Grady Smith lovin these videos about country music in the decade or 2019! If you don’t mind I’d like to see a Maddie and Tae video about their new music. (They’re my fav!) They got an album and another ep coming up for 2020 I’m so excited!
Yeah same I hate that they just threw the steel and fiddle and replaced it with a electric guitar and not even good ones like softer guitars but it's like a new rock guitar
Well at least Rascal Flatts for the most part puts out quality music. Not to mention, those guys are pretty talented dudes (it took me a bit to get into them until I realized that they're actually really good musicians)
Joshua Pinckney how are they a boy band? They don’t dance, they play instruments and they still have steel guitar, fiddle and banjo in their music after all these years
Watch the music video for “Praying for daylight”, they definitely had a tad of boy band going on with their debut album it was 2000 though that was the thing. Also Joe Don could have easily been in a boy band haha
Zac Brown has basically outlined “how to tank your soaring career in 3 bad moves.” 1. Put out a horrible album that has a completely different sound than what you’ve built your fan base on. 2. A few days later put out a solo album that’s similar, just to further rub it in your fans faces. After all you could’ve saved your “selfish” music choices for your solo album but decided not to. 3. Blame your fans when it’s not well received. Make sure they know that the reason they don’t “get it” is because they’re “country purists.” Also throw in a comment about how your musical tastes have grown because of all of your “travels.” Ya ... us bumpkins who never go anywhere just aren’t worldly wise enough to relate to your elevated, fancy new taste in music. 🙄🤢
I don't think I've ever seen an artist coast off a debut album as ZBB has with The Foundation. The fact that people STILL care about them, despite every album after the fact being divisive, is pretty remarkable.
Alyssa M. Hughes It is. They’re such an incredible band and arguably one of the best group of musicians compiled, regardless of genre. I’ve seen them several times live and been a hard core fan for over ten years. That’s why this recent turn is soooo disappointing. When they’re in their prime, in their wheelhouse... wow are they amazing. But this recent turn has me totally... done. Clearly their success has gone to Zacs head. Maybe one day they’ll come back to us. Until then, at least we have their albums before The Bowel... I mean, The Owl.
Knockin' Boots, I will agree doesn't have the best lyrics, yet somehow it became my guilty pleasure song. I was driving around town on a rainy afternoon earlier this year when it came on and it just put me in a better mood and got me thinking about going line dancing at my favorite bar that night. I just can't play it around my bandmates as they hate it with a passion.
I will admit I don't even know what 'Knockin' Boots' means. I can imagine, but I would imagine it's a lot more innocuous that it sounds. Who knows. I would figure it's dancing, but a lot of people have said it involves a closeness between people that shouldn't be portrayed publicly. I don't know or care. I don't knock boots in any of the scenarios and am not inclined to.
I agree except for Kinfolks- didn’t like it at first, but it has one of the catchiest hooks of the year and kind of has this genuine energy about it, I like it
I’m surprised Ridin’ Roads didn’t piss me off as much as it probably should have and I too am still hold out for better from Lanco. But I can’t forgive Chris Lane for the worst song of 2019 - I Don’t Know About You because of the worst line of 2019 - “I know your favorite beer, ‘cause you told me and I bought it”
"What's your wrist tattoo bible verse say?" - maybe a clever lyric, but total douchebag guy at a bar assuming every girl must have a wrist tattoo - not a good song.
I just love Blake lol. He’s really nice irl too. I ran smack dab into his chest at Tin roof one night and I just looked up at him and said “hey you’re Blake shelton” and he was just worried about whether I spilt my drinks or not. Lol

What I like about you, Grady, is that you're so articulate in your analysis. The way you described Dustin Lynch as merging the worst parts of two trends and not being a "macho douchebag" or a "tender vanilla bean" really cracked me up. Good job, man!
Dragongaming-Kid friendly gaming right me too! The boy groups an the one girl group man I’ll be glad I haven’t heard anything they’ve done! I agree with this list! Just not great songs!

Silver Scorpio it’s unfortunate that Dean Brody doesn’t get noticed as much in the States because he makes good music. One of my favourite Canadian artists 👍
You are so right! I totally agree! These times I am listening to Dolly, Reba and Jo Dee, just to help me remember what country is... My my Miss the old Zac Brown Band too!!
You were spot on !!!! Dustin Lynch disappointed as an artist. He came out with two great country songs, then all of a sudden he felt he needed to be like the bro bullshit to relevant. Zach Brown don't even get me started, he talked so much crap about Luke Bryan doing pop and then all of a sudden he's more than country artist etc. Couldn't agree more, I respect Taylor Swift for saying hey all I'm going pop full time. That' what a lot of these people need to do.
There were two songs on Dustin Lynch's album 'Current Mood' that I thought were pretty good. One is called 'New Girl' and the other is called 'Sun Don't Go Down On That'.
Don't quote me, but I think he was upset about the results one year when his song "small town boy" didn't get any awards at the CMAs. The years following his debut, he was hot but was hurt because he felt that his song deserved the title. Hope everything makes sense, but yes I miss him too 💖
hey Grady thanks so much for your channel! One of my New Year's resolutions is to keep up with music more and your channel makes that so much easier! I can't add any worst songs I know because with your help I've only been listening to the good stuff this year.

Grady, I have never laughed so hard as listening to your comments on these "country" albums! You can now count me as a new subscriber! You do a great job of weaving in the history of country music while understanding that every genre changes...but hopefully changes in a GOOD way (and these albums definitely did NOT)!

About your comment about country boy band and other music that should be pop music. Here is my theory. The Pop scene is really competitive and in order to establish a spot artist have to establish some type of notoriety. I believe that some agent have drawn lessons from the Taylor Swift experience. Definately hit the nail on the head here Grady, so much meh "country music" was released in 2019. Where are the fiddles? Banjos? Steel guitars? Story telling? Hoping 2020 brings some real country hits
As an English musician who has always found country and Western music faintly amusing, the name 'Brantly Gilbert' brought something of a smile to my face.
Someone finally said it about Hell Right! 🙌🏼 This is a great list, although I probably wouldn’t have included Knockin’ Boots. It’s no masterpiece, but there were far worse.
Jeremy Heartriter2.0 Don't write them off until you hear them with an open mind. I used to do that, and now that I've reconsidered, I've learned to appreciate variances in the label "country music". :-) Merry Christmas, friend!
Jeremy Heartriter2.0 Just a thought :) I still prefer more true country, but I can get on board and enjoy some older Sam Hunt, some Thomas Rhett, Locash and Cole Swindell
Awesome video! I personally think riding roads, alcohol you later, and kinfolks were great in my opinion. I love to turn them up while driving around or just chilling listening to music. Keep doing what you are doing! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Good lord, some of those boy/girl band songs (and I'll include Dan + Shay in that) are atrocious. I wouldn't even mind them if they just stayed in the pop lane. And Dustin Lynch... man, he could've actually been really great.
Deshunn Smith Again, I’d be fine with them if they either made actual country music, or if they stayed on pop radio where they clearly belong. At least Taylor Swift had the balls to just make the switch when it was time for her to do so.
kinfolks is a joke round our house. we take turns singing "i wanna introduce you to my xxxxxx" and we put in a variety of redundant things. like small shrimps. its a lot more fun than listening to the song.
There would be no conflict if they would just split country up into different genres like pop country, rap country, outlaw country, classic country. It’s too diverse nowadays
We can only hope that George Strait, Tim McGraw, Shania Twain, Hank Williams Jr., Alan Jackson, and more of my favorite country stars don't (or didn't) follow Zack Brown's footsteps. Also, if I remember correctly, Nickelodeon star Jeanette McCurdy released country music at one point in time.
I actually really like “Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time” by Thomas Rhett. Amongst all the pop country albums out there, Center Point Road was actually one I really liked.
I don't listen to a lot of Country Music so much , Here is My Top 5 Worst Country Music Of 2019: 5. Luke Bryan- Knockin Boots 4. Kane Brown & Marshmello- One Thing Right 3. Galantis & Dolly Parton- Faith (never apply Vocal Effects to Dolly's Voice Ever Again) 2. That Blanco Brown Album (AHHH!) 1. ZAC BROWN BAND- THE OWL ALBUM (JUST NOOO)
I actually don't think it's a particularly bad song or anything. I just find it more uninspired and bland more than anything. And the titular hook doesn't even really stick in a pop song context. It's just in-one-ear-out-the-other forgettable. But it doesn't grate my nerves like most of Hunt's other singles have.
ANYTHING by Luke Bryan!! I can't even listen to one of his songs without feeling the bile rise in my throat. His music is every country stereotype multiplied by 1000! Dogs, trucks, catfish, various farm critters, using the word 'them' to make yourself sound country; it doesn't end. It's all stupid and vapid and senseless, and it makes me literally sick.
As always, these are just my opinions. I ain't any more of an authority than you are, so like what you like! (And dislike what you dislike.)
Still waiting on home free video.

Someone finally said it about Hell Right! 🙌🏼 This is a great list, although I probably wouldn’t have included Knockin’ Boots. It’s no masterpiece, but there were far worse.
Up until tonight i thought that Zac brown clip was edited, I am horrified
It’s so weird how much I agree with everything you talk about.
Not That I shouldn’t it’s just insane how much we agree on
Do you review indie country music?
I've never heard 90% of those songs but I already dislike them.
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Don't write them off until you hear them with an open mind. I used to do that, and now that I've reconsidered, I've learned to appreciate variances in the label "country music". :-)
Merry Christmas, friend!
@@peggyrider2364 maybe I should consider that. Merry Christmas!
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Just a thought :)
I still prefer more true country, but I can get on board and enjoy some older Sam Hunt, some Thomas Rhett, Locash and Cole Swindell
@@peggyrider2364 Cole Swindel is my guilty pleasure just like Dan and Shay.
Jeremy Heartriter2.0
Haha same with Cole Swindell. I'm not a huge fan of Dan and Shay, but I do love Speechless and I enjoy Tequila :)
"I'm not even gonna include Old Town Road in this video"
Dude, ya just did.
Worst “country” song is God Given ZBB and it ain’t close.
Awesome video! I personally think riding roads, alcohol you later, and kinfolks were great in my opinion. I love to turn them up while driving around or just chilling listening to music. Keep doing what you are doing! Merry Christmas to you and your family!
Retitle this "Country has been shit since 2007....all of it, yes all of it"
Thats being generous. 88 would be more correct and this is coming from someone who grew up with 90's country.
Every since I heard "This is how we roll" by Florida Georgia Line I've always thought they were in the wrong genre lmao
Keisha Iz Awesome no shit
That electric guitar on the wall.
Gotta dive into the underground for good country now, for example Cody Jinks
Good lord, some of those boy/girl band songs (and I'll include Dan + Shay in that) are atrocious. I wouldn't even mind them if they just stayed in the pop lane.
And Dustin Lynch... man, he could've actually been really great.
Dan + Shay is fuckin great
Dustin Lynch had a TON of potential after his first album. So far that's still the best one unfortunately.
Deshunn Smith Again, I’d be fine with them if they either made actual country music, or if they stayed on pop radio where they clearly belong. At least Taylor Swift had the balls to just make the switch when it was time for her to do so.
To me, Dan and Shay have just taken their place as Rascal Flatt’s successor.
Dan and Shay aren't country, period. They may be a good group and make good music, but it doesn't belong in the country genre.
This new country just sucks, bring back the 80s and 90s
I agree
Coltin Lucas thank you
kinfolks is a joke round our house. we take turns singing "i wanna introduce you to my xxxxxx" and we put in a variety of redundant things. like small shrimps. its a lot more fun than listening to the song.
Matthew Williams
That's amazing 😅 Respect 👌👌👌
I alway thought it was "I wanna introduce you to my Kenpo" lol
Happy new everyone!! 🥳
Country is a strong word... lolol
Pop music
There would be no conflict if they would just split country up into different genres like pop country, rap country, outlaw country, classic country. It’s too diverse nowadays
clev 1 The problem is that pop country is the only one played on the radio
Oh my gosh the meme at 4:50. I spit up my drink.
Grady: "Country music boy-band."
Me: NONONONONONONONONONONONONONONONNONNONONONNONOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!
Just feel very blessed that I didn't recognize at least 2/3 of these songs.
TheSharkAnt Gaming & More yup
I actually really like “Don’t Threaten Me with a Good Time” by Thomas Rhett. Amongst all the pop country albums out there, Center Point Road was actually one I really liked.
I don't listen to a lot of Country Music so much , Here is My Top 5 Worst Country Music Of 2019:
5. Luke Bryan- Knockin Boots
4. Kane Brown & Marshmello- One Thing Right
3. Galantis & Dolly Parton- Faith (never apply Vocal Effects to Dolly's Voice Ever Again)
2. That Blanco Brown Album (AHHH!)
1. ZAC BROWN BAND- THE OWL ALBUM (JUST NOOO)
Only one of these is really even country tbh
One thing right isn’t country it’s Marshmello’s song
@@thundertv1431 it played on Country Radio. Ew
The wolf painting looks like a minecraft creeper
Kinfolks is a guilty pleasure for me
Same 😊
I actually don't think it's a particularly bad song or anything.
The worst songs are in country music is 2 songs Fgls may we all acoustic and we were by Keith urban
New viewer here. I agree with so much on these picks! You said exactly what I was thinking so many times!
