- In this web extra, Katie Ledecky, author of "Just Add Water: My Swimming Life," talks with correspondent Elaine Quijano about recent reports that 23 Chinese swimmers had tested positive for a banned substance just months before competing at the Tokyo Games in 2021, and how the news affected her and her teammates.

This is the closest I've ever seen to her being angry.
No purple face?
Back in day, I had to run against the East Germans. Those roids made them fast.
Good luck in Paris, Katie!
I hope she's successful in the Olympics.
She's juiced, I just watched her swim it's clear she's dropping also
She is such a great representative for the sport. Hopefully she will remain involved when her swimming days are done. Classic woman.
She is an awesome sweetheart. Period.
BTW, Katie's net worth: $5 million.
Michael Phelps' net worth: $100 million.
Go figure...
Michael hired a better PR agent.
Shame on the dopers and those who encourage or overlook them.
Im sure theyre really feeling the shame being cheered by everyone back home.
Good luck in the Paris Olympics, Katie Ledecky. I wish I could come here to be a big fan of you and cheer for you. 🙌🙌🙌
how ironic
Purple
Of course, we need someone to swim in the wave of Summer Macintosh.
For the unsuspecting audience, here are a few things you need to know first before diving in any reports. Don't just hear and believe what you are told.
1. The Chinese sports authorities, World Aquatics and WADA (World Anti-Doping Agency) all cleared these Chinese swimmers of the 2021 Tokyo Olympics as well as other subsequent international games. The incident happened 4 years ago in the last (Tokyo) Olympics games. So you may wonder why this is suddenly brought back in the main stage? What motives were behind such moves as we are just weeks before the 2024 Paris Olympics? Why do renowned US athletes, the FBI, American sport authorities like USADA, and western Corporate Media all simultaneously act in an accord to report the matter?
2. Relevant Chinese and global authorities cleared the Chinese athletes on the grounds that the findings were consistent with food contamination - namely some 23 Chinese swimmers were affected concurrently; the reported food contamination happened in a single venue (a hotel) during which time these swimmers were subjected to Covid lock-down rules; and the tests only showed tiny traces of DMZ. For your info, DMZ is commonly found in animal drugs and feed additives.
3. Since then these Chinese athletes participated in a number of regional and global swimming contests. They have won many titles and they have NOT been tested positive on any illegal drug usage. Among them the most notable Chinese athlete is ZHANG YuFei. ZHANG after winning 2 gold medals in the Tokyo Olympics continues to show her excellence in international events (Gold medal in 100m women butterfly in the 2023 Fukuda World Aquatics Championship, 6 gold medals in 200m butterfly, 50m freestyle, 50m butterfly, 100m butterfly, and 4-100 freestyle relay and mixed 4 x 100m medley relay in the 2023 Asian Games). The intensity of drug tests can be gauged by the sheer number of tests done on the Chinese athletes. Again take ZHANG as an example, she was subjected to 43 drug tests in 2023 (including 27 tests on international contests and 16 on domestic contests) and none came in positive.
I want to highlight a few points here. The timing of this old incident being resurfaced just before the 2024 Olympics is not a coincidence. Obviously, appreciating that you would have a reasonable grasp of the motives behind these reports. Second, there is a big difference between collective doping and food contamination and you can't talk as if they were the same. Noting WADA and other sport authorities have ruled out doping allegations 4 years ago. Thirdly and most importantly, there IS NO CORRELATION between athletic performance and drug abuse as far as the affected Chinese athletes are concerned. The stellar performance of Zhang is a good example.
WADA you talking about? 😂
Possible? Infinitesimally. Probable? Hard NO.
Paid CCP troll.
@@ordinary1069 I am not paid. And neither CCP nor troll. I am just speaking the facts!
@VL-inquisitor "Trimetazidine is not approved by the FDA for clinical use in the United States and is not well known as a doping drug in this country. Overseas, trimetazidine has been detected in urine samples of athletes involved in various sports including cycling, swimming, soccer, and weightlifting." FACTS.

It would be of interest to ascertain whether any native English speakers were able to comprehend the message conveyed by the speaker.
Who here is surprised?
White lady, the USA swimmers tested positive many times and yet allowed to competed . Double standards from the USA as usual
I feel for these athletes that are trying to compete against juiced-athletes. You can probably put a lot of asterisks in the Olympic record books and the medals are heavily tarnished. I've stopped watching it.

Is she one of the new purple race created by US?
You mean created by Chinese photoshoppers?
I’ve lost all respect for Katie. Breaking records is one thing. Accusing other athletes of cheating because their colleagues were cheating at the Olympics prior to this one? Not only is I unfair, but it speaks to hypocrisy and a xenophobic attitude leaning to racism. Where’s the outrage against Australia’s gold medal dopers (Shayna Jack) that she directly competed against? Where? Nowhere. She would rather point fingers and spread contempt and suspicion against Chinese swimmers who didn’t test positive! Sorry. Not gonna be like the other blind Team USA fans. Team USA swimming has a long history of xenophobic and outright racist behavior towards Chinese swimmers. I didn’t know that Katie Ledecky was a continuation of that. I do now.
Do you just copy and paste your bs under every Chinese swimming dopers video?
@@jackz166 everybody’s entitled to their own opinion. Do you just copy paste the same bs snark on other videos of this nature too?
Many China wumao in comment section
I'm fortunate that I've never been athletic. I've never aspired to be any kind of competitive athlete. Between doping and gender horse hockey I can't imagine how disspiriting it must be to try to function in that world.
Your worried about 1/10th of 1 percent of all athletes.
No surprise that the Chinese will cheat if they think they can get away with it. As for Russians, they've been serial cheaters.
And the USA won't cheat if you think this swimmer here doesn't do drugs then you're ignorant, she's clearly juiced just watch her swim.
@@michealrosenmaybe usa should ask the Australian if they using the juice since they are losing to them
@@kevinnn23 the difference is when you watch the Australians they ain't 10 meters ahead like ledecky, also the way she moves and acts is not normal she's doping 100 percent
No surprise you're not ashamed to text this nonsense because fentanyl is so cheap and affordable in the US.
They're all on roids, especially the ones that dominate their sport like Katie

You and I broke God's law & Jesus paid the price. He who hears My (Jesus) word and believes in Him (God) who sent Me has everlastng life. John 5:24 Do you fear death? Jesus died for you, repent and believe!
Idc what anyone says, the human body should not be going through that much training in the water - AND out of the water. Technically, she should be healthy and vibrant! At 27, she honestly looks around 40-45. She looked tired and worn out. This type of nonstop training really has aged her.
Absolutely correct.
Actually, I guess we may be overstating the issue. The other segment about her shows her as a teen and she's always looked homely.
@@alexthompson9516 lol 😂 I agree… I still don’t think it’s right to put the body through that much stress, but when I saw the Michael Jordan video with her as a baby, I thought 🤔… maybe that’s just how she has always looked.
Shameful

Absolutely. Stevie Wonder can see it....especially when that receding hairline is exposed.
Ready for war???? That last guy can’t even breathe 😮
I still think the IOC approved mediocre biological male swimmers in the event will take them!
It's almost like there are cultural differences between groups of people... and everyone knows them, but continues to pretend they don't exist.
It is called wokeism, political correctness on steroids.
??? tf are both are you talking about?? they’re talking about performance enhancing drugs
You seem too scared to say something! For goodness sake, there are huge differences between different people, cultures, subcultures, races, ages, and genders. Any of those can have better or worse practices, indeed both combined.
