    It was 1994/95 when they did those CGI shots, CGI was in its infancy, we just had T2 and Jurassic Park. PR had a tiny fraction of their budget. As bad as it looks in 2024, in 1995 when the movie came out Power Rangers was def ambitious and I think the team who worked on it deserves some eh, flowers as they say.

      Eh. As a VFX artist working on the show, I was disappointed at the time that the movie wasn’t any better than what we were doing. And the teleports were even worse than what we did for the show. The triceratops skeleton puppet was outstanding.
      There was more CGI than just T2 and Jurassic Park, those were just the biggest and best.

      But at the same time, they were also able to produce Babylon 5 on a television budget with, at the time, equivalently better graphics on a television show's budget. As such, at the very least, they should have had the Megazord actually looking like the Megazord.

    I think it was the biggest mistake in the 95 MMPR movie to go full CGI when it clearly wasn't up to snuff. Specially when the full Ninja Megazord was formed and it fought Ivan Ooze in the mech body, those had human proportions, it would have worked to do as suits as always

    That thing you brought up about the Megazord being able to take the form based on what's the most mightiest being on the planet? I literally did not think of that till now.
    And now that you mentioned it, I think it would've made sense for the sequels, had they made them. Like the zords and Megazord are so versatile and can adapt to any opponent they're up against and makes them kind of like a predator that's trying to be the apex predator no matter what.

    As a kid the CGI was so odd looking... although it would've been tolerable... had the megazord not look so oddly clunky. In retrospect kinda wish they did it like Robot Jox and just gone with stop motion animation as CGI just wasn't really still quite ready. I saw the MMPR:The Movie in theaters when it released in '95. Even at the age of 14, I had three major critiques of the movie. The first was the order of the morphing sequence was different from the TV show. The second was the cheap CGI of the zords (money would have been better spent having TOEI film the zords for them since they would have still had all of the suits and miniatures at that time). Third was the story wasn't cannon with the TV show. Lets be honest, the movie version of how they acquired their ninja powers was waaaaay better than what we got in the TV show (no offense to Ninjor). If I owned the PR franchise, I would make a special edition of the '95 movie with the zords redone.
    The 2017 movie was a disaster, particularly the 3rd act when they FINALLY morph (poorly scripted scene in my opinion). The zords looked OK except why does the Mastodon and the Triceratops have extra legs? The Triceratops running backwards I didn't find funny but cringe (ruined the build up and payoff of that scene). And lastly the megazord was poorly designed. The zords didn't form together the same way as the original and it looked so generic. Nothing about it made it stand apart as it's own work of art. It didn't have to look exactly like the original, but come on, they could have put more effort into it than they did. An we didn't even get to see the zords join together at all. They fall into a smoking hole and the megazord emerges from the smoke. Getting to see the rangers call out their power's names when morphing and the zords forming the megazord are two of the biggest peak moments apart from winning the battle of any Power Rangers episode. Even the '95 movie understood that much. All that money and they dropped the ball.

    All these overly done “realistic” cgi movies. Transformers, pacific rim, Avatar…. I cannot fallow that stuff. I space out through all of those. At least with the old power rangers their CGI was a little more cartoony, that was easier to fallow. Especially since there was substance in the plot. As much as Corridor wants to claim to be animators, they're not. Love their channel, but the only use motion capture and a.i.. They have no real sense of what real hand animation looks like. Even when they mentioned how Disney would use video references in the day, they still refused to accept the idea it roll was hand animated.
    They ignored that the zords moving was not referenced because they couldn't reference robots animals moving like that. Nor did they really reference animal movements at all for the zords. But the moment they transform into bipeds and fight, it's clear references footage used.
    Motion capture was not a option back in 1995. They barely had 3D rendering basics down, let alone copying real movements digitally.

    Corridor is a great channel, but many times they come off as paid shills. With yesterday's episode is a great example of this.
    They completely ignored the main issues folks have with the Snow White trailer (her not being white (she's specifically called "Snow" because her skin is as white as snow) and how utterly ugly and dumb the dwarves are. And the fact they went with ugly CGI instead of hiring actual dwarves that need and want the parts.
    In addition, they completely ignored the insane remarks and actions the Snow White actress made of the last year and focused on one that happens to be Israeli.
    All that aside, they claimed the dwarves looked good when they clearly don't. The entire episode was them kissing Disney's @ss. Which they do a LOT on their channel.

      Dang it, I missed their latest episode. Interesting take

    • @faizanbaber
      @faizanbaber Місяць тому

      Well they sit there and react to a clip or movie from visual standpoint regarding any political points or other agendas. They may talk about it a little but they are in no position to pass judgement on such topics in the show.
      Also about the dwarves, they may not look like real humans but they aren't bad from visual standpoint and they mention that it'll be a lot easier to use cgi snow white and make everything look cartoony at this point. And also this is just a trailer you can't really say cgi is bad until you see finished product.

    • @sespider
      @sespider Місяць тому

      @faizanbaber
      Movie trailers are designed and meant to represent the final film. Some parts may be missing or out of order to protect the plot, this trailer did not do that. Nor did it need to.
      In no sense of the word is using CGI characters over real humans "easier" in the context of a film with reshoots. It takes an awful lot more money and time to create, animate, and place cgi characters into a irl environment. And not a single critical soul ever said the dwarves had to look as goofy as their animation counterparts. Folks were asking for dwarves instead of new "magical creatures." And they were asking for real dwarves to play the parts.
      The cgi dwarves in this film are indeed ugly. The original animation's designs of them were never meant to be represented in a "realistic" manner. Just as the hobbit in the animated "The Hobbit" film was never meant to be depicted in a "realistic" manner.
      Where The Hobbit's live-action succeeds is using REAL actors. Even though they're wearing makeup and costumes, being REAL PEOPLE greatly aids in the films' immersion.
      With the "real-life" Snow White film, it's real people mixed with unrealistic looking chi characters. There no chance of there ever being any type of 'immersion' in it. The dwarves simply stick out too much. And to add to that, Disney has once again completely misrepresented the female character. Which they have a VERY BAD habit of doing in these so-called "live-action" films. With "Peter and Wendy" being the latest example. The only really successful "live-action" adaption was The Jungle Book.
