Update Sept 14, 2014: I took the telescope out this week to view the Super Moon and on another night to see deep sky objects and found the Andromeda Galaxy. Both observations were very easy and confirmed that this is a great telescope.
After my research I decided on this one, ordered it tonight but it's on back order for two months. Happy New Year 2021.
Nicely done, sir. Got mine today.
Totally cool!
Wow, was deciding between a Starblast and a Starmax 90mm. This ends the debate. I can't BELIEVE I can support astronomy in developing countries with a fantastic and portable scope cheaper than those two!
I totally was able to see Ceres last week. It's pretty cool to know you're looking at a body where a NASA mission is actively exploring.
how was your experience with the scope ?
Got my one sky today. It's bigger than I expected. Excited to check what can I see through it !
Abhi COOL! I was able to achieve one of my personal goals and see all 7 of the planets (Mercury to Neptune).
wow that's amazing ! I tried to collimate this telescope and it's super easy. It took me just 5 mins to collimate it using the collimator eye piece supplied with this telescope.
Abhi enjoy! I really think it’s basically THE perfect first scope.
Thanks Jeff !
give us some update
BTW, I just took the optical tube off the Dobsonian mount and tried it on an equatorial mount from a Celestron 3 inch telescope and IT FIT! The dovetails are almost the exact same size and that now gives me more flexibility when using the scope. I'll stick with the Dob for a while, but I'll try the equatorial too.
Jeffrey can you share the video of this as I really want to get this scope ?
how well can you see mars with this?
Hi Jeffrey, thanks for this video. Can you tell me the exact dimensions of the shipping box?
16"x16"x21"
What is the diameter of the mount of this telescope ? just want to see if the mount fits in the checkin luggage in flight. And can we separate the triangular base of mount from the circular base ?
Abhi, I haven’t measured it yet, but I’m pretty sure someone did use it as a travel scope. It was on the OFFICIAL unofficial forum at: www.cloudynights.com/topic/463109-onesky-newtonian-astronomers-without-borders/
Thanks!
Hi Jeffrey. Aside from the planets, can you see some deep sky objects with this telescope? Thanks.
Sherwin Guadalupe, sure. I can see the Orion Nebula and star clusters (Beehives, Pleiades, Hyades, etc.) and Andromeda. You can’t pick out really faint items like the California or North American nebulas - you’d need something bigger for that.
@@jeffreysmith6910 thank you for the reply. Have you done any upgrades (still using it?). I understand your video was posted 4 years ago.
Sherwin Guadalupe, I haven’t had much opportunity to use it recently - we had twins and astronomy got the shaft. :) I added a light baffle (you can find plans online) and got some more eyepieces. I had it on a motorized mount at one point too. One thing I didn’t like is that with a twist focus feature it doesn’t play well with most zoom eyepieces that ALSO twist to change zoom. You end up turning both at the same time. I do love the retractable design though. The red dot finder is annoying with a Newtonian - a pricier scope would have a 90deg finder. I really wanted to use the scope to learn the sky - naked eye and some magnification - and it worked great for that. When I get more time, I’d like to get one of the new generation of cellphone enabled goto scopes - with a telescoping focuser to use a zoom eyepiece.
@@jeffreysmith6910 thank you for the reply. I'm planning to make this as my first telescope so I'm trying to get all the information I can get. Your video is really useful. Thanks.
Any chance I could buy one? I'm in Peru. If so, where?
Go to www.astronomerswithoutborders.org. Then click on "Shop".
It says they only ship to US addresses and refers others to look at the SkyWatcher Heritage 130p which is basically the same telescope. Unfortunately, shipping from Europe costs me even more than from US. SkyWatcher USA does not have it on their website. Guess I'm outa luck.
only us shipping
is the base stable ?
Yes, if you put it on a stable surface.
What i worry about is they should gave finderscope not laser dot finder which use battery 😂 how they want to find battery at the middle of the jungle in Africa
