Kind of Bill Evans on Linnstrument

- OK, it's not even a Bill Evans tune (and this version certainly doesn't sound anything like him). But it always makes me think of him because he played it so beautifully.
When Jeremy Cubert and I got together a year or so ago and made a couple videos, in one of them we used the chord changes for the first sixteen bars of Thad Jones' "A Child is Born" to jam over. Here I play the whole thing solo, melody included.
I'm playing Embertone's "Walker D".
Nice! I think you've captured the Bill Evans vibe very well and really, there is no greater compliment. Keep going.
Thanks so much!
Loved every second, incredible playing!Would never have guessed it wasn’t played on a keyboard, this is amazing
Thanks so much!
This was really beautiful playing. I loved the tenderness and ebbs & flows of the gestures. Thanks very much for sharing this.
Thanks so much for the kind words!
Excellent
Thanks so much, I appreciate it!
Very nice sir , I waiting more videos please.
Thanks so much for watching!
Beautiful
Thanks!
Lovely
Thanks Miles!
Beautiful dude!!
Thanks a lot!
Wow!
Thanks so much!
Wonderful playing.I'm wondering what difficulties I might encounter as a guitar player when learning the Linnstrument. I have little to no keyboard experience.
Thanks so much! I bet you'll find it very friendly and easy to learn, and I think the majority of players come from guitar.
teach me your ways
Thanks for watching! What I'm doing here isn't all that complicated. I was actually thinking of making a video about how I approach the Linnstrument in terms of comping and harmonic movement because I think it lends itself so well to it, although it might be a bit of an afterthought for many who buy it.
Stephen Barnard i would love to see that. im trying to get better at mine. i want to get good at it and use it like a "real" instrument. like you. not a lot of lessons so id appreciate any tips
Bravo. Really enjoyed this. Please do consider putting together a go to of your thoughts, approach etc... on the linny. It's a fabulous tool. And you are a fab player of it.
@@reckon104 I also would love to see that video!!!
Where is the sustain pedal plugged in? Does it sense half-damping or just on/off?
Plugs in on side. Half-damping depends on software, but pianoteq certain can.
Impressive! Most people, like myself, play the linnstrument for expressive solo play. I'm curious how you would compare it to a keyboard for two handed piano-style play? Keep up the great work!
Thanks! I find it has some advantages (as well as disadvantages) compared to standard keyboard layout. I was pleasantly surprised at how well it lends itself to keyboard style play as I certainly expected to use it exclusively for single melodic line expressive play.
@@reckon104 care to elaborate on the main disadvantages? I am considering this product but also like to use it harmonically so any feedback would help!
The way that the fingers have to be kind of tight together is arguably a bit less comfortable than standard keyboard layout. Also, depending on how and what you play, sometimes you can't see some of the notes you're playing, but I didn't even really notice that until I had it for a while. Generally I feel the advantages are more noticeable, but of course everyone has their own unique experience with it! Hope this helps.
@@reckon104 Please explain the advantages over a piano for two-handed chord piano-style playing (other than playing 10th chords with your left hand). Why wouldn't you just use a standard keyboard?
Hi there. Well played! This piano sounds realistic. Do you experience any pain playing chords, likd the ones where youre thumb is used. If you play piano, how does the comfort, ergonomics of playing chord compare?
Thanks! I have never experienced pain playing the Linnstrument. I would say in some ways the way that the hand gets to stretch out more playing piano feels somewhat more comfortable, but with the Linnstrument it's much easier to play certain chords, as is transposition.
Is the format of the tone layout 4ths or something custom?
4ths/factory
Some of the voicings please? Seems you are only using three note voicings in the right hand?
You might want to check out my video on two-handed approaches. Goes over many of the voicings I'm using in this video.
Beside all gear - the music is wonderful…
Thanks so much for listening!
Was this an internal sound or a plugin? If so which one?
It is Embertone's "Walker D"
Do you give lessons?
I have actually been considering doing so, although haven't started yet. If you're interested, shoot me an email at stephenlesterbarnard@gmail.com and we can see if it makes sense for both of us! ...and thanks for watching!
