Proof You Don't Need The Homing Attack In A 3D Sonic Game

- This really isn't all that hard to do once you get accustomed to SRB2's physics... that and enabling orbital looking... also this was played on controller FYI.
Do not think too much about what the UA-cam title for this video was a few hours ago, it was all just a dream. :)

The music is Rolling Down The Street, In My Katamari by FearOfDark, if anyone wants to know
I *thought* it sounded like FoD. Admittedly, this is one of the Motorway tracks I listen to the least, so that's why I didn't remember it with any certitude. (The tracks I most often listen to being Motorway, Funknitium-99, Surfing On A Sine Wave, Polaris, and An Age Of Planetary Pride.) It's hardly a weak contribution to the album, it's just not one of my top 5.
Great song
Finally I k ow song of this level
For the people saying I am lying and I DID use the homing attack... no I didn't lol... and anyone saying otherwise has never played Sonic Robo Blast 2.
I only used the thunder shield monitor for the bounce and never used its homing properties (indicated by the reticle as well as the shield having its own sfx) and the air dash (or thok) does not home in on anything.
your skill are great
Only skill, and now I'm gonna play the level just like you
Edit: but what settings do you have in terms of camera. I like how it looks in the video but I can't seem to be headset on the settings
“Even without wings I can still fly!”
SRB2 is insane to me because it may be one of, if not the only 3D Sonic I've seen where you can effectively and consistently do things like badnik bounces --- without any need for auto aiming or homing attacks. The fact they've been able to pull that off is something that has always stunned me and still does to this day.
You can jump on goombas in any 3d Mario game. Jumping in to goombas is easier.
@@crustykeycap5670 did you not read the specification

This would be a good video to show someone any time they say that the homing attack is necessary for a 3D Sonic game to be playable.
I think I might just change the UA-cam title thanks to your comment.
Speaking of which, I didn't expect you to comment on this shitpost. Love your videos!
For most people it IS necessary, not everyone is a God at controlling sonic in a 3d space, especially with srb2's slippery physics
@@ianproductions5540 At least reduce the homing range to be like it was in Sonic Adventure. I swear, the homing attack in recent Sonic games has so much range it trivializes platforming and dispatching enemies.
It is necessary if the physics and controls aren't as refined as SRB2's.
Yeah but this kind of reminds of the carefulness in platforming of an old school tomb raider. Not for everybody.
SRB2 showed me the magic of midair control and I’ve never recovered since
srb2 is nut worthy

A homing attack that carries your forward momentum would be peak but I still prefer having it imo.
That music reminds me of listening to chiptune compilations back in the mid 2000s here on UA-cam.
this was my favorite level in this level pack; you can just bounce over most of the level, which I did
I don't know, its possible but for new players its a lot more challenging. I think the ideal solution is to have the homing attack as an option but to make routes and shortcuts that account for both. Definitely a lot of fun when you get it rolling smoothly
You should also make the non-HA routes shorter if you master them to give inventive.
Because why would anyone bother mastering the hard method if the easy one is more efficient?
SRB2 is the closest thing to a 3d classic sonic game. It has the same design philosophy as sonic 3 & k, but put into 3d. I remember a long time ago when people thought all 3D Sonic was trash, they'd say stuff like the fact you need a homing attack, or that the level size required would be too large to reasonably do for a sonic game. And yet here's a fan game doing just that, and it's not even finished yet, they're set to revamp the physics to be even more accurate to the genesis games, with it'll even allow for loops and the such to be implemented. Sure it's taking a while, but there's no way a competent team of devs with the budget that sonic has couldn't do this.
This title is giving me brain aneurysm.
The truth is painful to accept for dedicated deniers
@@MariusUrucu Don't flatter yourself.
This only works in 3D and without homing attack if the enemies have some “gigantism” applied to them
The case in point in this video is noticing how the enemies are twice the size of sonic - something only noticeable once you come close to them
Badnik Bouncing has always been a thing, what are you on about?
Eh? Crawlas are only slightly larger than Sonic. Heck, most enemies in The Mega Drive Sonic games are larger than Crawlas are here.
The only thing wrong with this level is that I wish there was more of it. Not even gonna lie, I'd say it's the only level worth checking out out of everything in the level pack. It's nothing groundbreaking, sure, but the color palette, music, and just overall presentation really makes this level stand out. The level just ends too quickly for me, unless you wanna pad out the time by watching the terribly long intro.
dude wdym this is like the worst level in the pack
@@nuclearkitten6421 metallic city is way worse
@@nuclearkitten6421Blooming Brushes wants to meet you.
Well its true but for some people this level would be hell without a homing attack
Man I wish the main games still let you badnik bounce and it actually rewarded you for not just relying on a homing attack.
the older boost games kinda did this, especially gens sky sanctuary and crisis city, since a homing attack would take away your momentum after landing it, while with a badnik bounce, you kept your momentum afterwards
that is some brazy airtime at the start lol i didnt know that was possible
Maintaining the “SRB2 is the best 3D Sonic game” agenda is our top priority.
Hey, adventure sonic got a new update. Its okay, you don't need to be in a **RUSH**
I'll see myself out
Alternative Title: Showing My Skills On a 3D Sonic Game
For anybody thats wondering, no he didnt use a homing attack, a homing attack locks onto the enemy and thoks/dashes towards them, in this case he used the thok not s homing attack, you havent played a sonic game if u dont know whats the diffrence between a thok and homing attsck
I need to replay this game again. Love doing a no thoks given run. You were the one to introduce me to it and I will forever be grateful for that.
Totally agreed with the T I T L E, it's very satisfying
Honestly, the more impressive thing here is that you're doing this with Analogue/"Modern" controls. Though, it looks like you have the automatic camera turning turned off, which definitely helps a lot with precision.
Honestly, analogue stick is probably better for movement, since you can fine tune certain jumps.
Also, I've been playing a lot of FPS games on controller lately (mainly using Dualshock 4 and 5 with Gyro aiming) and it's honestly really comfortable.
Not as competitive as mouse/kb, but close enough and a lot more smoother looking during recordings.
Seems like your playing a casual game of floor is lava
This is exactly what Pariah wants
With the way you played, i thought the floor was lava.
I mean. It can just be a setting toggle.
I still remember when you had a friday night funking phase on your channel lmao
you ARE the homing attack
It's not that you don't need, it's that the convenience of Homing Attacks helps avoid depth perplexion when dealing with enemies in a 3D space.
Also it's the basic "Just because you can, doesn't mean everyone should", like the Aim Assist debacle in FPS games: Just because you can aim accurately with a mouse, or with a controller if you are more seasoned player, doesn't mean that Aim Assist should be disregarded, it should still be there to help up to the Advanced playerbase (Experts don't need it, of course)
And lastly: Sonic Robo Blast 2 made the fatal mistake of using Classic Sonic Momentum, which is REALLY jank and unreliable in 3D space.
I made the title mostly in jest. I just wanted to show off.
But I do enjoy SRB2 a lot and I think it's the most satisfying Sonic game to control once you master it.
Just widen the enemies, enlarge some hitboxes, and throw in an insta-shield. Do that and even someone's grandma could get some badnick bouncin' in
Yeah, but making it too easy wouldn't make it satisfying.
It wasn't easy in classic Sonic, it shouldn't be essy here either. Granted it shouldn't be hard as nails either, just you having good control of Sonic.
Bro you gotta play the max control pack it’s great trust me
People are commenting about an earlier title for this video
What did you do ?

Alright then beat crazy gadget no homing attack

Its very weird why the developers really tried to remove this ability even tho its perfection to the sonic gameplay
They tried to remove it? The SRB2 devs?
@@tjlnintendoThey were gonna replace thok with a new ability in 2.3, but eventually it got scrapped.
Imagine doing this without models...
It's still doable... a bit more annoying but doable
This is basically Sonic but the floor is lava! :D
how u gonna say we dont need homing attack when you already used a homing attack in the first 20 seconds
There wasn't any homing attack... the thok (air dash) does not home in...
@@MariusUrucu Anyone with a brain will know that.
if theres no charater that is just Spindash & jump on srb2, i'll make one. even call it Blandy.
There is a Sonic 3 style mod for SRB2 that gives you only jump and Spindash (and insta-shield)
And if not just a style, there is also the S3 Sonic mod that puts S3 Sonic with the same controls as S3&K (You even need to spam the jump button while holding down spin to charge a spindash, otherwise Sonic will only crouch).
*SONIC UTOPIA ( Super Mario 64 )*

Actually, that was Sonic's Speed Thok, which gives Sonic a mid-air dash in the direction he was facing. It does not home in on any badniks, thus marking it down to a mid-air dash.
