    Very, very true point you made about basing up a model which is not quite done. It really is amazing how it goes from "this guy is looking pretty good" to "okay wow, he is basically done actually...!"
    The past few minis I've painted I had gotten them neatly base coated, washed, and even re-layered, plus adding a necessary effect or two. Then still realizing I have many shades of highlights to apply, I impatiently decide to base him up proper, and all of a sudden I realize I probably don't need to go much further for this 5 point chaff model after all...
    Cheers mate

      Agreed, man - I also find that actually setting the model down and viewing it from "tabletop distance", rather than my usual 30cm painting range frequently persuades me that it's more than good enough 😂

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  3 місяці тому +2

      Yes - while I say I'll be giving these models a highlight pass, the truth is I'll probably never get around to it, and the fact they are missing that extra level of detail made absolutely no difference to our enjoyment of the game AT ALL!

    I caved and bought it, justifying it as last week's birthday present to myself. I ran out of Grey Seer spray halfway through the Stormcasts (and gotta touch up some skaven from angles I apparently missed), and had a damaged sprue (the Terminos/Knight-Questor/Reclusians one, long pegs broken off and such), which is supposedly being replaced.
    But damn me, I've been having so much fun with building and painting the Skaven! I decided to get more experimental with them than I usually allow myself to be.
    I started with a Rat Ogre, painting his skin and fur.... in Naggaroth Night, so solid dark purple. I went up through Barak-Nar Burgundy, to Screamer Pink and Pink Horror for the skin and now find myself needing an additional light/pastel pink since the jump to skin tones would be too extreme. The fur went up to softer purples and purple-ish greys/off-whites... and I'm loving that look for the big guy and my prototype clanrat. It's a very weird, chaotic look (paired with dark blue armor bits and that bright green warpstone detailing) and I'm absolutely glad I didn't go with one of the default color schemes for a change.
    And yes, I totally painted the Clawlord's base separately... and first. That's one of the models I want to give another bit of spray primer from below.
    I'd absolutely recommend the recent Contrast Striking Scorpion Green for the Warpstone stuff. It's excellent both in coverage and glowiness, even on Grey Seer instead of actual white primer!

    I'm interested to see how the spearhead rules are so I'll definitely check back for that battle report. Thanks Peter.

      Lifelong GW skeptic / critic here, and I can honestly say Spearhead was much better than I expected. Enough to buy into the system myself with my very limited hobby budget? No. 😂 ... but definitely enough to start giving giving GW a little more benefit of the doubt in the future.

    I'm very curious to see if they release a spearhead only box like the 40k ultimate starter set in the near future, it seems like a mucher better game mode than combat patrol from what I've heard.

      I'm sure the Fire and Jade book will be available separately, and then you'll have to buy the pack with the battlefield to get the cards I guess.

    Love the painting on the Stormcast! Is the silver just Leadbelcher? And what silver did you mix with the Retributor Armour to tone it down?

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  3 місяці тому +1

      I used a lighter silver for the base coat as they're 'heroic' - probably Runefang Steel. Probably the same for the gold mix. I don't worry about recipes and paint names, I just grab whatever feels right at the time!

    What primer color are you using? 16:20
    It seems very slightly off-white.
    I was myself planning to go grey and zenithal it with ivory and white, for speed paints, but I'm not sure

    • @EsotericOrderGamers
      @EsotericOrderGamers  2 місяці тому

      Must be the lighting - it's just Codex White spray. I don't find zenith painting worth the trouble, it's just covered up by the contrast paints in most cases anyway.

      @@Nazgull2k1 That's your job. I'll show you what you get in the box, you find out the price in your area and decide whether you wish to purchase it or not. The choice is yours. I certainly can't do anything about how they price their products, and GW isn't reading the comments on my videos.
