Thanks for that! I am a fellow pilot from germany about to be trained on 787 as well... your video is helpful to understand the flow. Better than just reading the handbook.
In the fix info u can put airport, vor, ndb, ils code and even waypoints there. When u put it in there it will show u on the ND screen highlights as a green color. It will give u distance from the fix to your aircraft also. In the video i put the airport code and the distance ring. For the 25nm i put that is for the MSA around the airport. It gives u the green distance ring on the ND. For long flights u also put the distance ring to determine the ETP, well that will depend on your flightplan. Hope it helps
@@manunitedphong thanks, I’m building a home simulator, would you know where I can find dimensions of panels? For example the MCP or EFIS panels …. Found lots for 737, nothing for 78
The efis on the 787 is modernized, all the page like status message, air, hydraulic, door etc is combine in one system page, u use the touchpad to scroll through it. It this what u look for?
@@manunitedphong thanks for the fast reply!! I’m looking for the width of the MCP in millimetres… I have the height at 88mm but can’t find the width anywhere. I’m hoping to find someone that has access and a tape measure ☺️
The FAA did not allow the 787 to have touchscreens for the FMC and MFDs when it was being developed in the mid 2000s as it simply wasn't good enough yet. It was supposed to be. They didn't have much choice but to include the trackpad and rotary knob. They also had to make the FMC virtual as the large lower screen (which displays lots of info and features) means there wasn't room to place the FMC on a physical CDU next to the pilot like on older aircraft.
@@manunitedphong I think it's about the safety. If we think about a pilot who drinks something on the cockpit. He/she can spill drink onto screens and this may cause a damage on flight control panels. A350 is newer but it doesn't have touch screens also. But i think they can solve this problem by using a pencil that can only interact with touch screens. Maybe this can prevent damages caused by something.
787 "pilots" aren't real pilots anymore. They are like operators, programmers. You don't need to know how to fly but you need to know how to operate plane.
If u said that for an airbus u would be kind of correct, but ur talking abt an aircraft despite its fbw that still needs manual trimming and no hard flight envelope protections.

That display makes it feel like you're programming a fmc in a simulator

Excellent video, thank you!

What do you write on the FIX INFO page?

So are there times when you don't use the FIX INFO page during actual flight?
@@DREAMLN-ER yep, the fix info is just giving u the reference point.
So the Airshow Map takes all the data from the FMC?
How is it normally to use the trackpad on the 787? Is it good or problematic?
@@ClaysonAntoons u will use it more often compare to the Triple, the touchpad feels weird at first but once u get used to it then it works perfectly
Do the pilots and copilots controls for the shared display work independently, does it behave like two separate display screens?
Yes it does

@@ZX7ROB good to hear that, i never build a home cockpit so i’m not sure about that, but the 787 is similar to 777 so i think u can try to look for it

In the future it will be, this aircraft technology was back in 2007 so it still comes with the touchpad
