Damn, I knew the answer to that second half-million pound question. Of course it's a lot less known of a fact in the UK.
I'm from the UK and on my 19th Birthday I stood inside the head of that lady (er, please don't misunderstand that,) ... and I too did not know the answer. I ought to have been able to answer MY 500K Question, though: Which of these astronauts has never set foot on the moon. But I too declined.
So much more money back then , with inflation it should be a 2 or 3 M grand prize
Bob very clever fella
I always wondered can't the phone a friend just google the answer? like in 30s 10 was spent reading, if u searched while reading u could easily have it searched with 10s left, definitely worth doing for 250k...
Not in 2003 you couldn't. The internet was way too slow back then, and now they have someone with the phone a friend to ensure that they don't cheat.
I think that's the reason you don't see any quiz machines in pubs nowadays either.

Brilliant prize money for back then. Still good today, but in 2003 £250,000 could have bought you a great house. Today it would barely get you a one-bed flat.
Even today, £250,000, is a Massive amount for many people.
For some it would be a life changer not just for themselves but, also for their entire families.
He wasted ask the audience when he knew Newmarket .
Right now, £2,500, is an awfully huge amount for me.
With this amount, I would not only treat my children to some luxuries but, for the first time in life I would spoil myself rotten for a whole month.
But then again, I would probably end up a victim to someone with a sad tale ( normally a relative ) and end up, skint again.
