One question, what was before space, and what made whatever it was? I give myself a headache trying to come up with an idea on what was there.
The is exactly what I was going to post. I've watched a number of these videos and not one explains how and when everything started. If the Big Bang started as an atom, then where did the atom come from? If the Big Bang came from something smaller than an atom, or bigger, where did that come from? Isn't there a law in physics that says matter has to come from matter? This is one reason I am agnostic and not atheist. Because no physicist can adequately explain the starting point ... the Big Bang is not the starting point. The atom that created the Big Bang is not the starting point because the atom had to come from somewhere. Likewise if the Big Bang happened in a black hole, where did the black hole come from?
If I think about these things for too long my brain can't comprehend the complexity and I have to think of something else,
Apocalypse Plough Well first off, sometimes you have to leave a void of knowledge in your mind. It's difficult because it's in our genes to be curious, but you have to let go of the temptation to fill in the lack of knowledge with ancient outdated explanations. But it is good to keep your mind open.
Second, this is not something you will be able to reason with logic. Our logic is based off of everyday interactions with matter and energy. We construct this mental experience of our surroundings in our brains and learn what to expect in similar situations. But the physics we can comprehend breaks down when the scale shrinks to the quantum level and/or when energy becomes extremely high. All of our logic goes out the window. Cause and effect simply do not happen like what we are accustomed to on the macro scale. Virtual particles, quantum entanglement, DeBroglie wavelengths, inherent uncertainty, ect. are all well documented phenomena that we cannot directly sense or even comprehend, but exist at a certain level.
Also, some more food for thought, if space-time did not exist at some point, or existed in a different form, how would time flow to allow cause and effect? There would be no "before the Big Bang" if time did not exist to allow a 'before'. The 'cause' of the event we call the Big Bang may not have a logical flow of events that we can comprehend. It might be beyond our capacity to comprehend. And again, this is just food for thought... something to raise awareness of potential innate reasoning flaws we have.
ya same with me...what was before space and time..just darkness then who created darkness..was there any thoughts..if a god particle was der..where did it come from??

Your explanation is the best one I have heard, and it is the one I tell myself and anyone who brings up the subject. Some things are beyond our comprehension. Time and space may not have existed when the Big Bang happened, or it may have existed in some other form. So the question of whether there was a "before" becomes moot. It's best to keep our minds open and to acknowledge that some things are beyond our comprehension. Perhaps they will always be beyond our comprehension. Perhaps not. Let's keep our minds open.
Funny, I have thought about your answer since you posted and I was sure I responded. I pondered this for years and now I have an answer. I apparently forgot to thank you. So, thank you.
Well geez. If they're not telling you what caused the big bang then that means that they don't know. It's still a mystery. And there's a chance that they will probably never know. There's nothing wrong with not knowing something. Science doesn't know everything and probably never will. The day that it does will be a very sad day for all scientists as everything that made them wake up with with excitement, namely the joy of discovery, will be gone. No one has found the answer yet. And it's not like they aren't trying to get an answer. There have been some attempts at answering this question such as the multiverse, string theory, the big bang singularity. Also, there was no ''before the big bang'' since there was no time to allow a before. So it makes no sense to use temporal terms such as 'before'.
I think the hardest thing for human beings to accept is that they simply do not know.
Right how can people predict that a blast is the reason why stars and space exist from something that happen 12.8 billion years ago. We don’t even keep track of stuff that happen 1 million years ago here on earth.
We might not keep track but rocks, fossils, etc keep track of that stuff for us. There’s always an explanation trust me

We can only surmise what may have happened. Exactly what we do with weather forecasts.

I think Big Bang is created by quantum fluctuations.
But for the quantum fluctuations to happen it needs time.
But they are saying that time is not there before universe.
And they are also saying that space is created after universe.
It means can quantum field exist without space?

Mayor of TH What people don't understand about it is that there was no before the Big Bang. Nothing existed at the time. It's not that we came from nothing it's that there was quite literally nothing before the Big Bang. This is the same concept as there is no outside of the universe except that it is temporal and not spatial.
Totally agree, the question has to have an answer, and if so, why not? Saying that the question is meaningless is surely an insult to anyone who creates theoretically

As a lover of Science, I absolutely believe in the big bang theory and I also believe that "someone", "something" was behind the Big Bang. I keep questioning the fact that, regardless of science and religion and how the universe was created, our existence is part of “something” that has had to have been created from nothing. And it’s hard to wrap my head around that whatever made the universe is something and we are just a side affect of a much bigger thing.

Basically if there is something that moves then it requires a mover, if the mover moves then IT requires a mover, so on a so forth. There must however be one mover that cannot be moved that had to start the chain of movement. Or in other words there had to be a first mover.
Science is very young. The scope of science, as it matures, can potentially be limitless. Never doubt its power.

If you think about time though it's a relatively new construct invited in humanity X amount of years ago. 4000 years doesnt have to be 1,460,000 days. 24 hours in a day is only a relatively recent human perspective on time. Maybe the bible is true and maybe those early days of creation when the "earth was created in 7 days" and god said let there be light (big bang) maybe 1 day was several billion years. We may never know!

Everything came into existence from something the size of a proton...then they said the universe came from nothing. This sounds like a contradiction because he just mentioned that there was something small. Where did that small thing come from?
I love watching these videos, even if they confuse me. I get confused because I have trouble accepting that that particle smaller than a proton existed in a place where there was no space or time, and then it exploded, creating space and time. Where did the particle exist?? Lol. Thinking like that makes my head hurt.
To say "asking what happened before the big bang is a meaningless question" is only a valid statement when you assume that nothing can happen when no time exists. And if that were true, then the big bang could not have happened either. It's much more likely that all things happen simultaneously when no time exists much like how your dreams feel as though they have a timeline when in reality you experience your entire dream simultaneously at the moment you wake up. That would make the aforementioned question very meaningful.
I know exactly what your saying and I agree but you experience your dream as you experience it. It only feels like its simultaneously experienced when you wake because your conscious mind is now thinking and remembering about it. Or you might not ever remember it.
Time is simply the measure of the changes in "something" whether matter or energy or virtual particles in space. There is no time when there is no space where changes in "something"can take place. There is also no time when there is no "something" that changes.

does anybody else get anxiety by wondering how space formed and what's out side of space and what was there before space. I literally cannot sleep sometimes because my mind drifts off into these thoughts

Life is eternal, because energy is eternal. There was never truly nothing. If the theories of thermodynamics states that energy cannot be created or perish, how can scientists say that nothing created the universe. Counter-intuitive.
That's a non sequitur. Just because there is energy doesn't mean there is life. In fact, we know for a fact that that's not true. Not to mention, the first law of thermodynamics you're referring to deals with closed, observable systems. Not something as complex as our universe (which doesn't necessarily have walls)
Much of what happens at a quantum level is counter-intuitive. The Universe isn't bound by what a human can understand intuitively, so get over yourself.

If it expanded to that distance in that amount of time, the particles (or sub particles) would have had to travel above the speed of light.
I don’t think it’s correct to assume that there was speed or even the concept of speed during the big bang. It might of just started and ended instantly.

J0113 There is a proposition that time is not liner, and it is an eternity of now moments. The only problem with this is that time, even if it is non-linear, would only start after the Bang, and in non-linear time, one cannot go back in time, especially to a time when there is no time. I get your confusion :)

Hehe, well it is confusing stuff because the Universe is not so straightforward. Other evidence points to time and space being illusions. This would make sense due to the fact that energy and matter are eternal, and that there was "something" before time. Though having life before time does not make much sense at first, it does if you see time as an illusion.

The problem of saying whether God created itself is that time began during the Big bang, meaning if God did create said Big bang God would predate time and thus would have no beginning or end.

Its really quite a beautiful great picture of reality, so simple and so deep and wonderful as the heavens themselves. A neverending arena of time and space that just is what it is. We are not the centre of it but the point at which we observe it is, giving us the illusion that it is expanding. It is our understanding of it that is expanding.If anything was getting bigger without stopping, in eternity it would already be there.
To all the believers of God, let me first ascertain that I am believer in some kind of GOD form too. But I have difficulty to get my head around religious books; every religion in the world has its own theory of how god created universe and the life forms. Christianity say's jesus created it and Hinduism say's that Lord brahma created it all. Reading these books with little common sense indicate to me that they were just attempts from learnt men at that time to explain the universe and the complex nature of it.
We knew too well that earth took long time (millions of years) before it is hospitable to human kind. It clearly indicates process of evolution, from simple life forms to complex life forms. Why would god need so much time to create universe and life if he is so powerful?
On the other side we have scientists whose curiosity gets better of the blind faith. There were able to theorize, predict and then proved their findings with experimental evidence. The satellite through which my response could be reaching google server is indeed technical application of laws of physics and gravity.
What was there before the big bang? The scientists answer that it is singularity (a point less than that of the size of proton) to me sounds like 'we do not know'. Because scientists have had no plausible explanation of how something could come from nothing. I do not understand why scientists have difficulty in saying "we do not know yet".

paulanderson79 Check out Hubble's constant. Basically the farther the distance an object is from us, the faster is will travel away from us. If the distance is great enough, the light will never reach us because the space between the two points is expanding faster than the light can travel. Or something like that. I guess it could be applied to the first moments after the big bang.

@@ariastrwn7933 I'm getting really into the idea of eternal recurrence, the notion that our universe and many others have occurred before, an infinite amount of times, with our one happening the exact way it is happening this time. And it will happen an infinite amount of times again, which is like blinks of an eye in space time, I mean just look how vast the known universe is, time is nothing in relation.
I like the idea that when we die we have no concept of time so in a moment we are back to being an infant again. So we get to live all those good times over again. Of course that means living through the bad times to, but that gives me reason to make as many good experiences as possible.
