  • We already had one 190 watt GoPower solar panel on our 2020 Lance 1985 RV but we wanted to add a 2nd panel and double the potential watts. The GoPower system allows you to have up to 3 panels on the GoPower solar controller that we have. In this video, my brother in-law Darrin and I install an additional panel on the roof of the RV.

    I came across this video today. I like the way you get your info across.
    I have an Adventurer 910DB slide in truck camper that came with a 100w GP panel and 2 lead acid batteries. After 2 nights in 20 degree weather running the heater, we woke up the third morning to an absolutely freezing camper. Time for change.
    Took the single 100w panel off the roof and installed 3 GP 190w panels. Upgraded to two BB lithium batteries and we were good to go (with the battery box vents sealed and the camper heat running the box only got down to 42degrees while it was 16f outside). All this ran through the GP control panel and WPM controller.
    Zfffpptt… converter died. Instead of a direct replacement I further upgraded the system. Still the 3 GP 190w panels, cut the plastic battery box out and that gave a ton of room for my new Victron mppt charge controller, battery monitor shunt, Victron Lynx Distribution and appropriate busbars. Then I was able to put three LiTime mini 100ah batteries in there with room for a fourth if I want to later. A 3000w Victron Multiplus II was installed in another space within 4’ of the battery box.
    All ran perfectly for two weeks offgrid in Washington last month, even put out power through two days of foggy drizzle. Coffee in the morning with no generator noise.

    We have a 2014 Forest River Flagstaff travel trailer with 1200 watts of solar from Renogy and 5 100 ah Battle Born batteries. We have had no problem with them and usually end up with 90-95 percent power at bedtime. We might have gone overboard on power and capacity but it works for us.

    Patrick, I do have solar system on my small 2019 Geo Pro 12SRK RV. There is a 100 watt panel on the roof, installed at factory and I purchased a suitcase 90 watt system that plugs directly into my trailer that supplies 2 Lead acid deep cycle batteries. So between the 2 batteries I have 170 AH. The 2 solar panels give me 190 watts total and they are both GoPower systems. I don't have an air conditioner, just a Max-fan in the roof as I live in northern Canada, Alberta and during the night, heat is the more important concern. The trailer, as small as it is, has a 20k BTU furnace, way over kill but I'll take it, lol. I have had the trailer going into my 3rd summer and have had no issues with the GoPower system. Thanks for the video and stay safe.

    We have the same solar setup on our T@B 400 as you had on Carl. It's worked for us so far, but we don't get out nearly enough to test it! Our best test so far was last fall at the Finger Lakes when we stayed at a no hookup state park. We easily made it through 4 days with minimal conservation and partly cloudy days. I have a 2075 with Lion 105 AH batteries and two 190 panels. Even when it's mildly overcast it fully charged the batteries by 3:00 in the afternoon. And my trailer is between two homes so only getting full sun for 6 hours. I ran the fridge on 12 volt overnight and by the next evening the batteries were fully charged. The most important part. If you have a battery monitor make sure it is set up correctly

      Thank you for the info. Sorry that I don't know if your name is Boone or Lipsey or if that is a UA-cam handle, but I really appreciate your info. I am going to be a brand new newbie, so I need all the help I can get, and that is why I follow LoLoHo and KYD because they are a great source of information. AND good people like you help too. Bonus!!

      We were really happy with the 1 panel so 2 panels should be that much better. And we have found they will still get some power even on cloudy days. Hopefully your trailer will get to you sooner rather than later so you have more time to enjoy it this summer.

    Funny stuff, we have 560 amp hours of prismatic lithium iron 110 watts of solar on the roof and 800 watts on the ground. We can run our ac on the solar system. Can't make it over night.....need more amp hours

    Great Video. Question 🙋‍♂️ R Slide out topper worth the Money. Yes they keep leaves 🍃 and tree branches off the top of the slide. But do you still have to get up there on the roof and clean 🧽 off the Debra anyway. Bird 🦅 💩 🍃 and tree branches .What is your input and this would make a great 👍 video.

      We feel that they are absolutely worth the money. They help keep water off the slide roof preventing leaking issues. We bought a used trailer once that did not have a slide topper. We eventually found that water was leaking down from the slide roof and resulted in a portion of the slide floor being rotted.

    You might have said this in an earlier video, but where did you install the 2000 watt inverter? Picture?

      It's in the rear outdoor storage compartment where you access the water heater.

    Multiply the amps and volts so you know how many watts! If you get 19 amps and I presume you have a 12V system, then you are getting 228 Watts.

    We have a 1995 model with the single panel. Do you use solar just to keep your batteries charged, or do you have an inverter for 110V while boondocking? I only ask, because if your batteries were staying charged with just one panel, why add the second?

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  3 роки тому +1

      We have a 2000 watt inverter wired into the whole trailer so the 2nd panel will allow us to use that inverter more without worrying about the batteries.

    So, have you added any more solar panels since this video?

    I have Lance 2016 2295 with 1 solar panel (160 watt). I've been wanting to add a 2nd panel. At times the 1 panel is not capable of keeping the 2 batteries charged on a cloudy day.
    I'll show my boyfriend your video maybe he can learn to install a 2nd one. Should I install a 160 or a 190? No sure if I would go with a 3rd panel. I would love to but would have to see the cost.
    I enjoyed your video.

      Is your 160 watt panel a GoPower Panel? I know the current kits are 190 watts. The more power the better. We have already noticed that the 2 panels is doing a better job of keeping the batteries fully topped off.

    • @barbwire65

      The panel that I already have is the 160 watt was install from the factory. Also the Go Power Monitor was install from the factory also .In 2016 the 190 watt panels was not available on the build sheet.

    Patrick, Any concerns that the A/C unit will cast a shadow on your solar panels?

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  3 роки тому +2

      Yes....I do think that can affect them but with such a small trailer, the space on the roof is pretty limited for options. The good news is now with one on each side of the AC, I feel like we can maximize the sun regardless of where it is in relationship to the AC unit

    Not sure how GoPower justifies charging that much for a 190 watt panel. I just installed 4-100 watt Newpowa Panels and a Victron Solar Controller. I received a message a couple days ago from customer they have been getting over 500 watts in peak sun from those panels so surpassing their expectations. I got them those 4 panels for $320.00 with shipping.....

    Seems extremely expensive for what it is. Can't you just buy a $200 190 watt solar panel and connectors for much less?

      @TravelswithDelaney  Рік тому +1

      You might be able to. I am happy with this brand and wanted to keep them both the same.

  • @gotodd712

    I wish you would have e come by. Would have installed a mppt victron. That i think you would really Love. There's a lot lagging with go power. But I get its place. And why lance choose this. And careful people need to understand the roof is Styrofoam. On my lance I could rip off the go power 190 panel factory installed with one hand. Lance is a great igloo cooler for temp but Carfull how anything is tried down. A lot of things on the lance is kind of glued down versus screwed down. Pull a couple screws you will get the picture

    • @TravelswithDelaney
      @TravelswithDelaney  3 роки тому +1

      Yes....Victron is wonderful. We had it on our T@B 400. Princess Craft installed the GOPower because it’s what Lance prewired the trailer for. We may someday upgrade to Victron but its always a money issue with a lot of this stuff....we have to pace ourselves.

    It's outrageous what Go Power charges for their panels! Very good panels are typically selling for $1.00 per Watt.

      Don’t know about other providers but I needed help with my GP system and I called GoPower 1-800 and the tech spent two hours helping me at no extra cost. And it turned out just a switch had not been turned on in the system. I’ll pay a little extra for that kind of service thank you very much.
