India has its own GPS which is navic and our militaries are using it from last 5 - 6 years it was launched in 2015 - 16 !
Now we have 8 navic satellite 🛰 which provides better data then GPS in India 🎉
And soon we were able to use Navic in our phones 😊

The biggest thing he got wrong is that ISRO was never meant for national security. We dont look at space from national security lens like Pakistan. ISRO does military tasks but its a completely civilian agency meant to work for betterment of people and not only for military. Its a documented principle. BTW ISRO is planning to launch their first Solar mission Aditya L1 on 26th of august for study of Sun.

NavIC (Navigation with Indian Constellation) means Sailor in Hindi, the Indian GPS system is already used by defence from 2016. From 1st April 2019, use of AIS 140 compliant NavIC-based vehicle tracking systems were made compulsory for all commercial vehicles in India. NavIC (GPS) is planned to be available soon for civilian use in mobile devices, after Qualcomm and ISRO signed an agreement.

Correction:
ISRO came to life in 1967 but INCOSPAR was there since 1962. They launched the first rocket right next year after Rahbar-1 went to outer space.
India has NAVIC as their Global Positioning System which is pretty much working and being used by Defence, they have just sent over a new satellite which makes it easier for civilian use, without any new sensor requirement in the phones.
Rahbar -1 went to the space with the help of ISRO

Indian navigation system started way back in 2016, it is called Indian Regional Navigation Satellite System(IRNSS) popularly known as NavIC..Currently it has a constellation of 7 satellites with a coverage of entire south asia and half of China..ISRO is working hard to launch more satellites to the constellation in order to make it a global navigation system.
Europe sabotaged it with faulty atomic clocks.

ISRO was initially used for weather prediction, water management, disaster management and other things which can help the economy and uplift people's standards, Kargil showed the importance of localised GPS for military use

Rehbar was a series of sounding rockets launched into the upper atmosphere by Pakistan's Space and Upper Atmosphere Research Commission (SUPARCO). Rehbar-I was the first rocket launched by SUPARCO, on 7 June 1962.In 1961, NASA realized that the Indian Ocean region was a black hole of data relating to the wind structure of the upper atmosphere which was badly needed for NASA's satellite/Apollo programs. NASA offered all countries on the littoral of the Indian Ocean help to establish rocket ranges in order to obtain such data on condition of fully sharing it with NASA. President Ayub Khan accompanied by his Chief Scientific Advisor Prof. Abdus Salam were on a state visit in the U.S. at the time. Pakistan seized the offer and Prof. Abdus Salam invited Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission's (PAEC) senior engineer Tariq Mustafa to join him in meeting with NASA officials in September 1961 to finalize the arrangement and Pakistan was the first country to take up the offer.

One correction though - Indian Navic is already incorporated in most mobiles sold in India and we have a constellation of satellites focussed on whole of south asian region. So slowly these Navic enabled mobile phones would find its way in the whole region. Less dependency on the whims and fancies of US defence organisations.

National security was just one of the areas ISRO was supposed to take care of . This fact actually is disclosed in the web series Rocket Boys but it was cleanly understand , that it was mainly to convince politicians in the opposition or else they would oppose fund sanction because the left wing also argued why a poor country like India needs a Space Programme .

Dear expert, you should have studied about NAVIK and India's capability to shoot down the satellites... And also about the rocket programme starting from lslv or pslv and gslv while you are taking about India's space programme.

Please note: India's own GPS is already in space and working called -NavIC. The first ever GPS satellite was launched in 2013 and recent was in May 2023. The grid (Constellation) consists of 9 IRNSS series satellites and 1 recently launched NVS series satellite in May 2023.

I don't know why only military use comes to picture when space is discussed. Far more important is GPS, communication, weather reporting, crop monitoring, land use planning. Just imagine GPS stops working for even one day.

Among the several experiments planned for Pragyaan rover on successful landing of Vikram lander, is to install a Seismometer that will be able to monitor lunar quake activity on the south pole which would be occurring due to entire different set of reasons as compared to the earth because of the absence of any moving tectonic plates under the lunar crust. The Seismometer carried by Chandrayaan 3 is designed to distinguish and filter out external lunar quake activity involving collision of lunar surface with asteroids and meteors. This experiment has generated a lot of interest amongst the global space fraternity, especially NASA who have monitoring lunar quake activity but limited to equatorial sections only.
