Team Associated MT10 is what I think is the best rtr beginner truck. not to mention the fact that it seems to be indestructible. Just my opinion. Other than that, thanks for another honest opinion review, Mark. Keep up the good work.
I was just getting ready to say the same thing. He cannot say anything about team associated being they are a competitor to tekno. If you notice he won't review any of the race brands. He only does rtr stuff that doesn't have a race team. This is way u see mostly arrma taymia and traxxas on here amd repeats of the same danm truck over and over again. Go over to razor rc for a real review. He isn't a sponsored racer so he can give a non bias opinion/review
100% MT10. The base platform is the same brushed vs brushless, so you just need to swap electronics. The arrma mega needs another $65 of blx parts upgrades to make it the same as their 3s line. Arrma misleads customers saying it's "brushless ready". Maybe, but the mega gearing will not hold up. Sneaky money grab by arrma. It's actually $380-$390 all spent to upgrade. Much better just to go blx straight away or better yet, just get an MT10 😎
Hey bro I Just restarted the RC hobby again after all the kids moved out I pulled them out and started playing then I had to buy a granite and now I’m buying a black rock it’s addicting I am 58 and still love playing with RC cars love to watch a Videos bro thanks for being out there old guy Stormy
In the UK the Associated MT10 is the cheap go to first hobby RC very strong and mega performance. It is brushless also the MT8 is now available again brushless. They don't tend to put remote batteries as they do not know how long it could sit waiting to be sold and they would go bad, yeah I know this has a NICAD/ NIMAH main battery but they tend to be ok sitting for long periods.
Honestly I love the one I got my daughter. Had it almost 3 years and have only eaten one spur gear and is now needing new bearings. Shocks leak yes but she doesn’t care it just rips and she beats it all the time.
Even for a beginner I think brushless is the way to go it can be ran on a nimh battery, geared down, or slowed down with the remote and when a person is ready to go faster it's a free or inexpensive change vs having to buy a brushless combo or a whole new rc
It's always good to learn how to do it though, some models only come in brushed. Such as the proboat jet jam it only comes in brush but I wanted to convert into brushless so bad it was nice to learn how to do it.
@David C Andersen if you're servicing things like you should, changing gearing etc you'll have the motor out more than once, so I'll stick with what I said buy brushless it's easy to slow down and speed up, unless it's s budget issue no reason to buy brushed these days but that's just my personal opinion and preference
Brushed is the best beginner truck. Most people don't have self control to learn their RC. So by the time they learn their first RC especially if they start with a brushless, they have more than likely tore it up from it being more than they can handle. 30 mph more than fast enough for the first time drive, then upgrade later..
Traxxas Rally for a first time car I love that the wheels are inside the body helps keep stuff together when you are flipping during a crash only bad thing is I don't think that they come with a battery or charger
Good Review Mark. Tower Hobbies is running a sale right now and you can get the 4wd Granite for $175. Can’t beat that price. Brushless version (green) $290. A few other cars are on sale as well. Keep up the good reviews, really enjoy them!!
So my wife and daughter bought me the red and white version for my b-day and honestly speaking it was just like you said. At first it was really kool and fast for a beginner. The battery wasn't too bad once I got the 2s lipo battery with fast charger. After awhile I upgraded to the 3s version which didn't come with any batteries.
Honestly I love the 1/16 traxxas summits for a kids first vehicle. Brushless, 4wd, easy to work on and find parts, oh and the 50% throttle is awesome. Since they are fully upgradeable one car can have 4 levels of learning. My six year old runs hers a loanstar raceway on Tuesdays.
I was looking for someone to comment comparing the arrma granite 1/10 to the traxxas summit 1/16 for about the same price. I was already leaning towards the summit
I remember my first RC car was a 1/18 HBX and I thought that was fast. Next was a "1/10" Hosim and I thought that was fast. Then I bought my first Granite Mega v2 and I was blown away that something that big could move that quick. I got too ambitious and immediately bought a Big Rock and put in a 3S lipo in it and that scared me. It was way too uncontrollable for me at the time. So yes, the Mega is a great entry-level RC rig. I eventually upgraded my Mega complete brushless, 3S with steel spur, pinion, motor, drive train, etc the whole nine.
bought my son a Big Rock last year, put a 2s in it. (essentially the granite with a wider and longer wheel base. we love it. although the steering servo only lasted 3 runs. and I think I need to reprogram the esc because occasionally I lose all throttle control from dead. not a big deal for a 4 year old who plays with it 15 minutes at a time.
I bought the brushless Granite about two months ago for my first hobby grade RC and it's awesome. I do like that the spectrum radio has the 50% power switch on it. It gave me a chance to learn to drive it.
That’s the truth too imo . I’ve liked it since I’ve had it . 4s lp s make it land like a cream puff . Needs the wide kit and 17 mm hexes but yeah 👍. Wild and fast . 6s shocks and yer good to fly . Haven’t blown a diff in 30 or so packs but if so , metal
When your not going as fast it’s harder to break. Can’t believe they didn’t include the double A batteries though. I would say upgrade your charger like you said. Great platform to upgrade to Brushless though and easy to do.
Yea, my first big rc was a brushed senton, and it was amazing the first couple of times, but it quickly turned to, “I wish it was faster.” Within a month I had spent the cash to drop a brushless system in, and now, I pretty much only go brushless!
I have many traxxas rc's. I bought a Arrma Volcano brushless 4x4 for my son and it cogs really bad, so bad that is has no mid range power because you have to give it so much throttle to get it to move past the cogging.. also risk jump it hit landed on all 4 wheels and bent a axel shift. All in all will stick to traxxas for my bashing needs.
I'm waiting the 3s version to arrive right now. Found it on Amazon for on sale for 270 with 5 months no interest financing. The price has already gone up to 283 when I checked it today. Will be back up to 329 soon, hehe.
For a kids first rc. A Traxxas rustler xl5 has to be number 1. I went with the arrma voltage stadium truck takes 2s lipo brushed ESC 30+ mph with 21t supplied pinion and it's $99 bucks RTR
The hpi maverick quantum truck or truggy looks like the perfect entry level brushless choice. It comes brushed or brushless. For $269 I think its hard to beat.
I M a arrma man my self but our 3 step beginner and crap like that on the 3s models its on the controller it self witch if u ask me its much better then sitting there holding a button on the esc
This is a great truck. My son has it. He broke the stock servo.. I upgraded to brushless motor and ESC. And added a bigger pinion gear.. also a wheelie bar off the BLX model. The Truck is sick. Only problem after some 3s drifting on brushless we eventually burned out the rear diff. Or input gear.. I still have to take it apart and fix it. But this truck handles great and can take a beating. Ours can go about 50+ mph. With the brushless set up and bigger gear !
I use wipes too with scrubby they're great for rc . I have the fastest granite possible its a granite body on a truggify typhon with 2200 kv haha not really a granite I guess ,granite is a great truck I ran one everyday for over a year going through all the parts eventually. The chassis and one diff are original when they were 300 with tactic remote and blx system they're were the best you can buy for the money . Later the rival 10 came for a little more
I enjoyed the review and your honest assessment. I know very little about Arrma r/c cars. I did find out that Arrma sells a 1/10 2WD Granite Voltage and Horizon has for $129.99. It comes RTR and includes the charger and four AA's. The remote has the ability to turn down the sensitivity on the steering and throttle, which is great for new drivers. I wish Traxxas included those things on their basic remotes. Is it any good? I have no idea.Years ago the school I worked with tried the 2WD Arrma short course truck, the Fury, and we had issues with the motors.
The slipper might be a learning curve . Tighten it up , not super tight to crack stuff , back it off 1/8-1/4 turn and yer good fellas . If it’s wheelies like crazy might be too tight unless ya like it 😊
Off subject question but I'm thinking about getting into Tamiya. Do you have a recommendation. You've had alot of influence in my semi new hobby. So your advice would be appreciated. Thanks buddy
Hey Mark just wanted to touch base with you love the channel recently you did a review of a little container that holds all of your nuts and bolts neatly stored what was the name or the link for that company

Shout out to Gladiator Designs for designing that sledge 3d printed wing mount and Garage Life RC as the licensed seller of this mount. Looks good, guys!
It’s definitely not fast ,with a 2S lipo it tops out around 20 mph , I converted mine with a 3S spectrum motor/ esc combo with cooling fans , I’m getting 50 mph out of it with a 3S 5200mah battery , awesome truck! I would think by now Mark you converted yours , but I know you have a huge collection of R/C’s and decided to leave it stock !
To use a term you have said before: "You get what you pay for." Between the Bandit/2wd Slash and now this....I'm still going have to vote for Traxxas. Just my opinion. All of the Arma cars I've seen showcased just seem cheap to me. As for the price point for this this, it is a lower price, however Arma could have put a set of batteries for the radio and a decent charger. Great video dude!
I’ve owned both recently brand new and I can easily say the Granite out preforms the Bandit in almost every way. The granite being 4wd alone is enough for me to say it’s clearly a better beginner RC, let alone the durability.
Story you're absolutely right. These Arrmas are cheap for a reason. They cut corners where others don't to get the price lower. When they go on sale for $50 or $100 off, it's a little bit better value.
I think someone would be better off starting off with a 3S model. The controller comes with 50%, and 75% power settings a new user could practice with to get used to the speed. This might be ok for a kid but an adult or teenager would get tired of it quickly. Unless that's the goal getting them to spend more money on upgrades.
Team Associated MT10 is what I think is the best rtr beginner truck. not to mention the fact that it seems to be indestructible. Just my opinion.

just test drove one today. fast enough, durable, and battery gives great run time. Impressive.
For a couple bucks extra you can get a Stampede 4x4 kit, I just love Traxxas because of the dealer support near me

Nice it doesn’t have to be a high dollar RC to have fun I’m glad you took the time to review it. Just enough speed to get some airtime.
It really comes to life when you put it in lipo option on the esc
It's great to have as a borrow vehicle. That's what mine is for. I have no problem giving the control to any of the neighbors or there kids.
Bought one of these for my daughter. She's has done everything to it keeps going. Stick a 2s battery in it and it comes way more alive.
Traxxas Rally for a first time car I love that the wheels are inside the body helps keep stuff together when you are flipping during a crash only bad thing is I don't think that they come with a battery or charger

Awesome Tyson!! Great how everyone works together, especially in these times!!
Shout out to Gladiator Designs who created that mount design, and props to Tyson at Garage Life RC as the licensed printer/seller of this design.
My brushed 4x4 stampede came with bearings, the only bushings were in the bellcrank. I think their 2wd stuff has bushings instead of bearings though.
I’ve seen a few comments about the rival mt10, I think it’s time you take a look at one of those! 🤙 regardless thanks for another cool video

The Mega is solid but if you want the REALLY best entry level car you gotta take the 3s BLX

Should try putting some JC concept Renegades and Midwest rims on it makes that Granite look like a monster truck
Reckon how that one would compare to the brushless truck
This and a 4s outcast or Kraton and a Kraton 6s v5 or exb and yer good for a while to save for an xmaxx or XRT
For the price I still preferred this granite than 2wd traxxas. Perfect for my kids

Typhon or typhon tlr 100$ may be better if looking to send
