rules, 50/50, even dialogue, etc. I could take a really nice camera, write a script, and make a 'semi professionally filmed' student piece. And I've never taken a film class in my life.
+Jack Petry Yeah but a snuff film is literally not a perfessionally made film. It's a film that doesn't have a script because it's not scripted. It's a film where someone is being actually tortured and murdered on screen. People who would make that don't have their victims act because they're not actors, they're people they kidnapped.
I just love how the director said this movie doesn't have the traditional horror movie cliches, and then proceeds to put in EVERY LAST horror movie cliches in.

Same, and it's always a case of the nightmare is scarier than the movie itself. I get HORRIBLE nightmares that can mess me up for weeks on end, so avoiding anything labeled as scary, no matter how stupid it really is, is a must for me
I'm not trying to defend this movie but if it completely dark outside and there was just a guy in a suit standing in the road I would be shitting my pants
+Riley Simms Something like that happen to me when I was a kid. I was like 12, and my little brother and I were walking in this trailed woods behind our house. We lived out in the sticks, and crime didnt happen often, so kids wandering around at night, wasnt unusual. When we got to this clearing, there was this person with their face covered with a white cloth mask standing on the far side near some trees. When I saw him, i stopped walking.. and just stared. I called out "Hello?" and the person didnt say anything back. Im like.. "We are going home, now." My stupid little brother is like "Why are you scared? I bet its just some of our friends trying to scare us" and starts walking over! The person has an adult shape btw. He starts coming toward us slowly until I scream and grab my brother to run, and he backs off. To this day I wont forget that memory. So yeah, someone just standing there is scary as fuck.
+Riley Simms I usually don't like to apply that kind of logic to horror movies. It takes something especially freaky to make a movie scary, but in real life? Literally *everything* scares the crap out of us. Someone might say, "This movie about a big guy in a white mask stabbing teenagers isn't scary." But in real-life? There is not a single human being alive who would see a big Michael Myers-looking guy marching towards them with a knife and *not* completely soak their pants. Rabid dog? A movie about a rabid dog isn't scary, come on. In real-life? I'd be squealing like a schoolgirl if I saw a rabid dog. That's the thing. We already know going in that horror movies aren't real, so that's why they have to really try. But in real-life, we'd all crap ourselves silly at the mere sight of a knife-wielding maniac in a mask. So yeah, if there was a guy standing out in the road in the dark in front of my house? I'd be sufficiently bothered. In a movie? I fall asleep to that kind of boring crap.
Hey man, I just wanted to let you know how flat out amazing you are. Your tone is dryer than the Sahara, and yet you still attain a jocular and engaging demeanor for every video. Each review is great, and it is a little saddening to know that you don't have more subs. To me, you topple Nostalgia Critic. Please, never stop making videos. You've been endowed with such a great sense of humor, which reflects in all your work. I wish words could illustrate the degree of enjoyment I feel everytime I watch one of your videos, but they can't. You are so brilliant and so awesome! Thanks for being so resplendent in every way :D
Fun fact: the "true event" this was inspired by was one time when the writer was a kid, someone knocked on the door and asked if someone who didn't live there was home. That's it.
I never said it was the second movie in the series. The only thing the word "sequel" implies is that it isn't the first, and The Strangers 2: Electric Spookaloo certainly won't be the first or even second door-bang-jumpscare fest.
I can't disagree with anything Adam said in this video, yet it still had an effect on me because it happen to prey on one of my biggest fears which is the fact that this trio of psychopaths stalks and mutilates these people for no reason whatsoever, which is a terrifying concept, or as the movie puts it: "Why are you doing this to us?!" "....you were home..."
When I was in highschool my girlfriend said we had to go to the theater to see the scariest movie she had ever seen. It was Resident Evil. Great comedy.
+Hew Man I literally just watched this for the first time a little over a month ago, because I had heard good things about it. I couldn't believe how bland and cliche it was!
That bald guy interviewing the two main actors was either a huge, blithering, dolt who gets terrified at people just going 'BOO!' over and over, or a huge liar. NOBODY should've been any where near that scared. Or maybe he was trying to make them feel better for being in such a dumb movie...
Interviewers always lie. Would you get more answers from a person by saying "I loved your work, it really had an affect on me" or "This was the dumbest thing I have ever seen. Tell me about it?"
I find it so annoying when the cast of a film is praising it as if it's the best movie in the genre, especially when the movie is as shitty as this one. Who the fuck can't go home after watching this pile of cliches? It can even be considered comedy because most of the time you're like "nah, it can't happen again, there must be at least a tiny bit of creativity in this movie" and then it happens again, which is funny (exactly what you don't want in a fucking horror film). How can you be so calm when reviewing this crap.
SomeNerdYouDon'tKnow Yea but I mean that's like going on television and saying that the moon is a grey porno DVD inhabited by dinosaurs. Fucking ridiculous.
I don't know why people bother watching these cast interviews, I find them...cringy...for the lack of a better word. I just feel weird watching the actor talk about the movie when I know both them and the interviewer are going to praise it no matter what (the first for being bound by contract and the latter because otherwise he won't be allowed future interviews by the studio), and even when the movie is actually good it still doesn't add any interesting information, it's the same generic questions every time.
getting kinda sick of seeing interviewers kissing ass to the actors acting like these movies were good " oh my god this movie was soooo scary i couldnt handle" while every normal person is like :/
Honestly, I just want one of those guys to just go "a lot of people, myself included, think this movie is terrible. What's your honest opinion about it?" It'd never happen, and it'd be kind of a dick move to put the actors in that position, but how awesome would that be?
I find it kinda sad every time I see these actors talk about certain elements in the movie being great when they weren't. I can't tell if they're completely oblivious to the movie's flaws or if they are just being paid extra for saying everything about the movie is great.
Doing promos is sadly just a part of the industry. Sometimes studios spend ridiculous amounts of money on shit movies, and an actor saying just how shit the movie is would hurt their chances of recouping their investment. It's kind of a job security thing for the actors.
+Mad Yak Also, studios wouldn't hire an actor if that actor has a history of bad-mouthing a movie they worked on. Not to mention there's usually a line in their contracts that forbids them from speaking negatively about a movie before it's release.
SPOILER ALERT Actually someone seems to survive at the end of this idiocy. Of course, it's the girl, as clichè would want, despite her being the worst character in the movie.
If there is a sequel can it be the surviving woman stalking the strangers or maybe the family is stocking another family and the survivor from the first one comes into the scene wearing the little girl's mask. She could stalk the strangers and kill them for revenge. To be honest the idea for a sequel isn't bad if they go with that kind of motive and it would be funny to see both the original characters and the lady out for revenge stalking each other.
Pizza Shark I'm pretty sure she's contractually obligated to promote this movie, whether it's shitty or not and she has to come up with something, even if it sounds vapid and empty
This movie scared me for like, a minute when I saw it. Then I realized my ass would be safe because I never answer the door late at night/for people I don't know, so they wouldn't know I was home.
"I can't use this thing, I don't even know how to load it." Jesus Christ it's a shotgun not a particle cannon, it's literally one of the easiest firearms in existence to use.
What the fuck? Who called this a snuff film? What because people (eventually) get killed in it? It would be more accurate to call the Saw sequels snuff films.
lasoogneypubes wait but at the end the womans clearly not dead so wtf??? she saw the 3 faces so she could easily get them arrested their is evidence and the ending is so stupid...im getting cancer just thinking about it...
+lasoogneypubes Exactly, though the Saw films wouldn't be snuff films either, they are at least better examples. Technically, something is only considered a snuff film if it is made with the intent to make a profit (so like a porn video), it also generally involves the torture/rape/whatever the hell else of the person in the video. This movie had basically none of that, Saw at least had some. Only film I can really think of that could be called a snuff film is A Serbian Film. That's mainly because the plot of that movie is the main character is secretly hired to be the star in a snuff film. That's a pretty fucked up movie btw but it wasn't necessarily a bad movie.
It is a Snuff film if it depict a a real murder, with the real death of the comedian. The Serbian film would be a movie about snuff movies. Like the one with that Canadian killing a boy on camera.
sidney boesch Well I meant A Serbian Film depicts it, course it wasn't real. Was that last bit a reference to Luke Magnotta at all? Seems like it might have been.
My candy bar wrapper just started moving on it's own. Thankfully this film wasn't the least bit scary. Otherwise, I would've needed a new pair of pants right now.

Just watched "The Purge" and wanted to see if you have done a YMS review on it. I felt the same way about "The Purge" as I did with this one. So stupid.
Lol, thanks. Yeah, I knew it was gonna be bad. Friends said it was, but it was free so figured I might as well see why it sucks. Can't hate something unless you understand why. Certainly wasn't the worst movie I've seen, not enough to justify not finishing it, but it was beyond stupid with the whole premise. Right off the bat I was telling my friend watching it with me it doesn't make sense. How the government would come to that and no one would stop it. It's logic is that it's the one day for everyone to let out all their rage and it somehow lowered crime. Criminals don't obey laws, most crimes/murders are done in the heat of the moment, there's no controlling that. You wouldn't have criminals saying, oh ok, I'm gonna stop breaking the law because the government is gonna reward me with criminal's Christmas. If I was a good little criminal and didn't break the law all year I get to have all night to do whatever I wanted. Sorry, yeah, now that I'm talking about it it's pissing me off again.
The thing is that everybody knows The Purge is bad. But people actually tried to pretend The Strangers was a good movie. It made top X of X lists, etc. I've heard people compare it to Ils! Fucking Ils. Seriously.
ParaVet I actually thought the premise for The Purge was cool. While entirely stupid, it was at least original and gave a lot of opportunity for what they could of done with it. The reason I was completely let down by it is because they took a promising premise and made it into a mediocre as shit home invasion movie.
"The audience thought it was a snuff film." NO THEY DIDN'T! No they fucking didn't! This isn't even like 'Blair Witch' or 'Paranormal Activity' where it's a movie, but you could see how someone stupid enough could believe it was real footage. No, it's not even that. NO ONE mistook what is clearly a movie for anything other than a movie. I heard this was 'inspired by' a true story and that always makes me think 'not really a true story' but this was so far removed from reality it made me angry. At the time this movie was released, if you tried to look up the 'true story', what you got was movie propaganda and a whole fake mythology about the 'true story' it was based off of. The actual 'true story' is so completely underwhelming that it's actually kind of amazing they could spin it into a full movie. It's like if I make a whole movie out of the time my banana sticker tore in half once.

I guess Dennis also brings girls out to that cabin. That way they won't say "no". Because of the implication.
awesome refere
+Pro4dayz is pro nce
+Rabid Rabbit Rabbi "Ahh there's nowhere for me to run what am I going to do, say no?"
Mike this comment needs more likes
Mike the sequel should've had Danny Devito be the friend who comes in to get friendly fired, just so he can say "IM GUNNA WHIP DIS BITCH IN THE FACE!"
They break the rules of conventional horror by not being horror at all.
To be fair, most horror already does that.
probablynotsatanic66 That's why I don't think the horror genre really exists outside of niche indie movies.
I don't watch horror movies because no matter how stupid, irrational and not scary they are, I ALWAYS get nightmares.
Same, and it's always a case of the nightmare is scarier than the movie itself. I get HORRIBLE nightmares that can mess me up for weeks on end, so avoiding anything labeled as scary, no matter how stupid it really is, is a must for me
Lucky you. I wish I could have as many nightmares as the amount of horror I watch.
Trust me, it's not the scary but fun kind of fright. It's the HOLY SHIT I DON'T EVER WANT TO HAVE THIS SHIT AGAIN.
I befriend my nightmares and feed them chocolate bars. Then I use them as a nightmare jammer.
Genius
The “true story” premise is literally derived from a story about someone knocking on someone’s door to see if they’re home so they can rob them.
The actress seemed like she chugged a bottle of Tylenol PM before the interview
Liv Tyler is like that in everything
OckhamAsylum This is a very good point.
+Riley Simms I wouldn't you know why? I WOULD BE THE ONE STANDING THERE!! Muha haha haa!!
Pete Crusher Oh but I shall magically disappear from sight despite not having supernatural powers.
My God, how high was Liv Tyler in that interview?
That's what I think ever time I see her act.
Lol but that's just how she sounds. She's like that in the LotR behind the scenes too and that was 15 years ago
Stephen Carroll lol I don't think I've ever seen her sober
High as a kite
I was gonna say just that! Like, Christ, she sounds more stoned than a hippie at Woodstock.
Dear Lord where do you get all these cringey interviews from
I've seen jpeg's scarier than this whole movie

+Jimmy Ludwikoski I keep seeing you ;-;

they killed him, you know, because of the implication
don't worry,he's dreaming of Jackie denardo now.
Omg, that girl in the interview didn't even say anything. She was just avoiding the questions and going in circles.
Like Miss South Carolina
I'd give her the benefit of the doubt and just say there was no content she COULD fill the answer with. It was an empty movie.
It's really the interview where I believe actors show their true talents. I mean her dodging the questions was better acting than the movie itself.
Ironically her dad is Steven Tyler lols
Lgg130 i don't remember i wrote that 23 weeks ago lols how can i remember
Same.

Who the fuck replies to a comment just to say "yeah" or "k". Annoying dickholes, that's who.
MrPartySack lol it's OK. This guy has gone too far into ignorance and pretentiousness that not even Cool Cat can save him (rip Daddy Derek)
Matt Smith He's with Daddy Derek now.
Fun fact: the "true event" this was inspired by was one time when the writer was a kid, someone knocked on the door and asked if someone who didn't live there was home. That's it.
I love the o my god there's a bang at the door laughed every time...
Apparently the sequel's supposed to come out December 2, so get hype for Banging at the Door: The *Jumpscare Noise*-quel.
oh my god theres a bang at the door
+Person Man Except now there's two bangings at the door **M. Night Shyamalan intensifies**
BANGING AT THE DOOR!!! HIDE!!! ITS THE JAHOVAS WITNESSES!!
I never said it was the second movie in the series. The only thing the word "sequel" implies is that it isn't the first, and The Strangers 2: Electric Spookaloo certainly won't be the first or even second door-bang-jumpscare fest.
Oh god there's gonna be a sequel? Ugggggggggggggggg :(
I can't disagree with anything Adam said in this video, yet it still had an effect on me because it happen to prey on one of my biggest fears which is the fact that this trio of psychopaths stalks and mutilates these people for no reason whatsoever, which is a terrifying concept, or as the movie puts it:
"Why are you doing this to us?!"
"....you were home..."
Japeth321 Plot twist: they're both actually Tamara and that's why they were killed. For being lying cunts.
Xenopuppy Movies
Who's Tamara?
Taluna E. When the killer asks if someone’s in the house, she asks if Tamara’s in.
Xenopuppy Movies
Oh, thanks. Guess I didn't notice that part.
Japeth321 That is a weirdly specific fear.
My favourite review title for this movie on IMBD has got to be: "Almost less boring than staring at a blank wall..."
Liv Tyler's voice annoys the hell outta me
Really? I could go to sleep with it
+DomnoSaur Yeah she should do ASMR.
she sounds like she's got an eternally dry throat
She sounds like the typical dumb hot chick that gets emotional way too easy with everything
I wish an angel whispered in my ear like that... again some day :'(
I need you to use "oh man it's a bang at the door" more often. I unironically snerked at it every time.
I'm glad you take all the extra effort to show interviews and how much crap the people involved are making up about the movie.
My friend showed me this film saying it was one of the scariest things he's ever seen and I laughed the whole way through it was so shitty
I bet your face looked like your profile pic
+Nadir Lebza and I say said
When I was in highschool my girlfriend said we had to go to the theater to see the scariest movie she had ever seen.
It was Resident Evil. Great comedy.
My older brother did the same thing to me. I've been bullshitting him about finding it as good as he does.
+Hew Man
I literally just watched this for the first time a little over a month ago, because I had heard good things about it. I couldn't believe how bland and cliche it was!
most of the comments are "Oh my god there's a bang at the door."
I think the only time I liked the 'inspired by true events' thing was in Fargo.
I wonder if the real killers see this and are like "This is so inaccurate."
What if the guy doing the review is the killer, and he's criticizing the video so much because it's inaccurate
M. Night Shyamalan wishes he had come up with that twist.
It's called advertising.
The way the actors were looking at him was like "Are you fucking kidding me?". I think they even knew the movie wasn't that scary.
AnEpilepticsVlog Acting is a business first. They all knew it was bullshit.
Joe Jr. makes sense
fucking lost it at "Detroit, Bitch"
The trollface paired with the distorted static-y audio aged significantly different 10 years later
How can you be so calm when reviewing this crap.
money.
SomeNerdYouDon'tKnow Yea but I mean that's like going on television and saying that the moon is a grey porno DVD inhabited by dinosaurs. Fucking ridiculous.
Dramawind If you're honest you could end up blacklisted and unable to find many roles
That's kinda their job. It's act in a movie, and promote it to get paid
getting kinda sick of seeing interviewers kissing ass to the actors acting like these movies were good
" oh my god this movie was soooo scary i couldnt handle"
while every normal person is like :/
luv u, gecko
Oh hi Gecko, fancy seeing you here ^_^
Honestly, I just want one of those guys to just go "a lot of people, myself included, think this movie is terrible.
It's possible. It;s kinda sad, because then there's nothing good to say at all. At the same time, the actors wont just say, "Eh, that part's okay".
Doing promos is sadly just a part of the industry. Sometimes studios spend ridiculous amounts of money on shit movies, and an actor saying just how shit the movie is would hurt their chances of recouping their investment. It's kind of a job security thing for the actors.
Alexander Freeman That's pretty lame, but it makes sense. Nobody would go see a movie when the actors tell you how bad it is.
+Mad Yak Also, studios wouldn't hire an actor if that actor has a history of bad-mouthing a movie they worked on. Not to mention there's usually a line in their contracts that forbids them from speaking negatively about a movie before it's release.
Jason I seriously feel bad for them.
SPOILER ALERT
Actually someone seems to survive at the end of this idiocy.
Of course, it's the girl, as clichè would want, despite her being the worst character in the movie.
+Gregory House The virgin always survives OOOOOOOOOOOOOH!
+skulldoxbox2 I'd watch that
+Gregory House The worst character of all two characters in the movie.
Not that I'm disagreeing with you.
MelancholyRose Three.
10 years later and "OH MY GOD THERES A BANG AT THE DOOR" is still funny
After watching this review I always say "omg there's a bang at the door." whenever there's some type of loud bang in a horror film.
THERE'S A BANG AT THE DOOR
OH MY GOD!
"Our time on this earth is short, you know?"
Yeah, so remember kids, don't waste it watching the sequel.

I wonder if Liv Tyler thinks about what she's going to say before she says it.
Samuel Gray She thinks very carefully. She says exactly what she has to say in order to get a raise.
+Samuel Gray She thinks very carefully. The problem is that it yields nothing.
Pizza Shark I'm pretty sure she's contractually obligated to promote this movie, whether it's shitty or not and she has to come up with something, even if it sounds vapid and empty
Had a great laugh every time you put the "There's a knock at the door" bit in.
This movie scared me for like, a minute when I saw it. Then I realized my ass would be safe because I never answer the door late at night/for people I don't know, so they wouldn't know I was home.
I can’t believe Adam didn’t mention the Bluebell Ice Cream that was in the background of almost every shot in the first half of the movie
What video was the "There's a bang at the door." from?
"I can't use this thing, I don't even know how to load it."
Jesus Christ it's a shotgun not a particle cannon, it's literally one of the easiest firearms in existence to use.
TBH I imagine I'd be in a similar situation as the protagonist.

I wouldn’t be able to use it. I’ve never even seen a gun irl. Let alone being able to use one.
+razkable As you can see after the film in the promotional interview she is dead inside so it's kinda the same I guess...
I know this is an old review, but this movie came on a few nights ago and all I could think was “Oh my God there’s a bang at the door”
"Oh the higher being that I worship, there is a loud knocking sound at the wooden entrance of my home!"
My candy bar wrapper just started moving on it's own. Thankfully this film wasn't the least bit scary. Otherwise, I would've needed a new pair of pants right now.
If there's anything good that came from this movie, it was this video.
whenever you show clips of the interviews i feel like they're just bullshitting some sort of answer for the questions
like you do on an essay for school
Biggest thing that irritates me about the cell phone trope is simply YOU DONT NEED ANY SIGNAL TO CALL 911. It's the one number you don't even need a phone network to be able to call.
I HAVE BEEN TRYING TO FIND THIS VIDEO FOR THE PAST 6 YEARS! God bless you, YMS
Liv is such a monotonous person
Just watched "The Purge" and wanted to see if you have done a YMS review on it. I felt the same way about "The Purge" as I did with this one. So stupid.
You actually sat down and watched the whole thing? I applaud you.
The Purge had a great concept but I heard that the entire reason why everyone wanted to go see the movie was very small.
Oh my god! There's a bang at the door!
Wow. This video is 10 years old. That’s insane.
That interviewer was totally kissing their asses.
Passionwriter198 Maybe Liz offered to blow him if he went easy on them.
"The audience thought it was a snuff film."
NO THEY DIDN'T!
It's like if I make a whole movie out of the time my banana sticker tore in half once.
oh my god theres a banging at the door
