    I vaguely remember reading somewhere that the 'true event' that inspired this movie was the writer got a knock on his door one night, the person asked for someone who didn't live there, he told her she had the wrong house, and she left. That's about it.

      You can be called a professional in a field as long as you have basically 1+ year(s) of formal study or a degree. Especially in the 'arts' (in quotes because a lot of people don't consider things like film making/directing or choreography to be art). The rules are very loose with the term. I have no formal training but because my English/English Comp. grades are so high and I understand what makes a decent film; ie: shot composition, 180 rules, 50/50, even dialogue, etc. I could take a really nice camera, write a script, and make a 'semi professionally filmed' student piece. And I've never taken a film class in my life.

    • @martianmanfrommars8428
      @martianmanfrommars8428 7 років тому +76

      +Jack Petry
      Yeah but a snuff film is literally not a perfessionally made film. It's a film that doesn't have a script because it's not scripted. It's a film where someone is being actually tortured and murdered on screen. People who would make that don't have their victims act because they're not actors, they're people they kidnapped.

      It wouldn’t have made the movie much less cliche for its genre (though part of that might be amplified by how insufferable the writer/director and actors were in their interviews), but yeah, that simple, intuitive change would have helped a _lot._ Not only does it make a hell of a lot more sense, it also makes the killers’ motivation clear and frightening instead of stupid and unclear.

    • @devilak74
      @devilak74 3 роки тому +6

      I mean I guess the artsy bs point the writer is trying to push here is that they didn't take all those opportunities to kill the. Cause they couldn't push themselves to actually do it. For whatever reason they couldn't bring themselves to actually kill them till the end. I mean its a really poor justification cause it looks like they're trolling them instead of trying to work up the courage to kill them but I never undated artsy movies anyway.

      Dont worry there are others who enjoy cinematography. The channel of RedLetter Media is a prime example of this since they gave those recent hobbit movies a pass for the film-making involved despite the story being almost mind numbingly boring. I also do know a film buff who has a hard-on for the amount of camera work they put into films just as much as you would most likely so you are not alone. Just pointing out that the vast majority of people do not go to movies to be impressed at how the film looks like, but more of the substance that is being portrayed in the movie hence why Adam Sandler is still a cash cow despite the atrocity that was Jack and Jill.

      +Riley Simms Something like that happen to me when I was a kid. I was like 12, and my little brother and I were walking in this trailed woods behind our house. We lived out in the sticks, and crime didnt happen often, so kids wandering around at night, wasnt unusual.
      When we got to this clearing, there was this person with their face covered with a white cloth mask standing on the far side near some trees. When I saw him, i stopped walking.. and just stared. I called out "Hello?" and the person didnt say anything back. Im like.. "We are going home, now." My stupid little brother is like "Why are you scared? I bet its just some of our friends trying to scare us" and starts walking over! The person has an adult shape btw. He starts coming toward us slowly until I scream and grab my brother to run, and he backs off.
      To this day I wont forget that memory. So yeah, someone just standing there is scary as fuck.

    • @OckhamAsylum
      @OckhamAsylum 8 років тому +256

      +Riley Simms I usually don't like to apply that kind of logic to horror movies. It takes something especially freaky to make a movie scary, but in real life? Literally *everything* scares the crap out of us. Someone might say, "This movie about a big guy in a white mask stabbing teenagers isn't scary." But in real-life? There is not a single human being alive who would see a big Michael Myers-looking guy marching towards them with a knife and *not* completely soak their pants. Rabid dog? A movie about a rabid dog isn't scary, come on. In real-life? I'd be squealing like a schoolgirl if I saw a rabid dog.
      That's the thing. We already know going in that horror movies aren't real, so that's why they have to really try. But in real-life, we'd all crap ourselves silly at the mere sight of a knife-wielding maniac in a mask. So yeah, if there was a guy standing out in the road in the dark in front of my house? I'd be sufficiently bothered. In a movie? I fall asleep to that kind of boring crap.

      Doing promos is sadly just a part of the industry. Sometimes studios spend ridiculous amounts of money on shit movies, and an actor saying just how shit the movie is would hurt their chances of recouping their investment. It's kind of a job security thing for the actors.

    What the fuck? Who called this a snuff film? What because people (eventually) get killed in it? It would be more accurate to call the Saw sequels snuff films.

      @Iceman96051 9 років тому

      +lasoogneypubes Exactly, though the Saw films wouldn't be snuff films either, they are at least better examples. Technically, something is only considered a snuff film if it is made with the intent to make a profit (so like a porn video), it also generally involves the torture/rape/whatever the hell else of the person in the video. This movie had basically none of that, Saw at least had some. Only film I can really think of that could be called a snuff film is A Serbian Film. That's mainly because the plot of that movie is the main character is secretly hired to be the star in a snuff film. That's a pretty fucked up movie btw but it wasn't necessarily a bad movie.

    • @chalibard3826
      @chalibard3826 9 років тому +2

      It is a Snuff film if it depict a a real murder, with the real death of the comedian. The Serbian film would be a movie about snuff movies. Like the one with that Canadian killing a boy on camera.

    • @Iceman96051
      @Iceman96051 9 років тому +1

      Lol, thanks. Yeah, I knew it was gonna be bad. Friends said it was, but it was free so figured I might as well see why it sucks. Can't hate something unless you understand why. Certainly wasn't the worst movie I've seen, not enough to justify not finishing it, but it was beyond stupid with the whole premise. Right off the bat I was telling my friend watching it with me it doesn't make sense. How the government would come to that and no one would stop it. It's logic is that it's the one day for everyone to let out all their rage and it somehow lowered crime. Criminals don't obey laws, most crimes/murders are done in the heat of the moment, there's no controlling that. You wouldn't have criminals saying, oh ok, I'm gonna stop breaking the law because the government is gonna reward me with criminal's Christmas. If I was a good little criminal and didn't break the law all year I get to have all night to do whatever I wanted. Sorry, yeah, now that I'm talking about it it's pissing me off again.

      ParaVet I actually thought the premise for The Purge was cool. While entirely stupid, it was at least original and gave a lot of opportunity for what they could of done with it. The reason I was completely let down by it is because they took a promising premise and made it into a mediocre as shit home invasion movie.

    "The audience thought it was a snuff film."
    NO THEY DIDN'T! No they fucking didn't!
    This isn't even like 'Blair Witch' or 'Paranormal Activity' where it's a movie, but you could see how someone stupid enough could believe it was real footage. No, it's not even that. NO ONE mistook what is clearly a movie for anything other than a movie.
    I heard this was 'inspired by' a true story and that always makes me think 'not really a true story' but this was so far removed from reality it made me angry. At the time this movie was released, if you tried to look up the 'true story', what you got was movie propaganda and a whole fake mythology about the 'true story' it was based off of. The actual 'true story' is so completely underwhelming that it's actually kind of amazing they could spin it into a full movie. It's like if I make a whole movie out of the time my banana sticker tore in half once.
