I've done this mod, but to get better "flow" I removed the "air valves" that come with the air tanks. If you remove one, you'll see how small the "air passage" hole is, it way smaller than the air hose fittings .....

That’s a good idea. I’ll have to try that. Does a regular 1/4 fitting screw in?

no, you need to pick-up a reducing bushing, available wherever air fittings are sold. Then you can screw-in a tee fitting or whatever you like. Many UA-cam videos on this subject. @@atlasautomotivecare

“Available wherever fitting are sold…” bahahahah. Sounding like a commercial 😂. Thanks for the info. Cheers mate.

I had that same compressor. I bought a really nice Rol-Air and took the motor off the Fortress and set my new compressor on top, using the Fortress as an expansion tank with wheels and a handle!

I have a similar setup using 2 of the steel 11 gallon HF tanks in parallel with my 30 gallon Dewalt compressor to get over 50 gallons storage capacity. It really helps with HVLP guns, impacts and even short sandblasting sessions. Do yourself a favor and remove the entire regulator/gauge assembly from both tanks. Since you don't need them to be portable just put a single high flow air chuck fitting directly on each tank's outlet and call it good. From there run a hose from each tank to your compressor through a large "T" fitting. Those tanks will easily hold as much as your compressor tank all day long... mine routinely stay filled at 150 psi and burst strength of those tanks is well in excess of 200 psi (don't ask how I know). If you need to disconnect one for any reason just pop the hose out the air chuck and you can walk away with 150 psi in your hand. You also won't have flow restrictions from the tiny factory regulator assembly. This way, you only have to look at the one gauge on your compressor to know the status of all 3 tanks in your setup... and you can always add a regulator in-line after the fact if you need to reduce the pressure for air tools.

Great detailed information. Maybe I should make an update video!!

How do you drain the moisture out of those tanks though? I'm kind of new to compressors but I know you're supposed to drain the moisture out of them everyday. At least that's what I was told and I don't see a drain valve on any of those portable tanks. Thanks!

It’s built into the valve on the top. Here’s a link to the Harbor Freight manual. Look at pages 5 and 6.

I must be missing something here, but have watched video 3 times. My question is; I see how your filling the added tanks directly from the compressor, but how are you getting the air out of those tanks?

Hello there. There are essentially three outlets on this compressor, two quick disconnects and the one hole that was plugged (where the auxiliary tanks are now connected). I’m using the factory output quick connections on the air compressor itself for air output.

To much work just buy a bigger tank or setup

While that is a great idea for most applications, it’s not always the best option. For example this system was mounted in my mobile work truck where a larger compressor wasn’t possible. However, several smaller tanks could be mounted under the deck.

Those tanks are rated for at least 50% safety.
150 working is 300 before expansion
