Ah man you're too harsh on yourself. Any stories you've read, I would definitely include in the read list even if you haven't actually read the edition you own.
I was thinking that too! they're some digital that I read but would like to own physical versions, so they should count. is not like the material is any different lol
yep, why would you put them in "unread", what's logic behind it and at the same time he probably counted some of them as "read" but he read like half of the stories and didn't actually finished them idk.
I’ve read 100%, because i dont add the books to my collection before i’ve read them, i keep them in my ‘to read’ pile. I personally find it more motivating to read when I can add the books to my shelves after I’ve read them. Helps me not buy too much aswell 😀 (I totally respect buying many books to collect though!!)
It’s a relevant topic for all of us as collectors. Thing is if we don’t grab the hardcovers and omnis when they come out we miss out on them as they go OOP. I’m probably always around 40-50% read of my collection; as I read books I sell them unless I consider them 4 or 5 star reads that I’ll want to read again. So I always have inflow and outflow of books....usually inflow beats outflow 😂. Thanks for the great videos, Gem. Love the content and we really appreciate the videos!
Love when your wife swears, Haha. She's a real one for counting all of that. You didn't make it easy. But if you read other versions I'd still count it as read.
I use these videos as ASMR. Not because I think theyre boring, i’m a fan, I just really enjoy listening to someone as genuine and passionate as Gem while I fall asleep. It’s relaxing. Then come the morning I actually finish the video.
Really enjoyed this video- like taking a stroll through the Gembrary. My numbers are 70 books total owned, with 39 read. A 56% completion rate- better than I was expecting. I actually document all my books in a spreadsheet and mark which ones I read and when to help me keep track of things.
I demand a recount lol!! You need to count the read stuff because you change format you are just upgrading books u love. If you go from library or oversized to an absolute it still counts. Damn your own rules!!
I used to read everything in my collection before I got anything new. Then I discovered the price hikes when Collections go out of print. I now have an "I'll get there eventually" pile.
That's a very good question for me to ask myself, I know if I read more, I'd probably collect less, but I'm back on that trading card hype again, some of the original art sketch cards that come in these current/modern boxes now a days are bad ass and addicting to have
Respect for setting up such harsh rules for yourself. There are definitely times when I rather read something I read many times already than read something new or never read. It's like comfort food -enjoying time with a good old friend.
Im at 29 of 185 thats bad its only like 15% and im not counting the 6 new omnis that r sitting in a box in my room that just got delivered. If they aint on the shelf they dont count lol.
That’s always the hard part - time for reading what we love vs obligations in our lives : thanks so much for the run down I love reading philosophy, physics and history as I’m also a bibliophile and die hard Geminite collector .
Mate, your collection is legendary and I only dream to own as much you do...keep up the good work mate...out of my collection, I've read approx 70%... I'm trying to keep up...take care and stay safe
This was a lot of fun, man! 28% is fair - not as bad as it was looking during the actual counting. I think if you could count what you've read in different formats, etc, I bet you'd be up to 40%, but as you said, rules are rules. Definitely think you need to read that Sweet Tooth man! You'll love it!
An excellent and impressive vid that I actually use for a reference to see what I'm missing. I actually have a lot of stuff I haven't gotten to yet either, It's just that you know they're going to sell out and cost a fortune later, best to get them while you can and tackle them at your own speed.
i was impressed by how many you remembered you read lol, i don’t know how many books i have and i’m not sure i could remember how many of them i’ve read. but this made me want to go check
I’m a DC guy I’m not sure if I want to buy any Marvel Omnibus, but I can respect the love you have for it as shown with how many more Marvel Omnibuses that you have lol.
I don’t keep a library so my completion rate is 100% save for whatever stack I have at any moment 😁. I buy, read, sell - rinse and repeat. I just got back into reading the past couple years so got aways to catch-up to you 😂
Those golden, silver, and bronze age books can be a giant chore to get through with how much dialogue they fill each page with. Definitely recommend checking out Grayson though, its a quick and enjoyable read.
Love those GA omnis (as well as Silver age) but they are a struggle to get through. I have a tendency to dip into them so yes, I have read them, just probably not each and every comic (and many of the stories were quite samey)
A good friend has lots of Omnibus books too, and most of them replaced the issues he already had. I asked if he would read again in the gigantic omnibus format the same comics he's already read and he replied "of course, I always do".
Another great video, I feel stupid giving you advice but have you tried the goodreads app? You can scan your entire library and split it into read and unread... it’s a game changer.
Guilty here too. Wifey is already mad seeing Instocktrade packages comming to the house. I have yet to read my x-men and batman omni. I've been preoccupied ready berserk and attack on titan. My reasoning is that I rather get it now when it is discounted rather than wait and if it sells out, price will be tripled.
28% is pretty good on should a big number. Mine is lower, sitting at 22%. You should do a poll on the channel for members to vote what they want you to read next
Jaja ! Very cool clip ! I'll have to check out my score 😬😬😬 A bit harsh on the rules ! I would've definitely count all those you've read in different format as "read" :P
I read most of my collection as I bought them when I was 14-25 yrs old which is 1984-1995. Anything after that is 20 or 30 percent read. The older I got, the less time or patience I have to read books. I also remember the books I’ve read when I younger more than the books I’ve read recently.
The trouble is, if you don't buy them now while they are still reasonably affordable then give it a few weeks after OOP and they are suddenly crazy prices forever - so if I like a title, such as GA Wonder Woman then I am going to buy it now, if I wait for 5 or 6 years then I won't be able to afford them. So, annoying, I have quite a few books yet to read and that is the key word, I do intend to read them all. I am still reading most but especially when we have a flood of new books in the next few months, I can only read so much per day.
I have way too long of a TBR too and comics are my worst offenders. When I count mine, I usually make a third category catchall of like “have read in diff format, or read in series but don’t remember this book”. And I usually count half reads as read unless I’m actively working on them. But wow I’m jealous of your collection.
Off all my trade paperbacks and collected editions,I only haven't read the thick Knightfall vol 1 (because I'll wait until I buy the whole event) and one pocket book of West Coast Avengers . Digital library though...
I’ve heard ppl talk about using a spreadsheet to track stuff but that’s unwieldy with a large collection. I use this free app meant for library’s and all I do is scan the barcode with my phone and it catalogues it for me. And then I can check off as read, unread, or reading. So my stats are: 495 total (not including digital or floppies) with 32% completion rate.
My opinion is you should count all you read regardless the format because you now the story, you read it. You just have them collected in omnibus format now.
Man I have no where near the amount of books you do, but that's why I'm at 94% read of my roughly 100 books I own. I need a new bookshelf and more space so I can buy more
nothing wrong with amassing a bunch of books you have yet to read, gives you something to look forward to in the future. Also, if you wait to buy stuff sometimes it can go out of print and you will have a hard time finding a physical copy to add to your personal collection.
I have been buying omnibuses for the last 2 years thanks to your channel and I have read less than half. I know I’ll get to them but here’s how I see it.........yea but at least I have them haha
46 Oversized books 32 omnis 7 unread 9 gem rules unread 78% read It would’ve been higher, but the stimulus package lead to some purchases that I’m waiting to read until I get the Infinte Crisis Omni later this year.
Haha, I think we saw you dying a little inside while filming this. I'd like a re-tally of books you've read in other forms counting as read. It hardly seems fair to not count them just cause you're a completionist and upgraded to better copies.
You want two trade rooms 😱😂😂 It is so cool I have long ways two go I started a year ago with collecting so i thinki mabye one day i will have a room like you 🤞🤞🤞
There is an episode of the 80s/90s (I forget) twilight zone entitled paladin of the lost hour where the man brings up how someone asked him if he'd read all his books and he says "why would I want shelves full of books I've already read"
My collection I’ve read all but 3 books. I own majority Batman but the ones I haven’t read are Justice league of America of the new 52 I only got the first two volumes can’t find anymore, and then I got justice league of America: the tornados path. Picked it up at local Ollies for cheap and need to read it
I have read my whole collection but my memory sucks, so reading it again is almost like seeing them for the first time, feels good
It seems like a bless and a curse at the same time.
omg same here! I could have like 50 books and re-read them in a loop and not know what they were about :P
School must have been pretty hard for you, fellas 😅
seems like your books get a lot of mileage lol
@Petercross it is a good thing I have files of every book 😆
Ah man you're too harsh on yourself. Any stories you've read, I would definitely include in the read list even if you haven't actually read the edition you own.
This.
I was thinking that too! they're some digital that I read but would like to own physical versions, so they should count. is not like the material is any different lol
That kinda annoyed me. Should've count them as read lol
yep, why would you put them in "unread", what's logic behind it and at the same time he probably counted some of them as "read" but he read like half of the stories and didn't actually finished them idk.

I personally find it more motivating to read when I can add the books to my shelves after I’ve read them. Helps me not buy too much aswell 😀 (I totally respect buying many books to collect though!!)
This makes sense. It will motivate you to read them sooner because adding them to the collection feels so good.
I used to not do that because things I want go out of print.
I think if you read them in any format it should count as read. It's the same story. You have a great collection.
You and wifey going back and forth the entire tally from beginning to end had me like -> 🥴🤯
It’s a relevant topic for all of us as collectors. Thing is if we don’t grab the hardcovers and omnis when they come out we miss out on them as they go OOP.
I’m probably always around 40-50% read of my collection; as I read books I sell them unless I consider them 4 or 5 star reads that I’ll want to read again. So I always have inflow and outflow of books....usually inflow beats outflow 😂.

i'll take it
Really enjoyed this video- like taking a stroll through the Gembrary. My numbers are 70 books total owned, with 39 read. A 56% completion rate- better than I was expecting. I actually document all my books in a spreadsheet and mark which ones I read and when to help me keep track of things.

Gem was high when he drop this track
Shelter in place has me reading books I’ve had for years that I’ve never opened. I finally got that extra home time I always wanted.
Nearly spit out my coffee when Gem goes “take it easy” after Phee called him out on BPRD. 😂😂😂
Lmao
My girl and I are exactly like that 24/7.
I think I'm around 40%. Quarantine helped alot lol
Josh Phelps Same Same.... struggling through this Silver Surfer Omni
overall sick collection. very organized and neatly displayed
Rules are rules, but they are rules that you made up. LOL
Lol someone gotta
That beserk line is fucking crazy nice on that shelf
Man now I gotta go through and count, this is a great idea. I love these type of videos Gem, keep them going
You should count what you read, no matter the format. Honesty deserves a like.
yea that seems like the overall consensus. Just felt like it would have been cheating lol
Haha, is there a collector who doesn’t buy more than they read!? Thought that was a prerequisite of the hobby...
Your library is straight fire!!! 🔥🔥🔥 watching your videos got me interested in reading comic books again. Salute! 😎👍
After finding this Channel my book buying has gone up too much to read lmao.
Dig your collection, omnibus and absolute editions are the way to go,
Great idea for a video. Love it!
Great thing about books is that they never expire.
I think we can all relate to buying more than you can read. Lol Great video again GEMINT.
Heavenly colourful comic,omnibus library !
I used to read everything in my collection before I got anything new. Then I discovered the price hikes when Collections go out of print. I now have an "I'll get there eventually" pile.
Man I can relate so much to this video. All the long boxes I have. I probably haven't read 65% of my stuff.
Dude you gotta read that Jason Aaron Punisher Max!! It’s soooo good!!!
That's a very good question for me to ask myself, I know if I read more, I'd probably collect less, but I'm back on that trading card hype again, some of the original art sketch cards that come in these current/modern boxes now a days are bad ass and addicting to have
I’ve always wondered this great video man💎
Respect for setting up such harsh rules for yourself. There are definitely times when I rather read something I read many times already than read something new or never read. It's like comfort food -enjoying time with a good old friend.
Now that’s an amazing collection and those Berserk statues are awesome!
Got a lot to keep you busy for years to come! TWU!
Im at 29 of 185 thats bad its only like 15% and im not counting the 6 new omnis that r sitting in a box in my room that just got delivered. If they aint on the shelf they dont count lol.
lol
Your honesty is hilarious. Phie tried to keep you honest. Been a fan fo years as you know. Luv ya bro
lol i know it
PHEW..... that's a LOTTA books bruh. You DEFINITELY have the minty fresh ones that matter. 🤓
Look at it this way, Gem. Plenty of future content for your channel 👍
That’s always the hard part - time for reading what we love vs obligations in our lives : thanks so much for the run down I love reading philosophy, physics and history as I’m also a bibliophile and die hard Geminite collector .
Great video and am so jealous of your collection. I am about 60% but I only have about 50 books
Mate, your collection is legendary and I only dream to own as much you do...keep up the good work mate...out of my collection, I've read approx 70%... I'm trying to keep up...take care and stay safe
Cool vid man. I like dem stats. 👍
Great video as always.

Such an awesome video, I've been wondering what all the books you have are
I only own 1 omni and of course I've read it so,
100% yay🎉😂
I got a butt load of trade paperbacks, but you said they don't count.😑
I don’t keep a library so my completion rate is 100% save for whatever stack I have at any moment 😁. I buy, read, sell - rinse and repeat. I just got back into reading the past couple years so got aways to catch-up to you 😂
Can’t wait for update and little more detail of which ones you want to read or not going to read for a while…
Aye gem you should do a video on your collection of single issues or cgc slabs if you have any that’d be cool
I don't have a collection near this size but I did buy the big damn sin city when it came out and it is still in it's plastic wrap.
Yoooooooooo GEM u got some reading to do!!!😂
Those golden, silver, and bronze age books can be a giant chore to get through with how much dialogue they fill each page with. Definitely recommend checking out Grayson though, its a quick and enjoyable read.
Love those GA omnis (as well as Silver age) but they are a struggle to get through. I have a tendency to dip into them so yes, I have read them, just probably not each and every comic (and many of the stories were quite samey)
This was worth the watch just for the banter between you two !😂
This is a neat video and reveal of the results. Kinda strange rules but i get it.
Love the collection 😍❤️👌🔥
Maybe you can review tomb of Dracula in October for Halloween. I read book 2. It was good . Keep up good work 👍
“Teik izy, Phie”... well that didn’t take too long LOL
You have such an amazing collection, keep going!
A good friend has lots of Omnibus books too, and most of them replaced the issues he already had. I asked if he would read again in the gigantic omnibus format the same comics he's already read and he replied "of course, I always do".

Awesome awesome video very informative
Jaja !
Very cool clip !
I'll have to check out my score 😬😬😬
A bit harsh on the rules !
I would've definitely count all those you've read in different format as "read" :P
Poor Phie! Even I got confused. Lol
I read most of my collection as I bought them when I was 14-25 yrs old which is 1984-1995. Anything after that is 20 or 30 percent read. The older I got, the less time or patience I have to read books. I also remember the books I’ve read when I younger more than the books I’ve read recently.
Take it easy you said Gem 😂 This is great, I have shelves unread as well but quarantine has me busting into omni's
That Garth Ennis Hellblazer would be a great review gem
It gives me low key anxiety when I have books on my shelf I have not read lol I gotta finish!!
The one thing I learned from this video is that damn you gotta start cracking down and reading them books gem 😂😂
omg i would do things for that crimson book! lol.
I am still reading most but especially when we have a flood of new books in the next few months, I can only read so much per day.
Yea seems to be worse than ever now
I've always rationalize my collection as something I will eventually enjoy in my retirement years.
same
100k here we come 👊
man you gotta DOPE ass collection! gonna start building up one of my own!
I have way too long of a TBR too and comics are my worst offenders. When I count mine, I usually make a third category catchall of like “have read in diff format, or read in series but don’t remember this book”. And I usually count half reads as read unless I’m actively working on them. But wow I’m jealous of your collection.
My man you got a lot of reading to do so good luck👍
ngl, Phie scared me @7:09, gave me flashbacks of my wife yelling at me haha
You need to read Sleeper!
I’m at about 30-35% read for my collection.
I read everything. Thats the whole point in having them. Trades, regular books. Everything
I own 15 long boxes of singles, read every damn one! The touch, the smell, the feel, OMG
I just checked my collection and I’m at 44% out of 220 books... not bad considering I’ve only been reading for 12 months lol
I feel you man. I started in September when me n my ex broke up. I've got over 5-600 books now
220 books over 12 months? Damn son
Firmini Gaming
No better way to get through hard times than getting lost in a book.
Robert E.O Speedwagon
Yeah I fell hard and now I can’t get enough lol
My opinion is you should count all you read regardless the format because you now the story, you read it. You just have them collected in omnibus format now.
I only own hardcover comics, non omnibus yet! But, in those hardcover I’m 93% fully read.
Man I have no where near the amount of books you do, but that's why I'm at 94% read of my roughly 100 books I own. I need a new bookshelf and more space so I can buy more
You made me feel a lot better about being at about 35% of what I’ve read in my collection
nothing wrong with amassing a bunch of books you have yet to read, gives you something to look forward to in the future.
Awesome video, Stephen. I actually count them no matter the format I read them, so I guess we are pretty much at 50 / 50?...
46 Oversized books
32 omnis
7 unread
9 gem rules unread
78% read
It would’ve been higher, but the stimulus package lead to some purchases that I’m waiting to read until I get the Infinte Crisis Omni later this year.
Haha, I think we saw you dying a little inside while filming this.
I'd like a re-tally of books you've read in other forms counting as read. It hardly seems fair to not count them just cause you're a completionist and upgraded to better copies.
You want two trade rooms 😱😂😂
It is so cool I have long ways two go I started a year ago with collecting so i thinki mabye one day i will have a room like you 🤞🤞🤞
Idea for a future video.... How many books have you read more than once?
There is an episode of the 80s/90s (I forget) twilight zone entitled paladin of the lost hour where the man brings up how someone asked him if he'd read all his books and he says "why would I want shelves full of books I've already read"
My collection I’ve read all but 3 books.
