    I’ve owned both rane and pioneer. Both are great mixers, but the pioneer crossfader cut is sharp as a line switch, where Rane’s crossfader is not as sharp. It’s a good fader but not line-switch sharp like the pioneer, for scratching. I have 2 setups so I bought both…. lol

      @@PDot oh ok… so how do they feel though? (The upfaders). Because if they suck and are cheap quality and can’t do tricks like scratching techniques on them… then I would much rather get the Rane 70 or 72 as they All are Mag4 pro faders and would definitely work good with a DJ mixing flow… I’ve watched some of pro DJs videos on YT and they all seem to be/ feel comfortable using the upfaders and doing techniques though… (with the regular S11 upfaders)

      if you use phase, then you dont need to put the tonearm onto the platter anymore. its the point why there is that phase thing in the first place. This review where the effect are concerned is not accurate. The 72 has buttons to switch and turn the effects on just like the pioneer. Once you have the effect picked out it turns on and off with the button on the either side of the screen. So it definitely has the same functionality as the s11

    • @PDot
      @PDot  2 роки тому

      Sorry if I wasn’t clear. The point I was making isn’t turning the effects on/off, it is selecting the effects.
      You can only 1 hardware effect selected per channel, and to switch between them you have to scroll through them. Unlike the Pioneer system where selecting the hardware effect can be done with a simple button press.

    Currently own a 72 MK1, having upgraded from the S9. And there are a couple of things that bother me.
    1) Loop controls are garbage on the 72, especially saved loops. It's ridiculous how you have to activate them. You go to the pad mode, then click the loop and then click loop active. It wasn't intuitive. On the S9, it was literally Shift + 4 beat loop. Super easy.
    2) The built in effects. Try as I might, the echo FX on the Rane wasn't as good as the one on the S9. Sure it had more parameters and stuff to modify, but it just doesn't sound right. You can use 2 independent effects on each channel, which some DJs might consider a bonus. I usually use echo. On the S9, I'd use Echo, reverb, backspin, vinyl stop. And it was easy to pick and activate.
    3) The 72 had the screen and it is kinda unusable. I'd leave it on FX parameters permanently. Never looked at the waveforms cos they were choppy as hell.
    4) Knobs. I know the 72 MK2 sorted this issue but in a dark room, you literally don't know what knob you're touching. They all look and feel the same. ESPECIALLY THE FILTER KNOB. And you don't know if it's been reset at a glance. Never had an issue with pioneer mixers' or Denon controllers' knobs before.
    So yeah, looking to sell my 72 and pick up an S11, cos for my workflow, the S11 has better functionality. Smooth echo and 4 deck mixing is so dope. I just wished it had the S7's Bluetooth capability and midi paddles as well as RGB lighting for it's effects panel.

    • @PDot
      @PDot  3 роки тому +1

      Thank you for watching the video and for the well thought out comment! I have a few thoughts on your points I'd like to share:
      1) I actually think the looping controls on the 72 are better than on the S9. You have more than one way to activate auto loops, by using the pad more OR using a knob to select. You mentioned activating saved loops were easier on the S9, but in my opinion having to hit a shift function means you're hitting the same amount of buttons as using the pad mode on the 72 if you have to pick with saved loop you'd like to use.I also never enjoyed the fact that to disable an auto loop on the S9 you had to shit+ 4 beat loop instead of just being able to hit 4 beat loop again. But it really all comes down to preference and what kind of workflow YOU enjoy!
      2) After learning to dial in and save the setting for the echo I actually prefer the echo on the 72. I find that the echo on the S9 can sound super aggressive and can make a mix sound really muddy if turned up too much, which I find many DJs do. The echo on the 72 can get aggressive like that, especially if you use the hold echo, or you can make it more gradual. Just more options.
      3) I agree that the waveform screen isn't that usable and I find myself keeping mostly on the effects screen and only going to the waveform screen for quick loop controls and track time.
      4) The knobs on the 72 MK1 were definitely harder to see in a dark room but the in-line design of all the knobs made it easier to find what knob you were looking for if you are used to playing on club style mixers like the Pioneer 4 channel mixers.
