    A couple important tips:
    1. I highly advise you to go to the settings and change jump from Pressing O during spring to L3 (the original did not allow this but the Remaster does and this is how all other Dark Souls games do it and it's for the better. The amount of times you'll die because you want to roll during a sprint only to jump to your death can not be understated)
    2. Learning to parry early will help you out in the long run. The shield/spear enemies are perfect example since they can attack behind their shield making it difficult to damage them. You can always kick their shield or backstab them. Also, Dark Souls 1 has by far the most satisfying parry/riposte because you can hit the attack as soon as you parry and it feels awesome.
    3. The Master Key is awesome but it allows you to go to places you "shouldn't" go way ahead of time. This is to say, if you end up in an area where everything oneshots you and you deal almost no damage you might be a in higher level area that you're not supposed to be yet. Nothing stops you from going there and sometimes there's valuable loot, but new players often trap themselves because they pick the Master Key, go to a high level area and then think that's just how the game is because "Dark Souls is hard".
    4. Shops dont have a "Show All" tab like in elden ring so when you talked to the undead merchant you only saw the 1st type of items (consumables) use the left/right arrows to switch tabs and see other types like armor/weapons/key items/etc

    Ohhhhh, lord, davo, if that first door to get out of the Asylum Demon's arena was a secret for you, you're going to have a hell of a time with the rest of this game.
    Be prepared to pay very close attention to your environment going forward, there will be much more obscure things than that to find in the world of Lordran.
    Looking forward to the rest of your journey, best of luck!
    Also, side note about Oscar (the knight you meet in the beginning), he was fatally injured by being slammed through the ceiling by the Asylum Demon after dropping the key into your cell in the intro cutscene. If you notice, there's no usable entrance to the room you actually find him in before the boulder smashes one through the wall, but there is a suspicious hole in the roof right above him, where the Asylum Demon would've been patrolling before confronting you.
    Dark Souls loves to tell stories through its environment and character design like this, in classic Fromsoft style. Another reason to keep an eye out.

    Something about Firelink Shrine and the estus flasks: You restore them just like in Elden Ring by resting on bonfires BUT the default amount of flasks is always 5. The bonfire in Firelink Shrine is special because of an NPC and reatores five flasks more. So every time you rest at that bonfire you get 10 flasks. And you can upgrade/lit every bonfire to get someday even up to 20 flasks, but how you do that you have to figure out for yourself!
    But its very helpful if you have points in the game you return to often so you get more estus flasks every time you cross these bonfires you upgraded and fully lit.

    Tip for Leveling up:
    The stats in DS1 are kinda whack. Like Elden Ring they have diminishing returns, giving you less and less each time you level up, but way harsher than Elden Ring. The "soft cap" is where it starts losing effectiveness and the "hard cap" is where the gains are basically nothing.
    Vitality: Increases HP: Soft: 30 Hard: 50
    Attunement: Increases the amount of spells you can hold: Hard: 50
    Endurance: Increases stamina, equip load and bleed resist. Hard: 40
    Strength: Increases damage of strength weapons.
    Dexterity: Increases damage of dex weapons and slightly increases spell casting speed: Soft: 35 Hard: 45
    Resistance: Increases resistance to status effects like poison, curse and toxin. Least useful stat since your Vitality and total Level also increase your status effect resistance. Hard: 50
    Intelligence: Increases magic scaling weapons and spells
    Faith: Increases holy scaling weapons and mircales
    Humanity: Can't be leveled up, but can be increased by finding humanity items. It increases your item drop chance, and is a resource you can spend to reverse hollowing (turn human, some curses are weaker against humans, and lets other players assist or invade you. Humanity can also be used to upgrade bonfires, which give you more Estus flask charges when you rest at that specific bonfire.) Hard: 30

    • @davobands
      @davobands  Місяць тому +1

      huge tip ty man

    • @Eyedunno
      @Eyedunno Місяць тому +1

      Hard cap does not mean "the gains are basically nothing"; it means the gains are literally nothing, so Attunement is the only stat with an absolute hard cap less than 99 (as such, max level challenges should ideally pause at 50 and not start leveling Attunement until Resistance is at 99 😂). Soft caps are the points at which diminishing returns set in, so 30 and 50 for Vitality are both soft caps.
      Anyway, for Endurance, only stamina is hard-capped at 40; equip load is capped at 99. Strength and Dex should be soft caps 20 and 40, hard 99 (but really no reason to level them past 40 for pure melee unless you are going for a very high level or want to one-hand a gigantic weapon or shield). And Dex also affects casting speed with a hard cap at 45. Int and Faith have their final soft caps at 50. 😅

    • @reyrapids63
      @reyrapids63 Місяць тому

      @@Eyedunno very good clarification. Soft caps and hard caps are not hard and fast, it's just the usual levels where people start to consider the stat "good enough" before they start focusing on a specific build.

    • @Eyedunno
      @Eyedunno Місяць тому +1

      @@reyrapids63 @reyrapids63 You literally just used the expression "hard and fast" which kind of establishes what "hard" means--strict and final.
      If increasing that stat still does something, even a little that won't necessarily make your character any more viable in practice, you're not at the hard cap yet. Soft caps are the points where you have a sharp dropoff in marginal returns, but those returns aren't yet zero. I'm not suggesting you level Vitality past 50 in DS1, but if you do, you can still get up to 400 additional HP for doing it, so obviously it's not completely pointless, just less effective for improving most builds than leveling a stat that's not softcapped would be.

    Pro Tip: DS1 does not have nearly as many chain attack combos as Elden Ring. Light attacks and Heavy attacks are mostly just 1 hit attacks. Meaning your R1 is good for a quick weaker hit on fast enemies, and the Heavy attack is what you need to actual damage. Focus on learning the timing of enemy attacks and take advantage of breaks to unleash a heavy attack.

    The cool thing about that guy who gave you your healing juice and died is that in pre-release versions of the game he actually survived. He would have been your friend and your rival, meeting with and giving you advice at several points as you both try to live out the destiny of the Chosen Undead. But he gets jealous, seeing you progress when it was HIS family that knew the legends of the undead, and even though he freed you to fufill the prophecy he thinks that HE could also be the Chosen one. So you would fight him to death before or after the final boss, kinda like Gideon the All Knowing.
    Anyways, his questline got scrapped and instead he gets SLAM DUNKED through the roof by the first boss, which jumps down to fight you after. You saw it up there before retrying the fight. That's why he dies in a bricked off room with the sun shining on his face, and you can only get in there by triggering the boulder to smash through the wall.

Check out homeward bones. The game is much more sword and board than ER so with the really bad dodge mechanics try to use your shield to block attacks from anyone your size to do counter attacks and dodge anything that looks like it will break your guard. Once you're comfortable with enemy moves then you could run past things but doing so early on will only lead to lost souls and sanity.

    Some mechanics for you to know about. Dark Souls 1 has fewer bonfires, but you can use humanity in your inventory to boost a bonfire and get more flasks from said bonfire, and there's quite a few considerable shortcuts to look out for. Not retaining a shortcut can be quite detrimental in runback. As a result you're often going to benefit the most going through areas more slow and methodically your first couple times. While it could make the game feel slower, you're also figuring out where things lead to. Using Humanity at bonfires to boost them, you will also restore your own to do so. Mind you that Humanity can be sometimes scarce, so use them wisely, but often bosses may give them and a "level" can drop up to a certain amount from regular enemies. Dying with humanity not used there's also a chance to recover within the level somewhere. Lastly I must recommend rolling into barrels for goodies often.

    Well ok, so few lil tips, you can jump in this game, you gotta hold run button and then double tap it, and if that wont work while running try to tap a left stick one of these should work cuz it changes in DS2 or 3 and I do not remember. Also, there is a lot of hidden areas so look around a lot for example if I would to give you a tip... look close to the FAT cleric at the firelink shrine, there is something cool in there. Also covenants yeaaaah... The one from fat cleric is pretty good for the start, Covenants are mostly PVP related but have some questlines too :D. Oh and when it comes to flasks and humanity, you can use humanity once to reverse hollowing at bonefire, then use second to upgrade bonefire and have more flasks after sitting on it, every bonefire have 5 flasks from the get go but you can upgrade them with humanity. Also, try attacking enemies while falling down on them if you are above them it deals A LOT damage, specially on some bosses. Next thing, use items, do not try to keep them for "later" cuz that is a common rookie mistake, use them if you need them to stay alive. Also, get a death counter pls? It would be fun to have a counter for number of deaths for a whole game and compare it to other gamers like Cohhcarnage for example :D PS. If you do not want this tips or anything just let me know cuz I will write them on every video if I will see you having trouble with something :P

    This is going to be a long ass comment, but I'm gonna try to give as many tips and insight to help you with Dark Souls that the game doesn't tell you: Humans are Undead that have active Humanity in use. Hollows are Undead that have lost their purpose and had their humanity burned away from the Dark Sign making them lose their personality. That's the lore, but what does this mean for gameplay?
    At Bonfires you can "Reverse Hollowing" to do this you need to use a Humanity then sit at the bonfire and choose this option which will make you human. Being human has benefits and demerits. You can ONLY summon NPC's or other players while being Human. While Hollowed you cannot summon nor be summoned, but the benefit to this is you also can't be invaded while being Hollow. You can be invaded by either NPC's or players while Human so be careful.
    "How can I get more Estus flasks I had 10 from Firelink?" Some bonfires have Fire Keepers and these special bonfires such as Firelink and a few others are kindled by the Fire Keepers which means you'll get 10 Estus instead of 5 from them. You can however Kindle any bonfire you find by using 1 Humanity. By doing this you can regain 10 Estus from any bonfire instead of 5, and while your Humanity is limited now later you can farm it from Rats so don't worry too much about using it to kindle bonfires. Oh and having active humanity also increases drop rates from enemies regardless if you're human or hollow.
    To explain your stats, you know Vitality is HP and you know Endurance is your stamina and equip load. A LOT of good armor in DS1 needs you to have like 30+ Endurance and if you don't have that you're rocking leather armors or robes. You know what Strength is as well as Dex, and Faith is literally useless in DS1 unless you want a warp back to bonfire spell or Lightning Spear which isn't worth it since there's an item to warp to bonfires in the Homeward Bone which you'll grow to love the further in the game you progress. Resistance is even more useless DO NOT waste any levels on Resistance you don't get any benefits and should spend levels elsewhere.
    Lastly Attunement is your mana stat. In DS1 and DS2 you have Attunement instead of Mind and rather than having a mana bar you have spell slots and numbered uses for spells, but can buy multiples of spells and stack their number of uses. Oh and Pyromancy is free you don't need any specific stat for Pyromancy and instead make it stronger by upgrading the Pyromancy Flame item used to cast them so if you want a pinch of useful magic Pyromancy is free and fun in both DS1 and DS2.
    My last tip for this episode is to help you get good weapons/builds for the entire game. Zweihander, Claymore, Balder Side Sword. These are the early game GOATS you can easily get and use the entire game and build around. Zweihander is in the Graveyard by firelink (dont fight the skeletons you will only suffer without a divine weapon) and this weapon is for a pure Strength build.
    Claymore is being guarded by the dragon and is ideally for a Quality build (Quality = Dex Strength hybrid), but can be used for Strength or Dex it's a very versatile weapon. Balder Side Sword has to be farmed by Balder Knights that have it here's one that you fought this episode at: 1:04:40 , and it's for Dex builds.

    Dark Souls is haaaard! The enemies and boss fights are a lot simpler than in elden ring but the level design and long distance between bonfires turns it into a slow and deliberate test of endurance and resource management. My only advice: slow down and carefully examine your surroundings more often! There's a lot of really useful stuff hidden away in the less obvious spots.

    This ring would have helped to reveal a small part of the lore and one character.
    A lockpick in the first playthrough can break the magic of exploring the world and the order of exploration.
    A lockpick is good for a speedrun or a second playthrough.
    In general, if you see that you used a lockpick - know that you should have gotten here by another way, and perhaps much later.
    Dark Souls 1 is still my especially beloved game.

    So sad you also took the master key like all the other guys. that's the main reason for me to stop watching most people playing DS1 on UA-cam for the first time.
    The key is ment for second playthroughs only imo and should be locked until people finish the game at least once. To explain my grudge without any spoilers, the key unlocks TOO MUCH.
    And its not because people be like "oh hey now i don't need to play big parts of the game to advance" (which also is true for the key) but mainly because first time players will just get lost.
    I hope you the best for the run but let me just say i was so proud of you for choosing the ring at first. If you wanna get honest advice, if a door unlocks by using the master key take note of it, turn away and come back later if you don't find other ways to go.
    Edit: I also highly recommend you to remap the jump to L3. Having it set to doulbe B was the original controls but the remaster let you use the DS3 controls (pressing L3) instead.

    You can remap the jump button to L3. Jumping doesnt have good s so its better to be able to roll while running (you will always need to be running to jump)
    If you hit light attack while falling you will do a plunging attack for big damage
    You have to use the humanity in your inventory to use it at the bonfire. Humanity on your person will be represented by the number in the top left. Reversing hollowing makes you not beef jerky, allows you to see and interact with summon signs (online features), kindle the bonfire, and be invaded by npc’s with unique drops. Dying will return you to being beef jerky and any humanity on your person will be with your souls on the ground.
    Kindling a bonfire raises how many estus flasks you gain from resting at it up to 20. All bonfires start at 5 except firelink shrine which starts at 10. You need to beat a boss thats considered really easy for an item in one of the other paths you can take out of firelink, but its a hard journey with a long runback.
    Covenants are for online play, different covenants give different rewards when you give them specific items. You can farm these items in game to get the rewards, but it can be tedious without pvp which isnt very active. Switching covenants also takes a portion of your progress away so i would recommend looking into what covenants give you before committing to the grind with chaos servants being the exception for reasons i wont spoil at this point

    You shouldn’t really level any stat past 40, it’s like leveling past 60 in Elden Ring. Also there are no stat respecs so you really have to think about which stat you are leveling up as you can actually waste level ups in this game
    Also, equip load matters a lot more in this game than in Elden Ring. You’ll move slower, jump shorter, and have less I-frames on rolls
