    It's really awesome that you're including AiOs in Air Cooler Testing as well. I don't understand why other hardware reviewer here on youtube don't do that.

      Damn, do they not? That’s surprising because a huge portion of people building PCs are not building in small form factors - unless your space is at a premium, AIO vs Air Cooling is just a matter of preference really.

      I agree as well. The Phantom Spirit 120 EVO is an impressive cooler. Built my new PC with a 13700K and keeps it under 60c while gaming. Amazing quality and looks great, for a good price. Plus there is only one video I found on UA-cam about it. So it needs representing.

      @@tf330129 I also just build my PC with a 13700k and a Phantom Spirit 120 SE. IDK why but when gaming it really warms up, around 80-85ºC. And it's just really loud. Bought the Thermalright frame hoping to improve thermals and had the same results. I'm about to lock the power limits to see if it solves the problems :/

    This cooler is such excellent bang for buck. There is so much s#!t on YT about tech, it's good to find a channel that keeps things real. Thank you.
    I have had this air cooler in my new rig for 6 months. I have an SFF/ITX build. My specs are: Asus B650E-I Gaming WiFi, AMD 7 7700X, 32GB RAM, RX 6800XT, in the Cooler Master Masterbox NR200. I have 2 x 120mm case fans pulling air in the bottom, 2 x 120mm case fans exhausting air out the top, and the little 92mm fan pushing air in the back onto this cooler that continues to pull air through. Max temp I've seen on a stress test was 87C. In real life never hotter than 82C on a rare occasion. Biggest noise is from the case fans ramping up on a hot game.
    Watching YT and with a dozen tabs open, my pc is silent. CPU is at 2% utilization and 51C. Ambient temp is probably ~20C

    I put one of these on my new 5800X3D, replacing a noctua NHU12-SEAM4 on a Ryzen 3600. My computer has completely changed overnight. My 6700XT gives me nearly 100% utilisation at 65c and the CPU with an undervolt is pinned at 4.5Ghz at 60c and I can’t hear ANYTHING. I love it. 1440p performance in AAA titles is so smooth. I couldn’t be happier.

    My Corsair 100R case supports coolers up to 150mm, according to Corsair's documentation. This 157mm tall Phantom Spirit fits nicely with a bit of room to spare (maybe 2 or 3mm) from the side panel. For people who also want to install this cooler in the Corsair 100R case, you'll need to rotate the heatsink so that the offset towers slightly overhang the M.2 slot (which will limit you to NVMe coolers of 33mm or shorter).
    I replaced the fans with Antec's Storm 120 x 30mm in the middle (you'll need to shave the fan's rubber pads a bit and it'll fit snugly), and cobbled some adapters to fit an Antec Storm 140 x 30mm fan in the front. Looking forward to near-silent gaming performance and a more peaceful sounding Folding@Home machine when I'm not gaming!

    Thank you for this great review! I recently bought the TR Phantom Spirit 120 along with TR Contact Frame for my new 14700K build. I'm so excited! I feel very comfortable but if the cpu runs a little hot in the summer I can always limit power draw slightly without too much loss in performance. I preferred AIR instead of Water cooling. We'll see how it goes. I'm very optimistic! Thanks again.

    Conspiracy theory: Is their thermal paste weirdly effective? Is there some chemical I should worry about?
    But seriously, thanks for being another source of scientific cooler+fan reviews.

    • @STSYT
      @STSYT  5 місяців тому +3

      Nice theory, but no. We use the same TP for all coolers.
      I get the approach of "trying whatever comes in the box", but then there's an additional layer of variables. And I try to focus on the cooler, not the potentially cheap thermal paste some company may or may not include.
      Thanks! Feels good to hear that! And thanks a lot for the Donation! It's much appreciated!
      * even if there shouldn't be anything to "worry" about in the TP, don't sniff, eat, or put it in your eye. Not recommended.

      I guarantee you’re getting worse performance by doing that as these coolers are specifically designed in relation to the fans. It’s why the evo has worse performance despite having “better fans.” Plus you just added $50 to the cost which puts it at the same price bracket of high end coolers that are 1-2 degrees warmer. I totally get it tho, their fans make their coolers look like something from Ali express so id also probably take the performance hit for better esthetics.

  • @TiagoToro
    @TiagoToro 7 місяців тому +6

    Who cares how it feels, the important part is performance, and holy shit the price, imagine paying 60 bucks more for a deep cool assassin IV, and having worse performance.
    Thanks for the review!

    • @richboii6597
      @richboii6597 2 місяці тому

      You should look at hardware canucks benchmarks of how these coolers act once you introduce heat from a gpu like when your actually gaming. It changes everything. Assassain4 might be 1-2 degree worse performance, in STS test, but it’s 10x more unique looking. I love what thermalright is doing but let’s be real, the design language of their coolers just isn’t good. They look like something from Ali express. A lot of people building high end systems care about esthetics and build quality and are more than happy spending extra money for it at the expense of a literal imperceivable performance “hit.”
      You’re really giving off “anyone who spends $30 on a fan is an idiot” vibes. Just let people buy what they like.

    One of the best Aircoolers in general with a really good price tag indeed! TR has a lot of options and have competetive coolers on the market for over two decades. Just missing a comparison or look at AMD platforms. Some, like Dark Rock Elite/Pro 5, do not perform very well there or need an offset mount. The TRs and Deepcool ie. perform very well ootb.

    Finally! Been waiting for this. Awesome results from such a cheap/affordable cooler. I have the SE version wiith some upgraded fans (TL-B12's) and happy with its performance and noise.
    No real need for anything more on AM4/5 unless you have a high end 12-16 core X3D chip and are doing heavy workloads on it. On Intels side, a 14700K and lower.. probably the same and for gaming its more than enough for any chip.
    Want to see what TR come up with next. There is one I found from a UK retailer, with the Frost Vortex 140 SE in stock thats a 7 heatpipe cooler with a similar mass as the Frost Commander and fan setup but with a 6x6mm heatpipe and 1x8mm. Newer fans and newest AGHP 4 heatpipes. But thats only place that has it and even on TR's own website it doesn't exist.

    Interesting. I'm thinking of getting the EVO. You mention that it doesn't feel as high quality as Noctuas and BeQuiets. One of the problems with tech reviews is that hardly anyone has the time and resources to do long-term use tests.
