    The glass in CRTs is impregnated with lead to prevent the escape of xrays. It's not possible to separate the lead from the glass afterwards. This is a main reasion why CRTs are not recycleable, and pose such a health risk to living creatures the size of humans. It would only take a fraction of the amount of lead contaminating the water to cause the same health risks to a creature the size of a fish. If you care for the health of your pets, please find a safer enclosure for them.

    Not discharging the CRT before removing the anode cap is a good way to learn what 20,000 volts feels like. What's next, cutting glass barefoot? Oh, wait...

    it would be a safe DIY project if you would heat up plexiglass and melt it over the glass tube, replicating its shape.

    • @ThaiGardenOasis
      @ThaiGardenOasis 3 роки тому

      Interesting, can you explain how to do that please?

    • @DemeDemetre
      @DemeDemetre 3 роки тому +1

      @@ThaiGardenOasis basically, just take apart the tv, get the tube (glass screen), make a holder thing to make it stand up vertically (the screen bit up), get a strong heat gun (a few of them) or an oven, put the acrylic, on the screen, and heat it up. I'm not an expert, I have seen it done though (but it was a cute small TV, and that's what I suggest you getting, a tiny TV, like 10 inch)

    It's an amazing idea... In theory. It looks great now, but without a filter, you need to clean your fish tank at least once every two weeks... Which means you'll have to take the tv apart constantly because there is no filter. If you could add a filter, this would be an incredible idea!!

    Now you know what the inside of a picture tube looks like ... 3:16.
    Another plastic set saved from potential landfill with a positive re-purpose (in this case a fish tank). Now you can watch something interesting while you're home. The front of the old CRT is part of the tank that you built around it. That's impressive (I hope it doesn't ever leak). Peace be with you. :)

    You should really talk about discharging the tube before somebody else (or you) kills themselves trying this. 30,000 volts~ even when fully unplugged.
