UK folks, you can get these now at BHV with next day delivery here - www.boutiquehomevideo.co.uk/Vinegar-syndrome/ BHV are also taking title requests for all Vinegar Syndrome films, including the Half Way to Black Friday titles.
I order all of my VS/Melusine direct from VS. I usually bundle up a fair few titles to make the most of the pricey flat shipping fee, but given that the delivery only takes two or three days (from despatch notification), from Connecticut to UK, I'm always impressed. ...btw, I always lol at these 'boutique' collectors dipping their toes into VS with the most mainstream, vanilla, titles possible 😆 ...come back when you've got a shelf full of Roger Watkins, Roberta Findlay, and other assorted sleaze and filth! Don't get me wrong, I love everything Verhoeven's made... but Showgirls is way near the bottom on my list of things I'll be getting from VS - waiting for the Half-way-to-Black-Friday sale to finally pick up Singapore Sling and Story of a Junkie 😎
I’m NEVER ahead of trends, but found VS on the Shockwaves podcast back in 2017 and took a gamble on buying 3 movies…and haven’t looked back since! I also visit family near The Archive and love getting to visit often. Have been and will be my favorite label!
Good to see you grabbing your first VS titles. Shallow Grave, Blood Games, The Caller, Miami Connection, New York Ninja, The Candy Snatchers, Dial Code Santa, Sudden Fury and Nothing Underneath are all superb mate 👌 👍
Hi Elliot, I’m in my third year of subscription from vinegar syndrome, and as you said, the care they put in every release is amazing! Im from Brazil and they ship each month by fedex to here, locally it’s impossible to buy any boutique label release and I’m always happy that they care with theirs international costumers. Hope you enjoy they more and more..
My first purchase from VinSyn was The Beastmaster. Loved that film when I was young and to have it in 4K was amazing. They are now one of my favourite labels and they have had a lot of my money 😂
The limited edition 4k Show Girls boxset was a must have for me. Great artwork, picture looks amazing, music 🎶 sounds awsome through my HT system. I remember this film was huge at the Box Office, something that we will never ever see again given crazy looney times we live in.
Welcome to the club, kid! 👍🏻😉 it's about time, Elliot! 😜😂 Vinegar Syndrome are brilliant! You can see the passion they pour into their releases. I'm surprised you didn't already buy their stuff. They have some cool merch, too! I've bought a few of their t-shirts. I highly recommend the box sets they put out, collector's heaven! 😍 Absolutely superb label! One of the very best! 💯👍🏻😎💜
I was in their store yesterday here in Toronto. Great store but I was a little bit overwhelmed because they have almost every Vinegar Syndrome release available. I picked up Phase IV. Great label.
There’s no way you aren’t going to fall deep into VS. my first title was Censor back in I think 2020, and since then I’ve partaken in every sale and as many preorders as I can afford. I have some merch and I don’t intend on stopping. VS is top tier when it comes to quality and customer service, they have a customer for life!!!
VS's new UHD of Cronenberg's Existenz is a new 4K scan of the interpositive and just TRAMPLES over the UK 101 Films blu-ray with that horrible old dnr'd Miramax master. A must own. VS's website offers impeccable international shipping. I also live in the UK but only buy from their website because of how cheap/fast/superbly packaged their postage is. I've bought from them so many times and your best bet if you want to secure the limited edition print run and don't want to wait for local third party sellers who will charge the exact same as VS themselves anyway (from my experience). They are my favourite label, beautiful work they do and thankfully more studios like MGM and even Paramount are licensing to them.
I bought the Spanish blu-ray of Road House a while back as I don’t have a region-free player. It’s a little light on extras but the picture quality is pretty good.
I was lucky to pickup the limited edition boxset of roadhouse, such a great release. Also looking forward to Vinegar Syndromes up and coming Navy Seals 4k boxset in May !!
Vinegar Syndrome have been doing some great releases. I also picked up Showgirls and Roadhouse! Roadhouse is a phenomenal film, with an amazing soundtrack too! Gorgo is another one I can highly recommend. Celeste de la Cabra did a wonderful review of it, which lead me to pick that one up.
Likewise, I'm new to the VS label, for some reason I didn't think they were available over here in the UK! I picked up their release of the underrated, unconventional French Giallo, The Strangler after seeing it reviewed by the wonderful Julia Marchese & am hooked, haha! Looking forward to seeing what else they have on offer.
Luckily capelight pictures are releasing Road House in a collectors edition mediabook here in Europe, and it has DV HDR. Very glad that i've waited because i don't have a region A blu-ray player.
One of Vinegar Syndrome's best releases was Paul Morrissey's FLESH FOR FRANKENSTEIN on 4k and 3D blu-ray. If you liked SHOWGIRLS, then this could be another Vinegar Syndrome treat for you.
VS are definitely the best in the business. But, never buy from UK resellers. Buy from VS direct at their Black Friday/ Halfway to Black Friday sales. Next one is in May. I order from them twice a year, and I've never had any problems getting the discs.
I'm not a subscriber to VS but I love the VSUs they've been releasing lately, Just got Southern Comfort and Phase IV 4ks they deliver really fast as well. Got into Altered Innocence one of partner labels.
I remember their porno roughies back when they started. Good to see how they've grown, but they're comparable very expensive nowadays. Annoyingly the 4Ks are region free with a pain in the backside (no, i'm not paying for a multi-region player) region A blu-ray. Last two I bought were the Paul Morrissey/Warhol films in 4K. They used to do $15 flat rate to the U.K no matter how many you ordered. Saw Showgirls the day it opened in NY- same day as Fincher's Seven- a great double bill. Spetters and The Fourth Man and all of Verhoven's pre-hollywood stuff is worth seeing.
I love “Tough Guys Don’t Dance". It’s sort of Lynch-like in a way. I got it for 10 or US$15 on their Black Friday sale. But it’s worth paying full price.
Was wondering when you’d start collecting these guys. I honestly don’t even pay attention to the dull Criterion stuff I’ve already seen with all the hidden gems that Vinegar Syndrome and Severin release.
My first VS title was “The Beastmaster” VSU. I didn’t buy another one until the “Freeway” 4K release. Kind of regretting not picking up the “Road House” 4K VSU, but I kind of like the b-movie grittiness of the blu-ray I have. I don’t need a guilty pleasure movie like that to be in 4K. I did however pick up the “Existenz” 4K and the “Southern Comfort” 4K VSU during the last sale. Unfortunately, the slip cover for “Existenz” sold out before the sale. I also picked up “Miami Connection” from the Hamilton Books site a couple of years ago. Not too excited about the recent 4K VSU title releases “D.A.R.Y.L.” and “Navy Seals”. However, it saves me money.
I imported one Vinegar Syndrome release because I love it, Bio Zombie. I'd like to get Road House, but it's always £40 odd. That's a lot for a standard release. I hope someone else puts it out, maybe Eureka.
SHOWGIRLS and SE7EN were both released on the same day in 1995 here in the U.S.. I was a big fan of Paul Verhoeven, so I saw SHOWGIRLS on that Friday evening. I was reluctant to watch SE7EN because of David Fincher's previous movie - the disastrous ALIEN 3 - but I did see it the next day, on Saturday, and he certainly redeemed himself with that one.
As a German I can recommend „Killer Condom“ / Kondom des Grauens. Just got a VHS and A crappy DVD release (based on the master for the VHS, so black borders everywhere/letterboxed version :-)) back in the day/1996/97 They/VS released a nearly perfect 4K version of the movie and a German repack is announced since 6 months but will probably take some time until this is released in Germany/Europe.
Hey! I got the Radiance Szulkin set which had 3 of the 4 films and loved that. Really eye opening stuff. I’m a big fan of weird Eastern European sci fi. Cheers!
Other films to check out at VS: Prospect(Pedro Pascal), A quiet Earth, ExistenZ(Jennifer Jason Leigh) , Red Rock West(Nicholas Cage), Southern Comfort(Powers Boothe), Guest House Paradiso(Rik Mayall), Sexmission(polish comedy).
With vinegar syndrome titles the blu ray discs are sometimes region a locked (due to licensing), at other times they’re all regions. It usually says under the title description on their site/app in each instance
I loved VS a few years ago, but have been buying them less and less as their prices sky rocket and the attention seems to be on holding film fans by the balls by selling them on the packaging over the actual films. In saying that, they have so many great films, and I must encourage people to look back through their catalogue because I think their older releases have a higher hit rate of good films. And if I can only recommend one film, it’s one no one else will recommend but is probably their genuine best film, it’s Good Luck Miss Wyckoff. It’s like if Douglas Sirk made a gritty melodrama in the 70s.
The great Blu-ray labels are how I discover so many films. Most of my favourite films were discovered through buying blu-rays. If I only bought blu-rays of films I knew I liked, discovery would rarely happen for me.
Why does everyone think people didn’t understand that Starship Troopers was a satire when it was first released? It was always obvious. It’s so over the top hung ho. Top Gun came out the year before and Verhoeven just salivated tearing apart that movie
I have a love/hate relationship with Paul Verhoeven films. I've quite enjoyed several of his films but I also find some of them to be frustrating. I hated Showgirls but I haven't seen it in a long time. Basic Instinct was my favorite Paul Verhoeven. Total Recall is pretty entertaining, too. However, there's also a part of me that doesn't care much for his films and at one point I recall selling all of them. I recall it having scenes that I felt trivialized sexual assault/rape and added camp to the film in these scenes. I found it grossly offense. It upset me a lot. (Felt the same way about Rob Zombie's Halloween, too.)
I haven’t snagged RoadHouse yet. It’s on my list. Showgirls, however, is unredeemable. Just a horrid film. That said, I’m glad people that want it can get it. But my first foray into VS came with their 4K of Beastmaster!

Seeing the critical reevaluation of Twin Peaks: Fire Walk with Me, and now Showgirls has been deeply satisfying.
both great films
Agree!
This video warms my heart. Vinegar Syndrome really are my favourite label and have been for a few years now. Thanks for the shout out pal 👍
VynSyn is the label that’s the most fun. (Severin is fun too.)

Vinegar syndrome has been my favorite company for a couple years now, I was a subscriber In 2023 and loved it! Top notch stuff all around
I’m glad you have a service like BHV. Here in the US we have Diabolik DVD which is great for importing stuff like Second Sight and Imprint.
Vinegar Syndrome is my favorite label for sure, by far I have more Vinegar Syndrome discs than any other label in my collection.
From Beyond on vs is must buy!
VS Roadhouse is an absolutely top tier 4k. Recently picked up the Southern Comfort Collectors edition and their packaging is second to none too.
The limited edition 4k Show Girls boxset was a must have for me. Great artwork, picture looks amazing, music 🎶 sounds awsome through my HT system. I remember this film was huge at the Box Office, something that we will never ever see again given crazy looney times we live in.

I loved Showgirls, Starship Troopers, Black Book... Verhoeven's sense of humour has been under-appreciated.
Singapore Sling is an upcoming blu-ray VS release you should consider.
I’ll keep an eye out for it! Cheers
Elliot, the 4K eXistenZ from VS is well worth the investment!
Ah I really want to get it. Might be my next addition to the collection. Cheers!
Their 4k of "Six-String Samurai" is incredible.
