    Got one for my sister for her pawn-shop Marlin 270. It's a brilliant, cheap, honest scope that covers all typical hunting ranges. I personally used it last fall and in the deep woods the 2x was perfect. I'd say the low end is where this scope really shines. I could have both eyes open to get on target quickly. We didn't see any legal deer, but we were able to stalk several on the 3 day trip. Out on the range, the 7x is good out to the 300 yard targets, which is about the MPBR for a 270. This is not a target scope, but hunters will certainly find this optic useful.

      Informative comment. Thanks. One question, what makes you say that it’s not a target scope?

    I think 2-7 power might actually be perfect for a lot of uses. It was a good choice, but Vortex also has plenty of 1-6 and 1-8 power scopes in various budget ranges.

    The Crossfire is great, if that is all you can afford. However, I would save up the extra $100 and get the Vortex Diamondback series. Night and day difference. Same for Crossfire and Diamondback HD binoculars

    Scopes in general don’t have ‘clickable’ magnification rings, but they should be smooth, with enough resistance that they won’t move accidentally. Also the rear ring is the diopter adjustment, it focuses the reticule ( not the image ) once it’s set to your personal eyesight it shouldn’t need to be changed. These cheap scopes do not have adjustable focus, they’re normally optimised to be in focus at a certain distance ( say 100 yds )

      I've seen some clickable scopes that jump from 1, to 3, to 9. Those are generally tacticool/operator setups that come in camoflage and have good shock resistance.

    One drawback of the Crossfire II 3-9x40 is that I can't seem to find a honeycomb kill flash that fits. It seems the outer diameter of the threads is slightly smaller than a usual 40mm scope or something. I'd love to know if anyone has a link to a kill flash that fits!

    • @JamesWillmus
      @JamesWillmus 3 роки тому

      Perhaps you could get one 3D printed? Or maybe get a honeycomb insert for a slightly smaller diameter then make a spacer?

    I wouldnt use Vortex Crossfire on anything bigger than 308 win ,anything bellow and youl probably be fine.We broke 2 Vortex scopes,one on my 30-06 after 12 rounds and my friend broke one on his 7 rem mag after just 5 rounds.They are just not durable enough for higher recoiling rifles.I also noticed drastic change in POI after turning fast focus eyepiece.Vortex did not repair either of our scopes indicating that warranty does not applies to scopes that have external damages(our scopes only had couple of scratches from normal use,i guess that they dont want reanodize aluminum when putting repaired scopes back to market).I talked to one of retailers of Vortex scopes here in Europe and he told me that out of 49 that they sold they had 21 returned for repair.Thats my experience with Vortex and wouldnt recomment it.

      @FirearmsofAmerica  4 роки тому +9

      No discrimination taken lol I came as a refugee from post USSR country about 10 years ago. Back there we also had all of these good constitutional rights (freedom of speech, etc.), same as here in the US... all except one, the right to bear arms. As a result, none of them mattered, because there was no real way to defend against government tyranny. So, given a second chance in life with all the freedoms and opportunities, I wanted to do something to show people who are so against guns and for gun control laws here in US, from the perspective of the outsider, what it feels like to live in the country where you cannot defend yourself.
