    I returned from Hawaii family vacation, and the following day I had a grand ma seizure. I’m 55 years no medical concerns, I take no medications. Then 51 days later I had 3 more seizures, hit my head pretty hard. I actually had one while they were doing the EEG. Got a diagnosis. I’ve been on Keppra for 2 months (500mg BID) and I haven’t had anymore. I do feel like I’ve had a couple of Focal, but I’m not sure. It’s been life changing, stressful not knowing what caused them. I’m blessed, I have a good support system.

    I am so happy to have discovered your channel. I have congenital hydrocephalus due to a very large posterior fossa cyst. As an infant I was repeatedly experiencing nocturnal seizures. However, doctors dismissed my parents' concerns and life went on until I was 21 and my mum found me having an epileptic seizure in bed one morning and she automatically assumed I'd been taking drugs. When I recovered and told her of previous events she took me to my GP who referred me to the hospital.
    I have since undergone 7 ops and I now have a VP shunt in place.
    Your channel is a godsend to me. Thank you.

    I deeply value the knowledge you've shared, and I feel extremely fortunate and grateful to have come across this channel.
    A little over a year ago, I experienced a severe case of autoimmune Encephalitis triggered by a viral infection. Despite the efforts of neurologists who treated me, the specific virus responsible for the illness remains unidentified. Thankfully, my recovery has been swift, and I haven't experienced any cognitive or motor coordination issues. However, it is disheartening to note that I have lost approximately two years' worth of memories leading up to the incident.
    Currently, I have been dealing with focus seizures that manifest as distressing sensations resembling nightmares or Deja vu throughout the day. These episodes last only a few seconds and do not hinder my cognitive abilities or motor coordination. Nevertheless, they are truly frightening. I am receiving excellent treatment at one of the top institutions in the country, and I hope that eventually this condition will subside. Once again, thank you for providing this valuable channel.

    I turned 50, and after all of a sudden, I had one drop where I fell on the floor and then woke up. After that, I had a morning grand mal that broke two of my vertebrae. I had two more head bruising falls and then was put in lamotrigine. I have had a few really heavy deja vu but seem to be ok now. They did all the tests and found nothing. I had no issue before other than living with major chronic pain, major depressive disorder, and a problem with my thoracic outlet in my arms. I have no idea how this happened. My memory seems to be different now, and I sometimes forget things.

    I have had epilepsy since birth in 1959 when I had a 'perinatal stroke'. Though out the years, my epileptic seizures have kept changing. In 1999-2008 the seizures suddenly stopped. In 2008 they started up again, no one can explain to me why they should suddenly stop and restart again. I had a seizure several weeks ago, they kept me in hospital 15 days, because the doctors didn't quite know what it was (I have never had an epileptic seizure like that before). They put it down to a 'focal epilepic seizure', in the end. Now my seizures jump through out my 'limbs feet' and head. Now they can last for hours on end. One lasted for over 25 hours last year.

    I had a seizure as a child. I was playing on my Nintendo DS, I was making a animation with a police car. And the flashing lights triggered it. I am almost certain that my seizure lasted longer than 5 minutes, and I am also sure it was a tonic-clonic seizure. I have been noticing epilepsy symptoms here more recently. But they tested me for epilepsy as a child. Is there anyway I could have developed epilepsy later on in my life?

    • @AliciaGuitar
      @AliciaGuitar Рік тому

      Yes. Some seizure disorders are harder to diagnose. I have JME and was misdiagnosed as not having epilepsy until my 30s. My (bad) seizures started around 15-16 years old when migraines started as well. I have had 3 EEGs... 2 negative, 1 positive. Sometimes EEGs do not capture activity but that doesnt mean there is no epilepsy.

It is diagnosed as Focal Epilepsy with "Secondary Generalisation in the left front lobe. I have tried various medicines over the years some have helped for some time but then after a while a seizure happens & my doctor changes the medication. My causes I feel are hormonal(before my period) & right after my Childs delivery ,infectious (at the time of a flu) & metabolic (a heavy meal at night) as my seizure always occurs in my sleep 1-2 hrs after sleeping. Please advice & I have almost given up hope due to so much suffering...

    I have epilepsy and am otherwise completely normal and healthy. Tonic-clonic seizures began at age 15 and happen randomly with no apparent trigger or pattern. Neurologists have told me this is actually quite common, for many epileptics there just doesn’t seem to be any particular reason that can be identified as to why they have the condition, or when/why their seizures occur. Weird, that’s life I guess.

  • @LawofMoses

    I am 50 years old and was fairly healthy and all of a suddenly I had a pass out atonic seizure and then a few months later a grand mal and then 2 atonic where I fell and got a goose egg on the back and then on the front of my head. I am on lamotrigine now and have had two very faint ones just as I hit full 2 100mg pills a day. We do not know what caused it. Had CT, mri and eeg and nothing to see.

    Salam Dr. Omar Danoun. We are very grateful brilliant epileptologist. We are grateful for your expertise sir to be able to learn. I focus upon this as neuropyschologist and I would like to get your expertise. Sir can you educate about the EEG and how sleep wake cycles impact seniors? I have found in geriatric patients many of the hallucinations and delusions during REM transition. I have this as differential diagnosis versus more acute hosptial delirium (UTI, pneumonia, etc). It seems this is related to s/p CVA or related neurological insult stage 4 and above dementa as well. It just seems these sleep wake transitions can be very diagnostically relevant for our seniors. This is especially if brain damage and have very vivid hallucinations and delusions REM. Please educate.

      Mine started at 36. Went big. It was a drop seizure and I was standing on a marble floor. My head hit the floor and I had 4 hemorrhages, a subdural hematoma and a skull fracture. I was told it was syncope. Until I later totaled a car.
      Asked my neurologist what causes that to happen.
      We have known each other a while, so he looked at me, raised an eyebrow and asked, “How many concussions have you had?”
      Quite a few. So there is a possibility if you are still looking for a reason.

  • @jerrimeade2889
    @jerrimeade2889 Рік тому

    I believe that my seizures have been caused by my hypoxic brain injury that occurred back in 2018. Since 2018 I have suffered with about 15-20 seizures. That was until I stopped smoking cigarettes whichwason January27 2021. My last seizure was on March 22nd 2021. That was until I started taking Gabapentin and clonazepam for tremors and shaking. Then while coming off of that I experienced a seizure and that was on July 18th of this year. So then they put me on Keppra or the generic version of it. That made my depression way worse. So now they have me on oxcarbazapine. Which for my understanding as an epileptic drug. And I don't think that I have epilepsy. I think i have myocolonic seizures and tonic colonic seizures. So i guess my question is how can I completely stop taking these medications without having a seizure?

      I haven't been able to see a heart specialist since I was a teen and can't find one about my heart condition in the state I live in because it's kinda rare. I'm wondering if keppra is hurting my heart. Cause I'm not well. My hands knees feet are purple a lot. They turn red when I feel a seizure coming on. Anyway, thank you for your videos and for replying to me.

    I am still trying to figure out how I have 3 or 4 spots on the front of my brain and on the back (on ct scan).... my neurologist thinks its as a result of a motocross accident in the past, just doesn't make sense.

    • @DrOmarDanoun

      I can't say for you.. But in cases of head trauma.. The head hits the ground or an object then the brain moves in the skull and hits the front then bounces back and hits the back of the skull again and causes bleeding and scars as a consequence and this is called coup counter coup injury

      @@DrOmarDanoun what about serotonin syndrome? I spent 4 weeks in a coma and was diagnosed with serotonin syndrome. I was on citalopram and I was feeling unwell on holiday so I took some painkillers two days later I had a grand mal and ended up in ICU. Do you think the serotonin syndrome would of caused the epilepsy? I was 35 when diagnosed with epilepsy never had a seizure in my life before.

  • @CelticShadows88
    @CelticShadows88 Рік тому

    I have no idea where mine came from. I do get upset when I have one. I have bad habits when I feel one because I am new to seizures. I get scared so I hide from people when I feel one. Even though there is a seizure plan for me at work. I feel I can't trust anyone when I feel I'm going to have one. (That's not their fault at all; it's something I have to work on) At home when I feel one, I stay in my room all day and make sure no one comes in. I had a seizure at work Sunday and my coworker found me in the small storage room I usually go to, to have one. He had to go in there to put some items on the shelf. I trust this guy enough to let myself have one in front of him. He's the only person at work I allow myself to have one in front of. (I try to hold a seizure when I can) I know that me being upset is a trigger for a seizure, so I try to avoid getting upset. Trying to hold a seizure doesn't help me either; I try to let them happen when I feel one and feel better. I don't like having seizures in front of people.

    • @DrOmarDanoun
      @DrOmarDanoun  Рік тому

      Yes it is hard.. We know that attending to the seizure and stimulating the patient is better because in rare cases the seizure can be severe and cause injuries or even death if not attended to
