Two superb performers taking it to the limit. In my 72 years, I have heard several shiploads of blues, beginning with my Daddy playing that trumpet when I was but an infant. This is right there. I could not have wanted it any better.
OMG! In my almost 65 years I've seen and heard many of the finest rock/blues artists in the world. Page, Clapton, Stevie Ray, BB King, on and on... WOW Joanne and Joe and Band!!! I can't stop listening.
I saw Joanne opening for Joe B last night. Fantastic set. I think all her own material. Good, toe-tapping blues-based tunes. She's a fine singer and a standout blues player. Catch them together, you'll have a great time. What's more: she can really solo! She doesn't ramble or riff endlessly. Her solos have shape and really go somewhere. Oh. yeah.
Some people say the greatest blues sounds come when feet press against the wall during deuce dropping for leverage, but only if the water is blue to begin with.
Saw Joanne in a pub called The Top Bell, Barton under Neenwood, Burton on Trent in the early 2000's.prior to touring Germany. Brilliant then, brilliant now !!
What an heavenly Pleasure to listen this Arrangement of 1. Class Blues Musicians who given the Blues the weight and lightness to feel the Soul . Love it 💖
So good to see Joanne using her wonderful voice to such good effect. Janis Joplin's version will always be my favourite, but that was then and this is now. Joanne is one of the best guitarists around and good to see that Joe has got her back.
Have you seen the video of Joss Stone doing Janis Joplin’s version of ‘A Piece of My Heart’? (Joss does another great rendition of Adele singing ‘I Put a Spell on You’!) Joss’s take on it is what I consider a better comparison to her than this one. However I absolutely love this one too by Joanne, along with many of her others! Joe B. never fails to astound me with his talent (close to that of B. B. King) too, whether alone or doing a duet with someone else!
@@elainemeyer5062 Yes, Joss is another favourite (for many reasons!) and underappreciated, especially lacking in videos on youtube. I won't try and compere one good singer with another. Beth Hart is top of my charts but don't think she's done a version of this, I may be wrong.
@@chrispy865 We must have the same taste in music! Beth Hart is also one of my favorite, fairly unknown, very talented vocalists! Have you seen the video of her and Joe B. doing ‘I’ll Take Care of You’? This is THE sexiest song/video I’ve ever seen - so far! Beth and Joe have many other videos and entire concerts on YT if you’re interested. I’m not 100% positive, but I think Joss did do Summertime and I found it on YT. BTW: The version of the video I was referring to is the one of Joe and Beth, Live at the Beacon Theater in NYC.
@@elainemeyer5062 I've spent far too many hours on youtube searching Beth and Joe vids, and pretty sure I've seen all and own several of their dvd's and most cd's. My vote however goes to Rather go Blind in Amsterdam, all time favourite after Chicken Shacks 1968 version. So many of my current favourites are women. Beth, JST, Janis, Joss, Imelda May, Larkin Poe, they are all taking music to new and exciting places, and at my advanced age I never thought good music would still be available after the dreadful mainstream dross that seems to have been around the past decade or so.
@@chrispy865 For Chris, I don’t know what you consider as being an ‘advanced’ age, but I’m 67 yrs old and put myself in that category. I was trained as a classical pianist and organist since I was 5, but haven’t been able to play any longer (for a number of years) due to arthritis in my hands and fingers. I enjoy all genres of music (except for rap, which isn’t imo!) and listen from morning till night. Also, I won’t listen to anyone who doesn’t have what I consider to be talent, and AGREE WITH YOU 100% about the awful ‘mainstream’ music that’s around now and has been for a while. I too like the concert with Beth and Joe in Amsterdam the most. I will admit that I’m not familiar with two of the others you mentioned - I will definitely check them out though. It’s a shame that there are so many under appreciated, and very talented musicians that truly deserve more credit and recognition than they have. You said you mostly prefer females, but there are quite a number of male musicians that I feel are just as talented - quite possibly in a different way or reason. I have always been a huge fan of Elton John and Eric Clapton, and having grown up with their music, feel they’ve gotten better with age. (I saw EJ about 5 months ago and bought tic’s for his next final ‘Farewell’ concert this month - the same one but @ a different venue and this time with floor seats, and also for Clapton in Sept.) I searched for the female artists we both like, and was only able to find a concert by JST this fall near me. (I’m going to see Alicia Keys next month too, who you didn’t mention - she did what I consider was a beautiful 2-song duet with John Mayer from Times Square ‘many’ years ago that was very moving and well done by both.) There are others who’s music I can either like or dislike, depending on the song and style of playing/singing. Not knowing what other music you like, I’m very fond of the 2 Cellos (plus Luca/Luka? and Hauser on their own), Mark Knopfler, David Gilmour, Derek Trucks and, of course, solo pianists and other instrumentalists (both classical music and interpretations on more contemporary songs). I’ve kept you long enough with my verbosity and apologize if you found reading my comment boring!
My favorite Janis Joplin song. But when I came across Joeann Shaw play it .I never heard a better version.I hope you play peace of my heart .Your guitar 🎸 is absolutely amazing.
You just can’t say too many good things about this tune. She’s got such a great band and they’re very tight! Having Mr.Bonamassa certainly doesn’t hurt any, does it?
Julie was the first girl I truly fell in love with back in 1966. We were together for 5yrs till we had different roads to follow. I never saw her again till I heard of her passing way too young.
Two great musicians playing one of my favorite songs together, and doing a beautiful job at it! This song by Gershwin (from the musical Porgy and Bess) was one of my most frequently played songs on the piano, when I wasn’t practicing my classical music (I learned this one on my own time), and whenever I hear it I think back to the many years ago when I first learned how to play it (more than 50 years ago!). I can almost picture the ‘deep South’ many years ago when there were large plantations, and the black slaves were working on the cotton fields in the heat of the summer, while the women sipped drinks and talked on the patio, as their husbands were out fishing. Her gritty, raspy and sexy voice in combination with Joe’s dramatic guitar playing adds so much visualization ability to this rendition, imo. Such emotion from both, vocal and instrumental - you can almost feel or picture that you were living during those times! It’s one thing to learn how to read notes and play them on an instrument, or vocalize them, but that doesn’t make them ‘true’ artists in the real sense of the word - that can only be achieved when it’s done with inner feeling and emotion (no matter what type of instrument they play, or the vocals they sing). Having been trained as a classical pianist and organist since I was 5, 62 years ago), I learned at a very young age that this is the biggest difference between playing music and ‘making’ music come to life! These two are perfect examples of what I mean - it’s so noticeable when watching them play this, and other duets together! *** BTW: I’ve always been able to express myself when I played, and never cared about what people thought when they watched me, and this being said, I have to say that Joe looks like he should have been in the ‘Godfather’. The way he’s always dressed in black, with sunglasses, in addition to his expressions while playing! (but that’s just the way he’s able to feel the music he is). Don’t get me wrong, this doesn’t matter to me in the least, and all that does is his talent, but it’s just an observation on my part!
@@kleoutsa1 Thanks for your kind reply! I now have tickets to see JST next month, which I didn’t have when I wrote the original email, and am looking forward to seeing her live!
