I live in south Mississippi, and it supposed to be 26 tonight here. It has gotten down to 18 already. I am the only one in my family who likes rutabagas. My grandmother would make the very best rutabaga when I was growing up. Good job keep up the good work.
If you would have had a scoop of creamed potatoes, it would have been my mama’s meal to a tee! Perfection at its finest! I love Rutabagas!!! When my mama was older and struggled to peel them, I suggested she boil the whole rutabaga for a few minutes to make peeling it easier and safer. It worked so well! They can be difficult to peel which keeps a lot of people from trying them. Don’t let them intimidate you if have never cooked them! It’s been 11 years since I have eaten my mama’s cooking. Love watching you cook!
We love rhutabaga. I have always called it turnip. I love in London Ontario Canada and it is 10 degrees. We have tons of snow this year. My husband and I took the dog for a walk. The sun was shining so it was gorgeous. I love your snow in the winter. Out summers are in the 90's. Best of both worlds. I agree steam clean is useless.🥰
Hello...I'm in northern idaho and it's about 17 degrees here where I live. I've never had rutabagas cooked that way only in a stew...and I've never had okra ever. Love watching you both cook. Most of your cooking is how I was taught by my mom...
Hello Tammy Chris this meal looks so good. I love rutabaga and okra. I have never seen orkra cooked this way. It is extremely freezing cold here in Toronto Ontario Canada. Have a good evening and a wonderful Blessed weekend full of Good Blessings for you and your family from Wendy Bertie
I'm in Tifton, GA. Yes! It's cold, and supposed to be colder tomorrow night. Your okra always so good. I've not tried rutabaga cooked like that. Granny cooked hers in with cabbage and seasoned with bacon or ham. I've got to try your way! Yum!
Lisa, your Granny knew how to flavor rutabaga. I'm going to do that when I cook my next one. I have put a few pieces in with my potatoes when I am cooking potatoes to mash.
My mom's mom was direct from Ireland and would boil the rutabaga and then add it to onions fried in bacon and mash it. It's still a holiday favorite. I gotta try it this way!!
My mom made mashed rutabaga also, so I’m for sure gonna try this steamed method. And with the real butter and a smidge of sugar, it should perfectly hit the spot.
Dinner looks yummy! The idea for buttermilk on okra is something I've never done but will sure try! Yes, it's cold here, too in Tennessee. Going to be 21 tonight and I've heard there are snow flurries in N. GA. close to where we live. Stay warm!
in Japan, a very popular breaded meat patty is called Mechi Katsu. Very similar to Tammy's recipe, but also made with a combo of ground meats, i.e. hamburger + pork, & coated with egg & panko, which makes it crunchy. Very tasty!
I never thought i would like rutabagas; however, yours looks really good, will try soon. Never did know how to cook them. I fry my okra the same way you do , and YES, they are GOOD. I can't stand them soft at all. Love to You and Chris.
My mother was first generation American. Her mother immigrated from Sweden and rutabaga was a staple in her home. My mom used to mash it with potatoes. Delicious. From NW Georgia, between Lafayette and Chattanooga. Last I checked, it will go down to around 19...with added wind advisory.
Mama always cooked about a quarter of a small onion in the rutabagas. Butter salt & pepper & little sugar. I am gonna try your steak. It looks beautiful. Yum
Hey Ms. Tammy, I love these little meals for two that you show because I take care of my mama, and I cook dinner for just me and her every night and I still have a hard time figuring how to downsize the large family meals we used to cook for when we had 5-10 people here all the time.. I’m a southern mama and we love our southern comfort foods and I know mama loves southern comfort food more than anything, so it’s nice to see these types of videos! Ty for sharing! Looks delicious! ☺️❤️🙌🏻
@@christinelister437 aww! Ty so much for your kind words! So very sweet! My mom was a caretaker her whole life, and it was very hard for her physically and emotionally.. so it’s my honor to take care of her now and make sure she is happy and comfortable.. as she did for me and countless others.. thanks again! You are very kind! ☺️❤️🤝
Hi, Tammy and Chris, Callahan Fl. here. We were just in St. Mary's last night at the Riverside Cafe, celebrating a family birthday. I'm gonna try your glazed rutabaga recipe tonight. God Bless and Thank You for sharing.
Temp for at tonight across from ATL is 28 also. It’s really windy. I love fried okra, but never knew it was so simple. Glad I’m spending time with you this evening. We call this country fried steak.
I'm in Houston, TX. It's been in the lower 30'a the past couple of nights. More cold coming next week. I've never had rutabaga. I want to try it so bad. Looks good.
My kind of supper!!! Can't wait to bread my hamburger. Never done that, but it looks so delicious! I live in southwest Virginia and temps are getting into the single digits for us. Not used to this much cold. Just waiting on Spring!
I have had floured hamburger steak before! I love okra cooked your way. Gonna have th o try the rutabagas. Never tried them but once or twice in my life. The phrase you were fishing for when someone is wanting to purchase a stove: "in the market for." You two are so cute! I really enjoy your banter!
Wow your meal looks quite delicious. I love fried Okra and fried onion rings. I have never had a hamburger breaded nor have I tasted Rutabagas. I plan on trying your recipe for Rutabagas and breaded hamburgers. Thanks for sharing. I always enjoying your cooking and the recipes and tips that you share as you are cooking.
Hubby and I live in Auburndale, Florida, and we had to cover our garden and flowers that are starting to grow. Love watching your show. I am going to make your two-ingredient biscuits in the morning.
I love rutabagas. I could eat a pot full. We did hamburger steaks like that with rice and onion gravy this week. Just also finished a pot full of rutabagas we cooked the other day. We cooked 4 of them. I could eat them every meal.
At 11:12pm in Powder Springs ,Georgia it’s 32 degrees with “snow flurries “ ! 23 degrees by 8:00 am Saturday morning 🥶🥶🥶….not sure what the wind chill will be but I’m sure it’ll be colder !!! Love watching you cook…. Since there’s only me,you’re cooking more than I can eat for one meal but boy oh boy , it sure looks good !!!
It's supposed to get to like 3 degrees here in Laurel, Indiana tonight! And we have about 2 in. of snow. (Not nearly as bad as some other places.) But still some slick roads out there tonight! :/ LOVE your show! Discovered you Guy's "by accident" about a month ago. Been "Binge watching you" every since! Lol ;)
Kathie says…I just finished watching your video and thoroughly enjoyed it as always!! I have never tasted a rutabaga but will buy one to make the next time that I go to the grocery store! For now we are stocked up and hunkered down during the freezing weather outside…organizing our fishing lures & jigheads, thinking about S P R I N G !!! I will definitely make those breaded Hamburger Steaks! They look mouth-watering delicious!! Thank you for the recipes!! I am happy for you going on your vacation!! I hope that you enjoy yourselves!! Happy upcoming Birthday Chris!! Enjoy your special day!!
Loved this!! I haven’t commented much lately Tammy but I don’t miss a video, I watch when I can! I LOVE rutabaga, I can eat them boiled in a pot with nothing but salt, that’s how much I love them, but you’re right, the way you cooked them in this video is the best!! I’ll bet you’re like me- the cashiers at the store will sometimes ask “what is this” so they can find the code😂I always tell them what it is and then my big mouth goes on to tell how to cook it! Have a GREAT time in Vegas!!! We will miss you on RSW but can’t wait to see videos!!! Love y’all!! Ginger in Savannah
Hey Savannah, I love rutabaga also and have had the checkout person ask me what it was. But I've never put sugar in mine . Going to try that. I also munch on it raw while cutting it up
It’s 16° right now and about 10pm. We had a few snow flurries this morning but they didn’t last long. Our weather is strange, it is like this one day and the next it will be 40°. Forgot to add, we are in southern Illinois, good thing my head is attached, lol. Those hamburgers looked yummy, I’m going to try doing it that way!
Looks Delish!!! It’s 49 now in Fernandina beach, dropping to the mid 30s overnight. We have a wedding in St.Augustine tomorrow. Yes, it’s definitely going to be a little chilly being outside in 48 Degrees. I think this is the lowest we have ever seen the temperatures drop in the past 3 years we’ve lived here. Stay warm and safe!
Everything looks delicious Tammy. Here in Houston it’s 55 right now but in the morning it’s supposed to be 37. Cold enough for this old Mimaw. Hope y’all have a wonderful time on your trip. I’ve only gone to Las Vegas once for a convention when I was working. It was birthday so my daughter took me to see Lion King live. Have fun.❤️
I appreciated the tip of the blood on top of the meat indicating that the meat is almost done. I had never heard that before! I sure enjoy watching your videos! I always learn something and it takes me right back to my mother’s kitchen. It’s a sweet memory.
I had an elderly neighbor and she taught me how to cut a rutabaga. Take a pot of water and boil it, place the rutabaga in it and boil it for 3 mins. That skin with all that wax comes right off
Hello Chris and Tammy. I'm in Ohio and it is 1:00am and it is 8*. Brrrrrr! I've never tried rutabaga, but now I shall. Thank you both! You make everything look good and it always is!
Hi Tammy! It's 14° here in Cininnati right now at 10:45 pm and going down to 10°. I'm a popsicle!!! 😰 Your wonderful dinner looks so warm and yummy! And I'm hungry!! Rutabagas are my favorite veggie! They take a long time to cook and cutting them up is like trying to cut wood but they are soooo good! Those steaks look incredible!! Thanks for sharing!!! Hugs & blessings!! Stay warm everybody!!
Hi Tammy ! I love this meal ! And, I've missed you and hope you're feeling better. Hey, Miss Tammy. Okeechobee Florida here. In the S. Central part, on the north shore of Lake Okeechobee. We got down to 27 here at our little homestead. Cold enough to put another cover on the bed! We’re not used to that cold. Tonight (2/4) it’s right at 70 degrees at 9:30 pm. Quite a swing, huh?
Here in eastern NC it’s snowing, temperature is low 20’s. As always your meal looks mighty tasty. Was telling a friend about you and she told me her mom lived about 2 miles from you. Mercy, I wished it was me that lived that close.
Hi, Tammy. I'm in N. California, and it was in the mid 60's today, and in the mid 30's tonight. Cold and clear. I cook like you cook. Heavy on the veg, especially the old-time vegetables.
I have never had rutabaga. I’m gonna try ur recipe. Everything looked so good especially the fried onions that Chris really didn’t want! 😅 . Thanks for the great video.
I love rutabagas, but I don't fix them often because I'm afraid I'll come out with 7 fingers instead of 10! The canned ones just aren't the same. I'm inspired now though, and I'm going to do better!
I from Effingham South Carolina I love rootabakers I just had some yesterday I just might eat the whole pack I love your show because you do not have about 23 years going into the food and took like Old Country Girl and that makes a lot of gifts in the food
Good Day to you and Mr. Chris, Everything looks very Delicious, I haven't had Rutabagas since I was 10yrs old, I didn't think they existed anymore, Thank You for doing this Ms Tammy and have a Beautiful Bless Day.
Looks delicious! I do make breaded hamburger steaks. My husband likes anything fried! Lol! I did get an air fryer to try and cut back on the oil consumption, but there are just some things ya have to actually used oil and fry! Breaded hamburger steak is one of those things. Thanks for sharing your recipes with us. Have a blessed weekend. ❤️🙏
😲 wow I wish I could indulge in a fried supper but I've gotta keep away from fats as much as possible. My cholesterol is off the charts. I've had a stroke in the past so I have too be careful. Plus I'm a diabetic so that changes everything. But I am prone to cheating. 😂 Lol That okra is gotta be gr8!
South Jersey has already had a dusting of snow, the heavy snow ❄️ is coming overnight, expecting around 18 inches, with high winds, shore Area will get more!!! Atlantic City, ocean city etc!!! Temp now is 32

Have to give this a try. Only had Rutabaga and Turnips in Irish Stew and they are baked. They look good. You are funny when you cook. :)

I love rutabagas, but I don't fix them often because I'm afraid I'll come out with 7 fingers instead of 10! The canned ones just aren't the same. I'm inspired now though, and I'm going to do better!
T, I love rutabagas too.
I also agree with you on the stoves. Not enough room, oven’s are are hard to clean, etc. and the biggest thing is cleaning the top. Ugh I hate it.
I’m in NewJersey and it’s about to be a snow storm. Thanks again for your amazing delicious recipes. Cris is an amazing camera man. Lots of love 💕 💕
