  • In this video, Mike outlines the mode of failure and subsequent repair of an Aston Martin DBS engine, and an Aston Martin V8 Vantage S engine.
    The DBS was regrettably driven through a flood. It surprisingly takes very little water to hydraulic lock and damage the engine. Mike outlines where the air induction system entry is located and how to avoid flood damage - which is quite simply, don’t drive through water deeper than a mild puddle.
    Mike then outlines the repair needed.
    The engine in the V8 Vantage S was not from original production build, it had a remanufacturing label / tag on the block. The remanufactured V8 engine had dropped an inlet valve which damaged a piston and a liner beyond repair.
    Both cars could not have been put back on the road and repaired by the main agent network because remanufactured engines are not currently in stock.
    For the Aston Martin V8 Vantage, DB9, Rapide, DBS, V12Vantage, Aston Martin Virage and new Aston Martin Vanquish, Rapide S and V12VS models. If you have an engine problem, probably, its the independent networks you need to seek out for them to put the car back on the tarmac.
    After digesting the information in this video, you will be able to make an informed decision which type of maintenance and repair options is the best suited to look after your Aston Martin.

    Wouldn’t touch this company with a barge pole use Mcgurk instead.

      Entitled to your opinion of course, but I’ve used Bamford Rose extensively for my N400 and have been delighted with everything they’ve done.

      😂 What a muppet you are.
      Please don’t delete your comment which I’ve pinned to the top!!
      But I bet you will …!!!
      Muppets always delete their muppet comments when they are exposed.
      If you ever need complex work on your Aston, selecting a sales outlet over qualified engineers will unlikely work out.
      Just how it didn’t work out for the many cars one garage themselves had to take to the other garage to fix, because the other garage ran out of talent.
      Not telling the truth I hear you question?
      One company has a C drive full of invoices entitled to the other company, for cars the other company couldn’t fix.
      Still not telling the truth I hear you question?
      Interrogate the Internet to see which business owner literally talked himself into a prison cell.

      Noting Nick…..
      If you ever take a Sportshift gearbox car to any garage with split pipes, and no fluid in the system, which inevitably compromised the pump.
      By not renewing the pump because not wanting to incur the spend, will likely not work out robustly for future use, most probably for the next owner, because it was commented the car was just being patched up for sale.

      Leaving bad comments on a company's page is the new form of 'love-hate' relationships. They just can't resist keeping an eye on what's going on! 😅

      Being software / calibration engineer for the factory. I was first person on the planet to ever fire up on a dyno a….. 4.3 V8, V.7 V8, 470/510/565 BHP V12 and 1-77.
      Whilst those were special moments that nobody can take away from me, releasing each fully rebuilt engine in aftermarket is more special, for many reasons.
      The fact the company has the skill ability to do it, which is a massive team effort, compared to most of the franchised network seemingly unable to. Then finally, to reunite each broken car, now working, back with an elated new owner, is very satisfying.

    I've used Bamford Rose on several occasions and have only good things to say about Mike and the team. When it comes to understanding the engineering of this era of Astons, I doubt there is a better place in the UK.

    Yes, just don't drive a car through water. Huge chance of thermal shock on exhaust and cats even without engine damage.
    No mention of the crankshaft but I'll guess the long V12 crankshaft was so bent it was obvious without measuring. Once again, another customer saved from huge expense. Fantastic result.

    • @BamfordRose
      @BamfordRose  8 місяців тому +1

      The cranks are so strong the block would likely disintegrate before the crankshaft distorted

    Aston Martin dealer labour charge has just increased from £190 to £240+ vat per hour!!

    • @BamfordRose
      @BamfordRose  8 місяців тому +7

      15 hours engine out, 15 hours engine in, 10 hrs engine strip and measure. 40hrs engine build. That’s £23k just in labour, no parts or machining!
      That’s if they had a suitably competent technician to do the work, and an engine buildshop away from the main workshop

    Not good to see a dropped valve on a 10 year old 30,000 mile car. Was the cause related to the shim issue?

    • @BamfordRose
      @BamfordRose  8 місяців тому +6

      The V8 engine had been previously remanufactured.
      The valve seats didn’t exhibit over temperature, so it’s not because of something like a too lean calibration. The valve head broke off quite a way up the stem, also indicating it’s wasn’t calibration and component failure.
      Who knows if the valves were reused during remanufacture process? And if so, how many hours they had done in total.
      The failure was not shim related.

    Has that V8 got V12 wheels added - or were they the same for both models in that year?

    Surely the issue is getting the second hand block in the first place?..virtually any top.end engine builder can rebuild an engine with the right parts available....

    • @BamfordRose
      @BamfordRose  8 місяців тому +3

      Block sourcing is the issue, yes. Which is exactly the commentary of the video. “The repair is a success for the independent network”.
      Franchised dealer won’t be buying a 4.3 block off EBay (there are seldom 4.7’s ready to go for sale). Machine / convert the block to a 4.7 and then rebuild it - There’s no factory process for that, yet no factory engines to repair the car with.

    Always found Mike to be extremely helpful and his videos show the level of professionalism , again a worrying situation regarding scarcity of manufactured v12 blocks , regarding the comment below @Nikdby, . Mcgurk sell cars , each to there own , but when an independent Aston specialist invests in a dedicated engine repair centre , I know where i would be going if i needed my engine fixing ,
