The video Jack got of the booster explosion is without doubt the coolest shot ever!!!! Not only is he a fantastic photographer, but his ability to capture the rocket in a live situation is absolutely incredible.
Can't help but speculate that Tower 2 will be purely for catching tests. No need to build and connect to a Tank farm just have the mechanics for chopstick movement. A successfull catch can be placed upon an SPMT for transport and refurbishment. If initial tests fail, just mechanical repairs needed, not tank/plumbing infrastructure if an explosion.
Once catching is nailed, they can upgrade Tower 2 to full launch capabilities.
Very plausible. Maybe Ship26 will be the test ship for initial vertical catching. Once that's perfected, move to a Ship with Flaps and do the 'Flip & Burn' maneuver.
I’m speculating that the “satisfying thump” during s28 stack was likely the reason for this morning’s destack. The same (or similar) thing occurred during the first stack of s25. It was destacked as well. Thanks Jack, Adrian, Jay D, Ryan C, Kevin, and all who provided video footage.
so they need to repair and stack again
LOL I think that was editors humour, dubbing in an audio drum beat. Probably just checking the fitting of the hotstaging ring to the base of Ship28. Who knows, they might have marker dye to see how well they contact each other?
2:17 What a sick render, i hope this becomes reality one day
Excellent update thanks Jack and the NSF team. Smart move putting Ryan at the end with the the breaking news too.
12:16 I would partly wrap that Cybertruck with some balck hexigon tiles.
That's hard!!!
That would go nuts 😮
Very clever. You deserve the credit before Elon sees this and implements it.
Yeah that would look pretty cool.
Superb Team NSF.A cracking update, just what we needed!
Love the "Lil Bub" T-shirt.
Nice video, you guys are getting better. Thank you.
Awesome update NSF team! I can’t get enough! I also enjoy Jacks humor! Keep up the awesome work that you do!
NSF,y'all rock! Peace
Needed this update! Thanks NSF
What a class act it would be to catch that booster for SpaceX, thunderous!
Go Jack & NSF Team, go!
Smart - adding the second tower at Boca Chica allows them to experiment with creating a larger tower for the longer version of Starship, but being able to continue test flights without having to shut down the primary tower. Otherwise they'd have to shut things down entirely while they spend ... months? ... adding segments, bigger motors, longer cables for the chopsticks, etc., etc., etc., to the top of the primary tower(?)
Now they can be all leisurely about tweaking that second tower into a state of perfection while they continue their test program. Once it's all set up and perfectly functional, THEN they can rework the primary tower. No loss of time WRT the test program.
The tower does not need to be taller. They just need to move the lifting points a bit down the ship.
Well that depends on how much taller the ship will be. Don't forget ships will eventually have 200ish tonnes at the top and so you'd want the lift points to be as far forward as possible to keep the centre of gravity correct. @@knowledgeisgood9645
S26- unflappable as always
Love that t shirt Jack.
Thanks for the coverage
I love the cat.
it's an exciting time to be alive!!!
Keep bringing the news, FOLKS!!! 🛸
Nice cat Jack!🐈
Getting close to a launch... Go SpaceX
Maravilha de documentário grata por poder assistir sucesso
Tower 2: Do you think some xtra section(s) will be added, given the plans to stretch Starship?
Great job Jack!
I am disappointed at the lack of kilts
Jack! If SpaceX contacted you and offered you the chance to place some cameras, so long as you went up there to place them, would you do that?
Absolutely
@@JackABeyer God, your a brave man! I'd be flat on my belly and even then would probably just pass out at that height 🤢
Their lawyers would never allow it.
2:26 Do you guys see how craaaxzzyy big those background shit are!?😮😮
Glad to see Jack's Bush sprouting 🤗
Second before last = Penultimate a much better word
While not the most interesting I found the cat tee shirt the most fun.
God I'd love a look inside Starfactory when it's done.
Did see a cybertruck headed to Corpus on farm road 70 Friday afternoon.
Cool Jack
And NSF got flat footed _again_ by the SpaceX chopstick shuffle.🤣🤣
I now think it'll be early March for IFT3.
Jack are you going to be there for Flight 3
Of course!
@@JackABeyer Hopefully at a safe distance. 😆
My best guess on ship 26 is it is an HLS prototpe... You'd need stringers to support the Elevators and perhaps the landing engines...
Loving that t-shirt
March, more testing and tweaking still to do and little more launch complex clean up to finish I suspect. Space launch cadence is like 2 a week by 2027 if I understand it correctly. If you just think about how well the launch complex and Starbase need to have fine tuned operations, it is a lot of work. Space X will make happen.
Hi there ...at 2.04 in the video you mention 4 segments of second launch tower being transported to Texas on barge....are they scrubbing the Starhip launchtower at Cape Canveral ?
Yes ..great news for flight 3
The flapless lander seems a perfect fit for moon lander.. the reinforcements are in the expected "upper" engine mount area, to avoid the dust updraft when landing. that is if the stringers are fully around.. else maybe "test for making a "bay" opening in the future? though why not make them from the inside..
The most likely date for the flight is between 20:00 to 22:00 (UTC) on either March 8th or March 9th. It being Mums Birthday, I'm travelling to see her the 8th and taking her out to dinner the 9th
LOL I know what you mean. Maybe put a rocket candle on the cake. When she blows it out, say "Mum, you blew the launch for me, but I still love you." Hope the dinner tables booked....
We need a run down of those mission patches
Talking about a cybertruck and then showing on screen a concrete truck arriving at Starbase was hilarious 😅😅😅
Except that the Cybertruck was actually centered in the frame in front of the concrete truck.
@@SpaceB0nz true. But human brain preferably focuses on moving things and things closest to the eyes... so a big moving concrete truck in the foreground makes a good (distracting) eye catcher ;)
I’m guessing it will launch when they’re ready.
Why do you think the second tower will be the same height as the first? Seems to me it will be taller, no?
The tower does not need to made any taller even if the ships are. All that is needed is placing the lifting points lower down on the ship.
The HSR still seems the focus of the issues for now. Wouldn't be surprised to see it removed and sent back for rework.
OK is this going to be a launch tower or a catch tower, because it seems to me like they should have one launch tower and one catch tower🤷♂️ once coming up one’s coming down either way I love it ❤️
Seems like some damage may have been done during stacking. The hot ring should be designed for ease of use to interface multiple times.
Although, a hot ring has never been used on a reusable launch vehicle/booster.
Any chance of delivering a Cybertruck to the moon as a payload on the HLS unmanned test landing?
The tiers would not make it.
@@knowledgeisgood9645 Didn't stop 'em from sending Elon's roadster on Falcon Heavy. j/s
@@BrianMoore-tc2xe Fine if the Cybertrucks are to be used as weight simulators.
@@knowledgeisgood9645 That was the general Idea, they would not make good moon rovers, but it could be used to test the rover deployment hardware too, and if with special wheels, it could move at all, it would make for a great Superbowl ad...
10:31 I'm sure we'd all really like to know what this last missing piece of information about OFT-2 is. It feels like it would have to relate to either the failure of the booster after staging or S25 at the ~T+00:08:00 mark with its RUD. It's conceivable that both are still being investigated or plans for mitigation remain to be completed, but my gut tells me only one of them are outstanding.
"Wet dress rehearsal" sounds like something Esther Williams would have done.
Great update! Did that "satisfying thump" come from the top of the booster, or the bottom?! 😬
Would really like to know, what information SpaceX didn't submit to the FAA yet. If it was about the technical problems of the last flight, well....if SpaceX doesn't know the real reason by now, they'll never will
Thanks Jack and the NSF team. It seems strange to me that they are working on the second tower before they even have a base for it. How long did it take for SpaceX to build the concrete base for the first tower?
Let's do more Jack 👍🚀 Go SpaceX 🤓🚀
Well I can only Presume SpaceX does not intend to Fly in Feb or it would of Given the Info FAA needs to get Flight 3 approved So Yes I Think March Is on the Cards T5hanks Great Vlog as always
For what it's worth, I miss Jack's modified-Fork mustache/beard 😅
Late Saturday night was when it was lifted not Saturday morning.
Possible sn26 purpose,,, first in orbit fuel storage/transfer depot. No need for flaps or heatshield.
ooh the thumb
Starhopper makes every video, as it should.
What's up with the crane wheels spinning in the air at 5:42 ?
At the rate or pace in which the FAA moves I predict a mid to late March launch just before Easter.
F JB & his FAA.
For the rocket with the extra stringers, is it possible that it will be used to test some sort of elevator platform for the lunar surface?
Also surprised that the stacking is not precise enough to happen in one go. Isn't this automated?
fully operational! I heard it lol
Well we know who had a late sunday night
I don't know, but it seems obvious to me that ship 26 with no flaps or tiles could be a fuel or LOX depot in space for refueling?
Ship 26 could it be used like a drop tank? Filled to maximum level of fuel sent to space to fill another ship. I would then leave in orbit to use material for space station construction.
Could SpaceX use an external wrap on heat shield tiles in high risk of loss areas that would ablate or burn off after doing its job of keeping the tiles in place?
It would be more likely to pull off tiles when it launches. The only fix is to make sure every tile is tested after it is installed.
@@knowledgeisgood9645 they could use Wax. The ideal would be a disposable tile holder for the initial booster turmoil expressed on the tiles. A properly developed Wax could solve that problem and oblate on reentry.
End of February is next flight.
9:30 Chat likes metal music.
Someone was asking during the live feed of the stacking early Sunday how many times S28 & B10 might be stacked & destacked before the flight. I think Trevor speculated 3 times. Well, one of each so far in the past 30+ hours or so. And none of us know the reason for this morning's destacking.
One thing i believe SpaceX definitely needs to do is have at least one WDR and Static Fire. I know they did that maybe a month ago, but that was before they were rolled back inside for whatever work was done, the subsequent return to OLM and multiple stacking & destackings. When there's this much on the line, you need to be very damn sure, it's ready for flight. No ifs, ands or buts.
There will never be enough checking. At some point you just have to take your chances. If it fails, up with B11-S29. That's what they are for.
I think launch will be early march
I was told they are putting in a parking garage like the one in Hawthorne.
So, B13-S31 combo -> 13-31, a palindrome !
I want a cat shirt :)
Mid March OFT3
💯 thanks
I thought elon said 3-4 weeks? So it will be nearly 4 months after the last launch.
April 8
Who's the cat on the tee shirt and where can I get the tee shirt?
What about final mishap report in 8 days and 8 more days till liftoff, feb.29.
🚀🏴☠️🎸
I wonder if ship 26 is an orbital fuel depot. The stringers could be to support insulation to slow propellant boil off. Thoughts?
Could be an HLS development article.
Hold up, indeed. SpaceX has a permit for 5 Starship launches a year, only.
Might be worth asking SpaceX for engineering camera feeds, after all NSF do more to advertise their mission than they do - The worst they can say is no. Just a thought. Regards and kudos.
I for one am disappointed there was no update regarding Jack and his kilt.
Jack, have you heard of any plans to build a priority roll out roadway so highway 4 doesn't have to be closed in the future?
Nope
There has been talk about "parking spaces" along the road to let traffic pass.
The land is federal and state owned. It would also need a lot of reinforcing, it being in the middle of welt lands.
KILT action !!
Wen patch
Ship 26 is the Lizzy Borden of Starships, unfairly accused and ostracized.
Yeeeeeee.... that thump was probably damage from something going in place rather forcefully....... because it probably wasn't exactly where it's supposed to be.
Is that Lil Bub on your shirt?
Yep!
9:46 that thump is more a sign of damage than anything else ¦ |
Heavy stainless steel drops on heavy stainless steel. It would need to be a much louder thump for anything to bend!
When 2 heavy steel objects come in contact there will always be loud bangs.
Hoppy remains cool.
Nice video Jack. Noticed the Airbus tag next to you. You need a Boeing tag. Keep up the great work.
Kilt wen?
