I grew up and lived in Iowa for35years. While in Iowa I enjoyed backpacking at yrsf, ssf, and preparation canyon. I loved backpacking more than what Iowa could offer for backpacking. That prompted me to move to western NC, so I can backpack, kayak, trout fish etc etc any time I want. Great video, and when I return to visit I might bring the gear and try this place out. In the future, if you want to come out for a GSMNP hike, Art Loeb trail or Linville Gorge Wilderness Area trip lmk, I can either give you some good areas to check out, or join you. Great content

Yes, you guys are sure romantic out there together, LOL. Skinny dipping, I would LOVE to see that too. Beautiful place for sure. I love places where you can camp anywhere. The superpower I wish I had was to be at whatever place I want to hike/backpack in at the snap of a finger... from east to west, south to north.... The dinners looked real yummy too. This hike reminds me a little of southern IN, some really good incline and ravines and stunning forest.

That is so cool, Tim. I grew up just north of Sioux City, and used to run around along the Sioux River when I was a kid. I left in 1976, and haven't done anything outdoors there again. You've brought back memories of the area that gave me a love of the outdoors. Lame superpower -- xray vision, but only through clothes, so everyone looks naked. 😐 I think we need a Western Iowa Long Trail, more or less along the Sioux and Missouri rivers in the surrounding hills! Thanks for the great video!
Cool trip, Tim. It is good to see other areas and what they have to offer for backpacking option. Although not a huge mountain like around here, the trial still looked pretty steep in parts. Iowa? You have been getting around lately. When are you going to make your way out to our neck of the woods? Pretty spiffy trail. Love how you commented about the hill not having any switch backs. We usually make comments like that when there IS a switch back or 2, they're so rare over here. Was that a mole running around? You are totally right about all the romantic things you get up to out on trail. Sunsets, swimming, and then there was that photo shoot you had at the old car on the Superior Trail. That looked like a great night out, and some nice hiking. I'm actually impressed for it being Iowa. Not a place I would think of for great hiking.

Awesome video! Loved the scenery. Looks like the trail was made by people who believe that the shortest distance between two points is a straight line! I still can't believe that I spent 20+ years of my life only 10's of miles away from these places and had no idea they were there. 😃
I spend a week or so in Southern Iowa/ Northern Missouri every Fall and can attest to the fact that there is a lot of natural beauty to be found . Yeah sure, lots of corn and soy beans but the hills, ravines and river bottoms are awesome. Anytime you put your camp on your back and hit the trail it’s a legit backpacking adventure in my opinion. That was a really nice, romantic trip to “No switchback / Brokeback” Hill in beautiful Iowa. Did I go too far ? Just kidding . Good Stuff Tim as always ✌️
Sounds like most trails in GA str8 up and down very limited switch backs just did a loop and side trails abt 15 miles but over 4k elevation mostly up and down
Actually mountain lion sightings in Iowa are becoming more frequent, confirmed sighting in Des Moines last week and we occasionally get bears roaming down from Wisconsin. Mainly in NE Iowa or east central.
@@chrisbrackney7173 I've heard about mountain lions in Iowa! I don't get too freaky about them. If they decide to stalk me, I won't know it until they are on top of me! They aren't known to take food bags from camps either.

Great that you got to use your drone on trail as these shots were awesome. Lame super power but still needed is the super attentive listener. I only hiked the middle 5 miles and there was one small pond (I personally wouldn't filter from it). However, there is a road (138th) halfway through that has a parking area and plenty of spots to stash water. That's my plan for when I get back to hike the entire trail.
Man I didn't know that you could disperse camp in Iowa State Forest. I thought you had to camp at the campsite like they have at Prep canyon and Yellow River. I wished I would have know this 2 weeks ago. I have read that they might try to turn Brent"s Trail into a long distance trail. I really hope they do that. I will have to check that trail out. Not really. A couple of ponds along the way but I would only filter from them if I HAD to. It's pretty easy to stash water on the crossroads that intersect the trail. I have another video that shows them.

(Actually that was my 5 year olds question but i stole it so I'd have a second question.) No ticks. Usually they go away in after a few cold nights, though I don't claim to be an expert. It was an awesome find for me!

@@BackpackingwithBuckley So it's true! Well Bolognese Sauce comes Bologna and proper Bolognese sauce should contain tomatoes, onions, carrots, celery and the the magic ingredient milk for creaminess! If it hasnt got all those, its just pasta meat sauce/.
