  • When the drop down paper feed rollers are not spinning on your HP Photosmart Premium C310a, the drive gear may be slipping on the drive shaft and not driving the paper feed rollers. Here is the fix to the drive gear you can do in less than 5 minutes.

    I turned printer upside down, drilled a 1-1/2" hole through the bottom base plastic straight below the gear and was able to to work on it straight on.... worked out great. no additional harm to unit... Way easier than trying to look and work upside down through mirror.

      That's what that guy in the other video did. I can feel that the rollers don't move. I'm happy to drill a hole in the bottom of the printer. It's a little payback for the frustration I've been having over the issue.

    I looked for and found a couple of other videos for this problem, as it recently started on my printer.... but your video was by far the best as it showed VERY CLEARLY, the teeth on the metal shaft for which the PLASTIC gear you moved to the left. in the other videos it was not apparent in them.... I cut my teeth in the IT world starting with the old dot matrix printers and then laser and ink jet and line printers.... been in IT for 23 years, last 15 or so in the IT Systems Administration/help desk. I greatly thank you for the EXCELLENT video. Tomorrow I will be tearing down my printer to get to that area to apply some super glue, as I am sure that the plastic teeth on the inside of that little plastic gear were/are stripped. Keep up the great videos....(subscribed..) thanks again

      Michael, thank you for taking the time to send me your comments. It is very much appreciated.I also cut my teeth on dot matrix printers, thermal heads, and some insanely designed laser printers before HP came out with the LaserJet III.
      You don’t need to tear down the printer to perform this repair. The gear is accessible from the front of the printer after you remove the paper tray.
      The video was shot using a mirror to show the affected gear. If you tape a thin plastic mirror to the bottom of your printer where the paper tray sits , you will see it too.
      To apply the glue, I found it easier to flip the printer upside down, gravity will make it easier to apply the glue to the shaft.
      Thank you for your comments and good luck! Mine is still running daily. I just picked up some more ink cartridges- $55 for two black XL cartridges at Costco! I can’t remember them being so expensive the last time I stocked up.

    Thanks for this awesome simple way to repair this broken connection of the shaft and the plastic gear. Amazing what this type of video can help us in terms of unnecessary waste (the printer itself and the time and money to go and buy another printer). It worked like a charm for me and the printer is back doing the job for the whole family. Thanks so much for your time to make this video and sharing it. Kudos.

    This was helpful, if you are watching this there is something that you can easily overlook because it's done but not mentioned. PLACE A MIRROR IN THE FEEDING TRAY TO SEE THE GEARS. In this model, you will be placing the glue on the driveshaft upside down. It took me a bit but I figured it out.

      technical 00003 - thank you for your comment. I didn't need to disassemble the printer to perform this repair. I placed a mirror where the paper tray sits so I could see the slipping gear. I found it was easier to tape the mirror in place, then flip the printer upside-down when I applied the glue to the gear.
      I found this same gear assembly in other HP ink jet printers - and the same gear failed on those too!

    I have done this twice now (7520) and it didn't last very long for me either time, once with JBWeld and once with e3000. Sadly I think I'm going to have to junk the printer. I don't do a lot of printing at all. I'd say at best, each fix only lasted 20 sheets.

    One question, how did you get access gears and wheels in the actual printer?

    • @1985AW11
      @1985AW11  2 роки тому

      Hi Mandy, if you remove the paper and put a mirror where the paper sits, you’ll see the gears and paper drive mechanism.
      If you tape the mirror in place, then flip the printer upside down, you’ll find it easier to apply the glue.

      John, thank you for your question. The printer is still going strong 8+ months later. I did the same repair to another HP printer about 6 months ago, and it also is in daily use. One trick I may have not mentioned in the video: I taped the mirror down, then flipped the printer upside down so that I could use gravity to apply the Gorilla Glue to the shaft. It was easier than to try to apply it using a stir stick.

    I have an HP All-in-One 6210 and I can see that the gears work when there is no paper, but once the paper is installed they won't turn. There is no "bar" where I can move one of the gears to try any gluing. Do you know what is causing the trouble? TIA.

    • @1985AW11
      @1985AW11  6 років тому

      Hi Early Hours. If you remove the paper tray and place a flat mirror in that area you will see the drive shaft and the gear that is slipping. My video was shot using the mirror in that position. Good luck.

  • @edwardenglish5845
    @edwardenglish5845 4 роки тому

    How do you get to wherever this is in the printer? The video neither shows nor tells where this drive gear is. How do all you guys know where it is?

    • @1985AW11
      @1985AW11  4 роки тому

      Hi Edward, remove the paper tray cover so you can see the paper and how the pinch roller drops down to feed the paper. Place a mirror on top of the paper and you’ll see the drive gear in the mirror. That’s how the video was shot and how the repair was made - using a mirror to locate the drive gear! Good luck with your repair.

    I have this problem but do not know how I can fix the gears on my HP Photosmart 7510 as the gears are not accessible without taking the printer apart.

    • @1985AW11
      @1985AW11  5 років тому

      J MAN , if you remove the paper tray and place a mirror where the tray lay, you should see the gears near the drop down feeder. The paper feed mechanism seems to carry across all HP Photosmart printers.

    • @jman6214
      @jman6214 5 років тому

      Sounds good. I thought there might be some way to easily disassemble the printer to fix it. Will use the mirror option and hope for the best. Thanks for the recommendation.

    How do I disassemble the printer to get to that part?

    • @1985AW11
      @1985AW11  5 років тому

      Sergio, you don’t need to disassemble the printer. Remove the paper tray and place a flat mirror where the paper tray sat. You’ll see the gear in the mirror. Once you’ve located the gear, tape the mirror in place and flip the printer upside down so when you apply the glue to the shaft it will stay there long enough for you to slide the gear back in place.

      1: Place a mirror on the paper feed tray so you can see what you are doing.
      2: Gear on the silver drive shaft is slipping. see video for what is slipping.
      3: Slide the gear left.
      4: Use superglue on drive shaft.
      5: slide the gear back into position.
      6: wait for glue to dry (1 hour?).
      7: FIXED!
      Also subtitles can auto translate for some languages.

      Hi @johnadams-wp2yb. Your printer is likely looking for photo paper. You can trick it by changing your settings to tell it has photo paper loaded instead of plain paper stock. It should print the picture albeit the photo would be better looking on photo paper.
