Yes, it was a real event. Back in 1972, an Uruguayan rugby team chartered an Uruguayan Air Force plane to take them to Chile. It crashed in the mountains, the Argentinian Andes, and many died, survivors were forced to endure below freezing temperatures, cannibalism and avalanches for 72 days until they were rescued.
Cannibalism is a choice, people eating people because they enjoy to do it. What happened in the Andes was a matter of survival and meant the difference between living or dying.
There are three films based on this event (called 'the miracle of the Andes'): - SURVIVE: An unauthorised Mexican film. The survivors find it grotesque. - ALIVE: The survivors have always said it is not real story. They find the way the characters and facts are portrayed superficial and disrespectful. - SOCIETY OF THE SNOW: The survivors and the families of the deceased participated as consultants since the beginning of the project in order to make the most historically accurate depiction, and pay tribute to all the heroes of the ordeal, especially those who couldn't return to their families. The true story is about extraordinary teamwork.
Dear Wade & Wade, it is humanity's greatest survival story. True story. You can't stop watching the movie! I am from Uruguay, the country of birth of the survivors of this accident, and I had children of survivors of the accident as classmates at school.
If you don't know the real story, you have to see the movie definitly. It will blow your mine. I'm uruguaian. I know every detail. My family know some of them. I really recomend you to not read anything about it and go directly to the cinema.
Wow! I can see how the film affected these 2 guys! I’m from Uruguay, was only a kid when the accident happened, but know the story too well. Haven’t watched the movie yet and don’t know if I will, but I’m glad someone is finally showing the world everything that happened, exactly as it happened.
I have to add at least nine survivors have their own cameos. The Dr. who holds Canessa as he walks into the hospital is Canessa himself who became a doctor. Carlos Paez, plays his father who also was named Carlos.
This happened 50 years ago. Chile Arhentina and Uruguay looked for them and gave up. They were 72 days in Cordillera de Los Andes, with nothing but themselves and their will to survive. They deserve all our respect...
look up for this country and you wouldnt belive how many imposible storys are to tell, 1950 maracana, wars against englan portugal sapin, the only city the american continetn thta cound neve be conquer etc etc
Back in the day there was also another movie made about those called alive with Ethan Hawke and it was really good as well so I will be interested to see once I watch this how comparable they are
Enjoy the new version my friend. Is much more accurate than Alive! which is also a great tribute to what happened in the Andes, but Society of the Snow tells the story exactly how it was, with the real names and ages of the people involved and also, it is with uruguayan and argentine actors which makes you immerse much more in the story since is told in their original language. Also some of the real survivors appear in the new movie. Masterpiece!
WITHOUT Don Sergio Hilario Catalán Martínez (CHILEAN Arriero 🇨🇱) who was the hero who saved the Uruguayans. Neither the Spanish (film producer) nor the Argentinians and Uruguayans (actors) would have had a film (they would have no story to tell). LONG LIVE CHILE! 🇨🇱, always helping the neighborhood!

Cannibalism is when someone kills to eat someone else. What these people did is called Anthropophagy
Cannibalism is a choice, people eating people because they enjoy to do it. What happened in the Andes was a matter of survival and meant the difference between living or dying.
they saved themselves
Correction: After 2 of them finally decided to hike the mountains to find help
Es antropofagia.

No, they never say disrespectfully, they say "Alive" is kind og soft for what happened. Roberto said "Is like a Disney movie"
Most of them did fight the decision to make the movie but couldn't do anything in the end cause they had sold the rights for the book.

Wow amazing. We are looking forward to watching this film. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Spectacular, fantastic movie, it explains what happened but most importantly, it explains what they felt.
This movie was excellent, I cried, you really feel for these poor souls that endured this tragic event
I cried at the end when they got rescued lol
If you don't know the real story, you have to see the movie definitly. It will blow your mine. I'm uruguaian. I know every detail. My family know some of them. I really recomend you to not read anything about it and go directly to the cinema.
Thanks for the advice.

LONG LIVE CHILE! 🇨🇱, always helping the neighborhood!
You have to watch first "Alive" (1993). A Paramount movie.
Jesus Christ loves yall! Repent and trust in the Lord our God!
