Yes, for the first base layer it’s important for each drop to be inside the previous. Otherwise you end up with breaks in the final pattern where the colors never quite meet. For the first row up the middle I’m waiting for each drop to spread a little before I place the next one inside it. The two outside rows I can place more quickly since the first row has already spread out.
