With the Canon being the only comparable lens you have to say the Canon lens isn't available on any other mounts than the Canon RF mount, while the Sigma is NOT available for Canon RF. So in the end it pretty much comes down to which system you use - but yeah: No third-party lenses really is the biggest downside of Canon's mirrorless series. When I started buying into the Sony full frame and Sigma worlds in early 2022, I knew I needed to come up with some sort of strategy as to when to buy what kind of lens with budget concerns in mind. My wishful thinking was to cover the entire range from 10-1000mm, and realistically 14-600mm was on the horizon. Got it all covered, couldn’t be happier. So I thought. Until these amazing engineers in Japan hammer out one after the next and the next … Basically with every new release they’re shaking up my entire lens basket and how I would’ve assorted it had I known from beginning that this and that and then the next new lens was in the making. First world problems, I know. After all, it’s great to see that Sigma constantly produces new lenses and different lenses that are always better than their closest predecessor. It’s comforting to know that whenever I’d need to replace a lens that I could just grab the latest Sigma model and be on my way while being even better off than before. Thank you, Gordon, for keeping a sharp and well seasoned eye on the latest and best. Good to know that my choices so far have been great and will stay great until I have to or want to buy into the latest that’s even better.
Thank you Mr. Laing! I agree that not all reviews need a sponsor, but B&H, MPB, or KEH would be wise to offer! I'm not convinced I need a zoom lens but glad sigma keeps innovating, great for the market.

That said, this would be a really really nice lens to use. On a full-frame Foveon. Which I am sure is still in the pipeline and will be here sooner than later. Right, Sigma?? RIGHT, SIGMA?

Canon lenses with IS work alongside IBIS in bodies that have it to enhance the total compensation, although in my tests I don't always find much difference vs lenses without. Most of Sigma's lenses do not have optical IS, and most are not available in the Canon mount either. Actually today they did launch one for Canon RF, the 10-18mm f2.8 DC DN but only for APSC sensors. I actually have a review of it coming next week where I compare the stabilisation against the Canon 10-18 which does have IS, and TBH, there wasn't much in it.
Unfortunately Canon has worse image quality than Sigma. Blurred close image wide open in 105, severe chromatic aberration extreme high weight. I keep my 24-70 f2.8 + 70-200 f2.8 after testing rf 24-105 f2.8 Canon. But sigma did perfect work. Well done! Rf 24-70 also has blurred close focusing 70mm wide open and chromatic aberration. But rf 24-105 f2.8 has them even more. It’s step back in image quality. But rf 70-200mm f2.8 has no weak spots. No chromatic at all, no close blur image. Perfectly sharp and clean. It’s same like prime image quality.

@@cameralabs yeah the fact that so many people have a worse camera than what all the initial reviews provided. Not a single premium camera-journalist has said a single thing on this topic. @@robmcd the problem from my perspective is most gear testers, including myself, only see the product when it's first launched. We generally have a loaner for one to two weeks, running the earliest firmware, then they're returned to the manufacturer and we move onto the next product. So we rarely get to see the impact or test firmware updates unless we manage to borrow the camera again, or in the rare cases where we might own one. For example, I can talk about the long term usage of an X100V or Lumix S5 or Sony A6400 as I own all three and have used them daily for years, including updates. So for other issues we have to listen out to the community mentioning them, and remember that's multiple systems to monitor, so we may not ever hear about certain issues at all. I came across the AF issue when I stumbled across a UA-cam video about it by someone I didn't know. It would be hard to replicate in testing as I'd need a fresh camera body with earlier firmware, before performing the same tests with multiple firmware updates. It would be hard to do with a loaner, so I'd really need to buy one, and I don't have the budget for that. So this is why we all play to our strengths. Reviewers have access to early hardware, so we're best-suited to making news or initial reviews. Then long-term tests and firmware update reviews are best done by the people who own them, who have the product for a long period, don't have to test other products constantly and also have access to a community to discuss it with. That said, next time I meet with Fujifilm I'll ask them about this and if I get any useful information beyond what you already know, I'll pass it on. For event work, this has to be teamed with two other lenses - shorter and longer. OTOH, a 35-150/2.0-2.8 needs only one additional lens. I pair mine with a 20-40/2.8.
Nice
Still not clear if the linear function of Lumix body menus applies to Lumix lenses only, or if Sigma have this feature enabled on L mount variant. Reviews are good, the antics of beach goers always amuses, and the outdoor tests are valuable.
Thanks!
Lumix only

It'd be huge if it had a fixed barrel
