I don’t even blame her for how much she downplays herself. The internet is constantly discrediting her and her impact and making her feel like she’s not worth of the massive success she’s had.
@@AntiStraightMaleSociety You gotta be kidding with that shit that Olivia has better music, she ain’t even a better singer as it is. Idgaf, I’m literally only fan of LDR so the rest of these people I don’t have any bias towards. So this an unbiased opinion before you start saying I’m a fan of Billie’s both of their albums became very popular and when they were 17/18. Olivia can write a lot of good lyrics so I’ll give her that, but the music as a whole ain’t better, the vocals even far from being better… She ain’t a bad singer, but y’all treat her like she’s Whitney Houston, tf? 🙄
It’s good to humble yourself from time to time. However, there’s nothing wrong with celebrating your success. It’s not like she has any sinister motives or saying she’s better than everyone. As a fan of Billie, she can acknowledge the people that she respects, but she needs to embrace her achievements. She put in the work and deserves to be celebrated.
Give it time she is young and not seasoned yet, but your right she seems she lacks confidence within herself when she make feats and hides it in her humility. She was one of girls who understood the assignment in this year's Meta Gala
She does have sinister motives as well as all these music artists and celebs they blaspheme God and openly do it. But people like yourself play it off ignore it and try to justify things listen to when the party's over backwards. It's here on youtube
I mean once i encountered cringey (female) fans saying "omg billie, she's so humble unlike other artists bc she doesn't live in a huge mansion and still lives in her own small house, what a humble queen" like when tf living in a huge mansion with the money that you work hard for was being a show off? I mean you worked hard for it. I feel like many people are projecting and envious of others success.
@@waterdog737 Yea same. I feel like she's one of those people who joke about something but actually mean everything they said and it's actually how they feel
@@AntiStraightMaleSociety I think it's more so feeling like they can relate to someone. For example people love Doja cat and most would say they love her way more than they do people like kylie jenner because she's funny, shows that she is human and overall isn't the typical "rich hollywood star". It's the same way people feel more at ease and feel refreshed to see a celeb who's natural and shows off their stretch marks, has no surgery etc. because it makes them go "well this famous person has stretch marks as well and people love them, so maybe having stretch marks isn't that bad."
This is a result of Stan Twitter. When their faves don’t win an award, they’ll send hate to the person who did. This is why if you see celebrities like Billie, Adele, Jon Batiste, and more downplay their achievements during award ceremonies, it’s them trying to come across as humble so the Stans won’t “cancel” them.
her fans are same level of toxic like other fandoms...they also gave hate towards jon batiste & bruno Mars for winning grammy against her...so it's like all are same on stan twitter..u have to look up to ur own fans instead of others
I think she's mentioned her struggle with imposter syndrome in an interview...part of me feels like some of it stems on all the comments people make about how Finneas "carried her career". Also so many people for the longest time have called her overrated, boring, etc. and that stuff gets to you. She is an amazing artist and her work has been consistently good. Her work is being recognized for it's great quality and I hope she starts to feel deserving of it.
Came here looking for this comment!! She says all the things a person with Imposter Syndrome would, it's a real thing and it's genuine, she doesn't understand that her acheivements are well deserved and should also be celebrated
Well remember when Justin Bieber back in 2010 started his music career with "baby" and everyone was hating on him, calling him "gay", sings like a girl, lesbian haircut etc. but Justin turn out to be the most famous celebrity. not to mention many guys copy his style and also girls💀 lmao
@@AntiStraightMaleSociety is it just me or really good looking talented guys are hated by straight males like justin (even though i dont fund him attractive but he is), one direction ,nsync and bts
Billie a people please ? I don’t think so . Nothing Billie does is to please anyone . Her art her sense of style , what she says when she says it .. how she goes about her life .. nothing . That’s exactly why she’s so famous . That’s exactly why she’s loved so much and deservingly so . I’m 46 years old and she’s my favorite artist of All time and I’m so glad my kids are growing up in her and her brothers Era.
It’s kinda funny. You’ve got music starts who absolutely will let the fame and success inflate their egos to ridiculous levels… and then you got Billie doing the exact opposite. I wonder if it’s a coping mechanism to prevent exactly that. Not the best mechanism by any means, so I hope she realizes she does deserve a good amount of the accolades she’s earned
@@facethebass you don't really know how a celeb is. the media + the celeb's team play a big role in what you think of them. Her humility is definitely a strategy - and I don't mean it badly, like you said all celebs have teams with their own strategies. just keep in mind it has usually nothing to do with what the person really is
@Just Another Person never said the was a bad person. I said don't believe everything you see because it's an industry above all. You can be a proud person without being a bad person btw. Does she pay your bills?
@@Azarath_Metrion_Zinthos no celebrity wants to be seen as self-centered or ego-inflated, public image plays a big role in it, given the background billie has, i think her attitude towards it makes sense, she never struggled as an artist, and got signed even before releasing her first song ocean eyes thanks to the connections of her brother and parents, she obviously wants to be seen as this grounded down to earth person that's the common ideal of authenticity, and desperately downplaying herself is part of it.
The internet been bullying and hating on this girl for simply being more successful than their fave for years.i mean i don't blame her at all for feeling this way
not really, other artists go through a lot worse. im not justifying any type of hate towards anyone, but she has a good support system. she’s equipped to pick herself up, and she’s smart enough to brush it off
I feel like she doesn’t see herself as she is. Worthy, and talented. I feel like she’s still in denial of her fame, and sees herself next to people she’s a fan of, and thinks she can’t compare, and isn’t deserving of being next to them in the first place. The media puts stars on such a pedestal, it feels like she sees them as more than they are, and views herself as less than she is because of it.
You are missing the point! No one is more special. We all human. We all the same. She is next to people she's a fan of, and she is like everyone else. *we are the same*. There is no such a thing as famous = better.
In a world where people enjoy and fester in misery and constantly criticise her music and say it’s for the fake depressed (for the ‘not like other girls’) - can you blame her? When she won all those Grammys and went to accept her Brit Award, during her speech she said she felt so hated, so it’s not surprising if she overthinks whether she is good enough. :(
I think she felt sort of pressure to “apologise” when she won the Grammys because she got so much hate from Twitter Stans, so she it’s like she wanted to “go with the flow” or something.
I've seen Billie live a few times now. The way she commands the stage and controls the crowd at her shows is unreal, but I saw her at weekend 2 of Coachella a couple weeks back and the way she talked to the crowd in between sets was almost like she was seeking validation and didn't believe she deserved to be there. The week prior she apologized for not being Beyonce. She was in her element when performing her songs, but her banter in between songs is usually a highlight, but it felt really off at Coachella and it made me really sad because it felt like she doubted herself instead of owning the moment like she usually does.
Billie Eilish fame really surprised her, I mean she barely thought she'd live beyond 18yo. So to be so successful while living beyond depression at this young age can be overwhelming and really heavy but with age she'll get used it and accept herself and people will understand too, hopefully ❤️
I think it’s likely that this is just her personality, but even if it isn’t and she’s doing this on purpose to appear likable and humble I would honestly still understand it because people are ruthless especially to her and if she were to confidently acknowledge and accept her awards and success she would probably immediately get written off as bitchy and self absorbed
I don’t mind if artists are humble tbh. Maybe they really think someone else deserved the award. We all have opinions about who deserved what. But I think people should also embrace winning and not be mean or snotty about it.
@yin yin EXACTLY!! People might act like they want Eilish to be more "accepting of her own success" and to "stop downplaying it", but we know damn well that if she _wasn't_ acting humble and self-deprecating, maybe not going so far as to outright say "I deserve this! I *am* the greatest!", but at the very least saying something like, "I'm so glad you chose me for this award! I really worked hard on this album, and it's nice to feel appreciated because it resonated with so many people!", the public *would* ABSOLUTELY be tearing her down and writing big, pretentious thinkpieces and video essays about how "self-absorbed", and "arrogant" she was and would either be calling her a narcissist or a "Nepo Baby". Folks might hate Eilish putting herself down, but they *really* hate confident, self-assured women even more! (And it gets worse for women farther away from White Desirability.) Society, especially cishet dudes, are completely obsessed with being the ones to grant self-confidence and meaning to women because it gives these dudes purpose. If a woman already knows she's great and talented, "Well fuck her! She was always a stuck-up bitch anyway!"
billie said that about beyoncé bc everyone kept tweeting and saying billie shouldn’t b headlining and that beyoncé should instead. that’s why she said that.
@Day this was before she was actually headlining the day of..obviously. it’s when it was announced months ago she would b headlining. didn’t kno critical thinking had to be used
@Day not rly. still relevant imo. i could only imagine how stoked i’d be to headline coachella then constantly hear ppl saying i don’t deserve it & it should definitely be someone else. no wonder Billie and so many other artists think so low of themselves 😔
The way i see it, Billie already has gotten "cancelled" by the internet (OH NO- anyways....) a BUNCH while being one of the most unproblematic celebs of her success and stature ESPECIALLY at that young of an age. So to me it seems like there are people clearly waiting for Billie to "mess up" so that they can make a big deal out of it. So far she has given them so little that they literally make an issue out of nothing yet they still manage to impact the way public perception (people who don't listen to her) view her. "She is fake depressed" , "she is queer baiting" , "she is fat shaming" , "she is shaming people who have had plastic surgery" , "She shaded hip hop , she is racist" , "She attacked Travis Scott" and a bunch of other bullshit that where literally created out of nothing to target her. Billie being a child of the internet and having grown up in this culture is VERY MUCH aware of this. So she knows that when she gets all the attention for anything and "overshadows" some fanbases favorite artists they are going to jump right back on the hate wheel and find new reasons to attack her image again. So, imo this is both a defense mechanism and probably imposter syndrome combined into one. As a fan of Billie i personally believe that she is confident in herself, i also believe that she has an ego (like most artists do, especially about their art) so i do think that she is overplaying the "humble" card as a defense mechanism for the very valid reasons i mentioned above. I also however can tell that Billie has a genuine love for music, artistry and other artists, so i also do believe that she is being genuine in bigging up Ariana , Meg, Beyonce and so many other artists and people she has regularly fawned over but best believe she definitely also thinks that she deserves the success she has had. At least that's my opinion.
I blame this on stan culture, remember how Doja won her first Grammy this year and the BTS stans sent her hate and death threats for it? FOR WHAT?! Winning an award that she deserved?
exactly like i’m all for supporting people that u like but sometimes people take it too far, especially since these people don’t even know u personally and they compromise their morals and say messed up stuff to defend them. parasocial relationships are no joke.

She’s a people pleaser so she feels like she has to stop giving herself flowers to pass them on to someone else but I do truly hope she can live in her own happiness for once
She is very young still, and I'm sure the backlash has a huge impact on how she sees her success. I do think she is purposely trying a "stay humble" attitude because no matter what, people will say she doesn't deserve her success. Taylor and Adele did it to try and deal with haters too.
as much as I’ve grown to like billie eilish’s music i rolled my eyes at her dedicating her roty award to Megan. the “you deserve it not me 🥺” if you really felt like that you wouldn’t be submitting your stuff in the first place.
right.. it was so weird. I think when she said it to Ariana Grande it was more tasteful and it seemed brief and sweet. But when she did that to Megan, it sorta crossed a line. she should’ve just accepted the award . A shoutout is fine, but jesus, if i was megan i would’ve felt somewhat awkward and embarrassed.
@@jimbob2427 “apparently artists can’t speak their mind, according to you” oh come on, that is not what i said. There is a time and a place. Like i said, a shoutout is fine. But putting all the spotlight on someone who didn’t win and showering them with compliments in front of everyone during your acceptance speech, can make that person feel very awkward. I’m sure when an artist doesnt win something they don’t necessarily want people calling attention to them during that moment of loss, and that’s exactly what Billie did. If she felt that she didn’t deserve it, that’s fine, but those are internal feelings that she needs to work through. She shouldn’t just deflect all the attention onto another unsuspecting artist every time she has to accept an award; it’s bad form.
@@jennav2063 I don't think this is being humble, it's just self-sabotage. There was a name for people like this, but I can't remember. She needs to go to therapy, actually. I don't think she wasn't mostly humble at some point. Plus, nobody is 100%. That doesn't exist
Finneas was PISSED when Billie said Ariana deserved Abum of the year and basically downpleayed their record...he went and said: we talked about depression and climate change in this album! I think Finneas was right to at least say something
She did not tho? She has been singing since she was 9 i think and was 14 when she recorded ocean eyes. She made an entire EP at 15. I remember her music already having a few millions views before bad guy blew up. She had already gained popularity on the internet over the years, even tho it's true finneas career and her connections probably helped her her success wasn't overnight
@@jimbob2427 bruh me too. Did you read what i just said ? I just explained it : her rise to stardom in 2019 wasn't overnight, because she was already quite famous before that, had millions of views on her mvs, and had been performing since she was 15. It was only a continuation of her success.
I think it also has something to do with that she knows there’s a sensitivity around race in the larger context of cultural issues. She might be thinking, “Oh no, yet another white person winning an award when there are plenty of other non-white artists that deserve awards. And there has been clear issues around race related to the Grammys and Oscars lately.” This was my thinking when she downplayed herself. Happy to hear other thoughts though.
i understand why she says that stuff, given her age and the fact that it's easy for someone in her position to become insecure but i hope eventually she stops thinking she's inferior to those other artists
I hope she feels more confident in her work bc she’s talented I mean look at the way Jack Harlow hypes himself up even if no one else believes it and he hasn’t reached her level of success
another thing is that people always think it's so awesome when you're on top of the world and everyone gets jealous, but when they see it's not all sunshine and rainbows, then people stop getting emotional and heated.
I think she's trying to avoid becoming another Mcklemore. She knows that people like Beyonce and Kendrik Lamar deserve awards, but they usually get anubed. Now Billie, a white girl, was able to win in so many situations, at such a young age, while musicians if color never get the same ammount of recognition... she knows it isn't just about talent. And that makes her feel unsure of herself, and scared of coming under fire for winning when people of color are competing in the same categories. That's how I see the situation.
I mean that's fair, but I also haven't had a Beyonce song in my playlist since Halo.. I know Beyonce has been an industry giant but I honestly don't see the same amount of hype around her as we used to and personally I haven't been interested in her music anymore for years. People like what's new and different, someone who's been in the industry for so long is obviously a great artist but the Grammy's tend to award songs or albums that get the most hype and the most hype tends to be around something new and exciting or something highly anticipated. Billie is young and it seems she compares herself too much to older more experienced artists and she might also feel that there are black artists more deserving in certain instances but it's not really her fight to fight because she'll always be considered to be privileged whether she says something about it or not. It might be in her best interest to not look at opinions and outrage online, because when you feel targeted you'll feel a need to either defend yourself or to make yourself small in order to evade criticism. I personally also think it's a bit ridiculous that she won that many Grammy's that year instead of other artists but that's not her fault and she shouldn't take responsibility for other people's choices.
Taking someone else personal situation to bring up race. When black and white folks are the most awarded out the entire human race if we being real. This is how you feel not how she feel. You feel like Beyoncé and Kendrick deserves awards everybody don’t feel like that. Beyoncé got almost 20 Grammies nothing is ever good enough for y’all.
What’s the big deal if she win over a poc? Why is that relevant? Nobody should be scared of coming under fire for winning a award each category only has one winner. You either win or you don’t. That’s it at least you got recognition and they even thought to put you in the category. Awards don’t make you or determine your talent and success. I don’t see white folks complaining about not winning a BET award. But y’all want these award show own by white folks to favor poc (mostly black cause the others don’t get love) make it make sense.
i think it’s because artists within the industry no longer view their peers as competitors these days. everyone across the board is obsessed w being friends w each other which IS great for unity, but because there’s a lack of competition on who’s the better artist there’s no drive. there’s no hunger. they don’t want to overshadow their friends. miss Mariah was THE queen of doing the absolute most whenever she had to share the stage w other vocalists, can we please go back to that?? she unapologetically knew she was that girl and wasn’t afraid to show it.
I was so sad for Billie when she said she was sorry she wasn’t Beyoncé! I had just finished watching and rocking out to her entire show on UA-cam, I am so proud that she headlined the festival and I was blow away that she just pulled the carpet right under her feet after finishing a big accomplishment. I also thought I hope no one that’s worth listening to said that she shouldn’t be headlining. My heart sank at that moment for her. I hope that will be the very last time she does that to herself. She works so hard and is so talented. This was a great piece of work thank you the great feature!
I don't think it's Billie being insecure, I simply think she's trying to avoid Twitter troll hate so she says it before they do so that no one comes for her.
I've done that... I opened for someone I admire once. The guy saw me perform one of my songs one day and got totally hooked on my stuff and asked me to open one of his shows. Long story short, I did the show, it was an amazing experience and yes I was downplaying myself the whole thing in front of an audience that didn't know me at all. I got amazing feedback from everyone but it was very depressing. I was even invited to play some more show down there (this was in Puerto Rico) but I live in NYC and it would've been a bit difficult for me at the time. At the time I was struggling with depression and had very low self-esteem. That stuff messes with your head. Most of my music is unreleased for that reason. She's probably struggling with some kind of mental illness herself that affects her self-esteem.
humbling herself is one thing and acknowledging who she believe should win is fine, but it starts to seem ingenuine when you keep doing it. Personally I think if she feels like she's really don't deserve something she should advocate in the rooms where change can happen for these artist (as well as other artist who does this). I think she deserves most of the accolades she gets cause she does produce really good bodies of work. She do need to understand humility doesn't mean you can't be proud of your work. It's defiantly a balance she needs to find.
There’s a difference between an artist minimizing themselves, and an artist minimizing their music. Once they minimize their music- to people her support her, to people who wish to be as famous as her music, it looks like she’s taking her success for granted. Why be an artist and have all these supporters if you’re not happy. Like Michael Jackson, he was very humble. But he understood the power of him and his music. Definition of insanity is doing something over and over again and expecting a different result. What result is she expecting from downplaying herself? I understand that she may not have wanted the backlash Macklemore had though when it came to the Grammy’s. But after the first time you win, wouldn’t you think you’re doing something right with all those accolades piling up? She deserves to soak it up. It may be short term, long term. Either way I hope she finds a better way to cope with her imposter syndrome and not let her self doubt be a self fulfilling prophecy.
i think it'd be remiss not to mention how self-deprecation is a key characteristic of gen z, namely because 1.) we grew up with the internet, particularly as it morphed into the often toxic and violent behemoth it is now 1a.) platforms like tiktok, tumblr, and youtube have celebrated and romanticized self-deprecation via popular content creators who routinely modeled such behavior for their followers 1b.) it's hard to feel special or worthy when our feeds are streamlined deliverers of other people's beauty, wealth, talent, and accomplishments 2.) we've been exposed to way higher amounts of primary and secondary trauma due to spikes in violence and increased reporting of said violence, the latter of which is a direct result of the 24-hour news cycle and, you guessed it, the internet/social media 3.) we have the highest rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental illness, all significantly contributed to by the aforementioned, that often self-deprecating narratives/cognitive distortions about ourselves it's one of my least favorite parts of being a zoomer, but it's an important reality consisting of really heavy moving parts we must contend with. and seeing how big of a deal it is in general zoomer culture, it absolutely makes sense that billie might identify in some way with it.
I think she’s just preparing herself and everyone else for the hate that will eventually come. In social media people are more quick to bash someone than praise and the bashing comments are probably the first ones she sees. And the metal preparation of you can’t say anything as bad as I’ve already said about myself
Billie made reference to hating that people assume she’s dark because of her music and claiming she’s actually really happy as a person. But I also think it’s hard for someone with low self esteem to admit it - especially when they seem to have an amazing life, they don’t want to look ungrateful
I feel like me and eilish are in the same predicament. I think I’m too humble and too unaware of what I can truly accomplish. I praise others even if I don’t receive anything in return. I like being humble but other people take advantage of that 🙁
I get the Award thing like “oh I really think Megan deserves…” but Coachella, she could’ve just declined the invitation if she really thinks “I’m not headline material” it kinda sounds fake…
I get where shes coming from. Its hard to take credit for yourself when your so used to telling yourself you aint shit. Id probably do the same shit in her situation tbh
My only issue is she only tends to say she doesn’t deserve awards or accolades AFTER she’s reaped the benefits. If she actually cared about keeping things fair and deserving then she should remove herself from nominations like Drake has or opt out of performing like other artists do if she truly feels like she’s not ready.
I hope she doesn't tbh, at least not in a near future, considering her age and quick rise to stardom. To me its such a smart move in the stan/hateful era we're in. Considering the use of irony at most times she does it, we'll never know if what she expresses it's how she really feels and/or if it's the only way she feels. Finally, I don't see this "topic" as an issue at all. It's just part of her personality and public persona. Some (A LOT I may say) sell self-empowerment and "girl bossness" - so it's refreshing to see some awkardness and modesty. The recognition from fans, the critic acclamation and the awards speak for itself.
It's giving manufactured altruism, it's giving fake modesty like... Ok at some point this behaviour is either a strategic ploy to get people to go 'noOOoo you _do_ deserve an award Billieeee, you're soo talenteeeed!' or a legitimate self worth issue she has to resolve with herself. Regardless it's getting a little irritating and honestly would be less fuss if she just accepted the damn award with dignity. Respectfully thanks those she cares for, acknowledges how far she's come and move on. Not throwing others a hollow, lowkey patronising shoutout 👀

i personally think this was unnecessary she does praise herself and is clearly greatful. with that being said this video to me i feel like could of been said simply in a tweet. its not really a big topic to discuss or an important one. she praises herself but she ofc also downplays herself. nothing wrong with that she just likes to show her appreciation to other artist
Billie is just gratful for everythung and there's absolutly nothing wrong with her showing respect to artists in a such a loving way its actually nice to see that
She doesn’t have any confidence on herself and that’s something she will have to work on, yes or yes. She’s only 20, there’s a lot of room for grow in every aspect, but she needs to start ASAP.
ppl have been downplaying her career for years even before she got popular, telling her tht she doesn’t deserve any of the success she gets constantly but then attack her once she agrees with them, like yall made this girl insecure and it fucking sucks when ur being told tht u dont deserves anything when u worked ur ass off for it, getting told tht constantly, it’s obvious tht thts gonna stick with you and change ur mindset. she truly deserves a lot of the accolades she’s gotten n hopefully she can recognize tht her success is truly deserved.
Maybe if people stop taking celebrities and fame so seriously, Stan Twitter will disappear and Billie could live comfortably. Along with all other celebs
I think other people should try harder if they deserve it. I'm with Billie - no idea how she got so many awards with her lackluster and sometimes bad to listen to songs. She was great at Coachella, but that doesn't translate to awards. Maybe it's because she's extremely self-made that is what the awards shows picked up on?
On the Beyonce comment, I think Billie said that simply because we all see how every Coachella headliner since Beychella gets compared to B. That was a humorous stab at that premise. On the Meg comment, Finneas has said in other interviews that they genuinely thought Meg would win that year. So her making her speech about Meg was her genuinely expressing what she thought. I'm guessing the Ari moment was similar too. Billie has grown so much to love her stuff, and you can tell she enjoys her music, but you can also tell she's a fan, and I don't think it's too much of a drag for her to share some of her spotlight by honestly fangirling
she'd be torn apart if she gave herself credit for how truly talented she is. people despise her for how successful and good she is, so any opportunity they get to tear her apart they jump on it. it's quite disheartening to see.
I'm not a fan of hers tbh but over time i came to appreciate her downplaying self, especially now that we live in this all-attitude-swag era where the main goal of pop artists is to flaunt something, especially women are becoming, at least in the pop industry, almost forced to appear "too much" if that makes sense, in a way or another...think of Lorde and Cardi B, one forcing this "elevated" persona now and the other going with an "over" everything attitude, Billie looks very natural, very...herself, like she's doing what she does cause first of all she enjoys it but yeah...i do agree she should, at some point, give herself more credit.
It's actually refreshing to see a capable gal being humble while some crap 'singers' act like they are the bee's knees. She's genuinely kind and is a fan of others in her arena and happily acknowledges it. She's good at what she does and there's a lot more coming. There are always dualities so we don't exactly know but from what we do get in the social realms, she's a decent person and that's already a great start.
I think she knows some of the awards she gets are bullshit tbh. For example, the Grammys the one year nominated Ariana for about 7 or 8 Grammys and Billie sweep every category leaving Ariana with nothing was a slap in her face. Thank You Next was era. The truth is the Grammys are based on likability and it’s obvious Billie is one of there favorites which she knows. She’s still talented and she shouldn’t downplay herself. The “you deserve this and not me” speeches are starting to become cringy.
It’s my understanding that she doesn’t actually create, her brothers does. She obviously does a wonderful job of delivering, but maybe she’s also very cognizant that she is presenting and not producing?
She co-writes every song of her with finneas the only song finneas wrote on his on was ocean eyes and when the party’s over and when it comes to production most of artists don’t produce it on there own she also directs her music videos
i mean the way people were hating on her for winning was obscene , imagine having ariana’s fan base , bts’s fan base ( the craziest ) lanas fan base and the swifties attacking you on social media because their fave didn’t win , it wasn’t right and if their idol seen what they said they would want them to stop 😵💫
She has depression pretty bad. I'm depressed and I don't think I deserve so many things in my life... and I don’t have 50 million fans. If I was her, I wouldn't feel like I deserved fame either.
I think this makes her even more real and relatable. Let's be honest.. a lot of her fans would've likely done the same. She probably NEVER thought she'd be this famous so being a little unequipped does make sense.
Billie was a media favourite long before her music even dropped due to being an online sensation. I personally find this self deprecating behaviour at every occasion attention seeking. She has had too much success and attention to still be doing this unless she is the industry plant that people initially said she was. The Glastonbury situation for instance... she did not have to accept the offer to preform, but she did only to then give a pity part about not being worthy... you could've stayed home.
You haven’t been on the internet for the longest time and i can see that. First of all, she was NOT a media favourite at all. There are still articles about her weight, success, etc. Second, it was never her choice to perform at the glastonbury. It was the labels. Why are you acting like celebrities life’s and ours life’s are the same? Theyre all somehow is controlled by their label. Third, your comment is kinda giving me “she faked her depression” vibes, which is fucked up btw. Fourth, you’re acting like celebrities are not real humans with real emotions. Anybody can be insecure
@@harithdanial225 Little boy pipe down. What you're not going to do is start your think piece with a poor attempt at shade. As for what you assumed my comment is giving, it's giving what I said, nothing more and nothing less. Further more! And let me add, who told you that the label forced her to play at Glastonbury? Please link the article where she or someone states this because I think I missed it. And, What are you talking about by stating that "our lives and celebrities lives are not the same" Then saying "I'm acting as if celebrities are not human" you're pretty much contradicting yourself. You can stand for Billie, but I do not have to feel the same way.
@@sandraboyce4817 it’s literally a common knowledge. If she refused to perform to glastonbury, it won’t benefit the label. The label always think about themselves, THAT is a common knowledge. And i stand by what i said, celebrities life’s and ours life’s are not the same. It’s incomparable. I bet you too going to be insecure if millions of people telling you don’t deserve shit.
I think it’s very smart on her behalf to do so. She’s really young n has a long career ahead of her, she can in time talk about it as she grows older n then claim it. Doing it initially will cause issues in her growth. It’s a lot what she achieved in such a young age, ppl wait ages to even get nominated. N there’s nothing she needs to prove she’s getting more than she hoped for. Academy is hers, coachella is hers, she selling records she’s doing it in her terms, she really doesn’t need to say a word rn.
So her insecurities are an “annoyance”? I’m sorry, but being a pop star is just half of who she is. She’s a fucking human, and really just a kid, and she is allowed to be like the everyone else. We need to stop holding celebrities to such high god-like standards and unreasonable criticism-this is EXACTLY what makes Hollywood “toxic,” not the crazy managers or whatever, but the attitude of the general public. Its all about “pleasing the [greedy] audience” who care about nothing more than their own entertainment.
she does this because she knows she’ll receive hate, but once she’s happy and acknowledges her success people STILL come for her. she will NEVER win. people will always come for her either way which sucks.
yeah so it's definitely important to be mentally prepared for fame if you're looking to achieve that or live that lifestyle otherwise, it wouldn't be that good of an experience and will feel like hell due to a lot of things.
Honestly she probably downplays herself because she probably didn’t think she’d get so successful so quick so it’s probably just so overwhelming for her
If I'm being honest I don't think she should've headlined Coachella... is she talented? Yes, but she needs at least another album or two to be able to have done what she did.
@Shock System I can include Harry in the same category as well if we're going the same route. Keep in mind Kanye West was the original 3rd co-headliner. Swedish House Mafia and The Weeknd more than deserve to headline the 3rd day they are both legends in their own right when it comes to their own genres of music and the music industry in general. Im not saying Harry and Billie aren't talented. What I'm saying is that neither of them belong being on top of their bill for their respective days. Opening up or playing before the actual headliner? Absolutely.
Her “humble personality” can look fake sometimes. I unfollowed her on Instagram because she was always sharing the same photos on her story. Like, you have over ten million followers, people like you. You don’t owe everyone who loved your dress for the met gala a mention.
we all should know that she’s not the most invincible person in the music industry. stan twitter is a very toxic environment, mostly for singers. so Billie is trying not to easily get hate. and the way how most people criticize her for that is just devastating because most people aren’t putting her mental health first in any way. they just see her as an object to entertain people evrey day, not a human being that actually has feelings
She portrays the problem many people have with uprising artists like her, who dive high into the stars. Hype is wrong to people. Everyone wants to have their "own" thing. Their "Own" artist, their "Own" series, their "own" ... If someome is as successful as Billie then it suddenly isn't good or deserving enough, because they get the fame. I don't really understand that. Everything has to be criticized 'till it's gone. Kind of sad.
so she is just very self conscious and insecure....well I am as well, I dont think that we need to bring her down because of that, its very hard to be confident all the time
I guess she is just not able to deal with fame. It must be overwhelming for her.. From 2017-2018 was the time when she grew tremendous and was being recognised by popular artists. After this we can see her songs being more in depth with mental health issues. In interviews also she is quite hesitant to take credits. I guess this happens when you recieve sudden fame and success.
She should stop downplaying herself but her clean swept at the grammy against NFR for AOTY and Bad Guy winning over Taylor's lover for SOTY are truly undeserved tho. Not her fault but she peaked too early at debut and that's not a good sign.
I don’t think she thinks she doesn’t deserve her awards but like awards like the Grammys I feel like she knows sometimes she will win a Grammy just cuz she’s popular and not cuz her song was better then the other artists or having a better year with a song and I think it’s also different making the songs and getting awards for it when u don’t think you urself as a artist of the song think the songs better then other artist to win a award compared to us outside people not making the song not being there for the process or writing the songs we are listening and we want our faves to win the award because we ourselves think it’s the best song hope that made sense
If she really thought so why not reject the award?! Or walk away from whatever it is she downplays herself in & praises another artist for. This is performative humbleness at it’s peak cause if u were about it you’d actually do it and if not just stfu and embrace ur privileges 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️
It’s kinda comes off fake and trying to be on the good side of the other fandoms, she deserves what she’s done and the wins she has. But the Obviously it’s just confidence that as a young woman in the industry is always tested so I guess with age she will get used to it

I mean you worked hard for it. I feel like many people are projecting and envious of others success.
@@waterdog737 Yea same. I feel like she's one of those people who joke about something but actually mean everything they said and it's actually how they feel

This is why if you see celebrities like Billie, Adele, Jon Batiste, and more downplay their achievements during award ceremonies, it’s them trying to come across as humble so the Stans won’t “cancel” them.
that is true but in this case i think it's just self doubt
Pretty sure this isn't mainly caused by Stan Twitter.
Has this been confirmed, or is it just your theory?
I think Billie/Jon did this but tbh I think Adele just genuinely thought Beyoncé deserved album of the year.

I think she's mentioned her struggle with imposter syndrome in an interview...part of me feels like some of it stems on all the comments people make about how Finneas "carried her career". The media puts stars on such a pedestal, it feels like she sees them as more than they are, and views herself as less than she is because of it.

I think she felt sort of pressure to “apologise” when she won the Grammys because she got so much hate from Twitter Stans, so she it’s like she wanted to “go with the flow” or something.
the worst part is people are now hating on her for it because they think she's being fake. she'll never win
Because there was loads of hate before saying she shouldn’t have headlined coachella
Billie has her own style. I hope she one days sees her value. She don’t need to compare herself to others because she’s at her own lane.
But I think people should also embrace winning and not be mean or snotty about it.
isnt it so stupid that female artists are considered bItcHy for just being confident like wtf. are culture is so weird. she doesnt have to be humble.
Hmmm 🤔

Y’all always making every situation about race. Everybody don’t fret about race 24/7 like y’all do.

Mariah was the most humble when she was on stage with other vocalists through both choice and ability.

Mariah almost had the same “I don’t deserve this” attitude in the 90s so don’t use her if you don’t know her ☠️
@@Solo-vh9fm i would say it's Shania Twain, but then again everybody sees that differently
@@minukarodrigo well I meant out of the divas (I wasn’t just referring to that concert btw)
Either way I hope she finds a better way to cope with her imposter syndrome and not let her self doubt be a self fulfilling prophecy.
i think it'd be remiss not to mention how self-deprecation is a key characteristic of gen z, namely because
1.) we grew up with the internet, particularly as it morphed into the often toxic and violent behemoth it is now
1a.) platforms like tiktok, tumblr, and youtube have celebrated and romanticized self-deprecation via popular content creators who routinely modeled such behavior for their followers
1b.) it's hard to feel special or worthy when our feeds are streamlined deliverers of other people's beauty, wealth, talent, and accomplishments
2.) we've been exposed to way higher amounts of primary and secondary trauma due to spikes in violence and increased reporting of said violence, the latter of which is a direct result of the 24-hour news cycle and, you guessed it, the internet/social media
3.) we have the highest rates of anxiety, depression, and other mental illness, all significantly contributed to by the aforementioned, that often self-deprecating narratives/cognitive distortions about ourselves
it's one of my least favorite parts of being a zoomer, but it's an important reality consisting of really heavy moving parts we must contend with. and seeing how big of a deal it is in general zoomer culture, it absolutely makes sense that billie might identify in some way with it.
I think she’s just preparing herself and everyone else for the hate that will eventually come. In social media people are more quick to bash someone than praise and the bashing comments are probably the first ones she sees. And the metal preparation of you can’t say anything as bad as I’ve already said about myself
I wish more artists would have as much sincere humility as Billie. I hope she never changes that.
She's so kind hearted. But people/fan's choice is important. So yeah, she gotta feel that she did deserve everything.
I like being humble but other people take advantage of that 🙁
This is the most realest and most relatable comment I’ve seen in forever. This is literally me..
I get the Award thing like “oh I really think Megan deserves…” but Coachella, she could’ve just declined the invitation if she really thinks “I’m not headline material” it kinda sounds fake…
over humbleness is bullshit. We see through it billie. Just enjoy the ride
I get where shes coming from. Its hard to take credit for yourself when your so used to telling yourself you aint shit. Id probably do the same shit in her situation tbh
i think it’s human nature to downplay your success… especially if you’ve already openly admitted having insecurities
The only issue is you hear her only at award ceremonies. Have you seen her Instagram posts when she was 12? She was always like that.
people sometimes feel they don't deserve something - as they feel they can be better. So maybe one day she'll be better and feel she deserves it.
I honestly think it's all very performative 🤷🏽♀️ .
A lot of celebrities are people pleasers but a lot of normal people like us too. don't blame her for that
I sure hope so cause it can be sad to see especially with how talented she is
Hopefully not. Our culture is awash in narcissism and Billie represents a welcome break from it all.
Oufffff!!!

i personally think this was unnecessary she does praise herself and is clearly greatful. with that being said this video to me i feel like could of been said simply in a tweet. its not really a big topic to discuss or an important one. she praises herself but she ofc also downplays herself. nothing wrong with that she just likes to show her appreciation to other artist
i just dont thinkw e should excpect her to only be confident and self praise herself its tacky sometimes
YOU DESERVE YOU'RE FLOWERS SIS
billie is queen imo she is allowed to express herself in a weird way this music is for people who are there own weird
I love how humble and genuinely sweet she is. But I know she deserves it all in the end! She’s an amazingly talented person.
If a 1950s singer jumped into a time machine…. She’s amazing
Rosemary Clooney would be cancelled so fast in the 2020s for appropriating Italian culture and cheating on her fiance.
Im not a crazy billy fan or anything, but this is just WRONG
If I rose to that amount of fame quickly I would have felt and done the same things she did.
she does this because she knows she’ll receive hate, but once she’s happy and acknowledges her success people STILL come for her. she will NEVER win. people will always come for her either way which sucks.
yeah so it's definitely important to be mentally prepared for fame if you're looking to achieve that or live that lifestyle otherwise, it wouldn't be that good of an experience and will feel like hell due to a lot of things.
NFR deserves the grammy… it was voted best album of the year by almost every musical experts
yet billie still won. Now what?
What is that?
poor girl can't get a break 😂 y'all will damn her for anything literally, this is why she downplays lol
idk man, just feels like a situation of "Damned if you do, Damned if you don't."
Honestly she probably downplays herself because she probably didn’t think she’d get so successful so quick so it’s probably just so overwhelming for her
I personally see nothing rong with people being humble. At least if it’s genuine. I think the world could do with some more humility
It’s a result of her donning costume black girl clothes and nails and winnning in categories over people who are being themselves for real
we all should know that she’s not the most invincible person in the music industry. stan twitter is a very toxic environment, mostly for singers. so Billie is trying not to easily get hate. and the way how most people criticize her for that is just devastating because most people aren’t putting her mental health first in any way. they just see her as an object to entertain people evrey day, not a human being that actually has feelings
she will. she’s still very young.
Yes, it's hard to fathom her success if you're always a loser.
she deserved all these awards and its irritates me that she thinks she is not as good or as important as she is
I don’t think she thinks she doesn’t deserve her awards but like awards like the Grammys I feel like she knows sometimes she will win a Grammy just cuz she’s popular and not cuz her song was better then the other artists or having a better year with a song and I think it’s also different making the songs and getting awards for it when u don’t think you urself as a artist of the song think the songs better then other artist to win a award compared to us outside people not making the song not being there for the process or writing the songs we are listening and we want our faves to win the award because we ourselves think it’s the best song hope that made sense
If she really thought so why not reject the award?! Or walk away from whatever it is she downplays herself in & praises another artist for.
