There are some good options for controlling chromatic mode. I can recommend the akai mpk mini plus, the m-audio Oxygen Pro mini but this keyboard out of all them you can a bit deeper and program the knobs for the fx. Not sure that is possible with the others with out loading some editor software on a computer
FYI to anybody considering buying this: It has a very low build quality, the keys feel like they could literally fall off, and it just overall feels very cheaply made
I feel like the build is about the same as and better than some of the other similarly priced well known brand of mini controllers. Not really comparing the keys but the build of this is more solid than the Novation minilab mk3 and the arturio minilab mk3.
I’ve been looking for something like this to use with the Tracker Mini, I’ll research this one but I need midi out trs or 5 pin. Is this usb only? 8:16 think I got the answer!
For sure. I looked at that one as well at one point. What are you trying to do with it? If you want to program the knobs like this it won't be as easy. You'll have to connect to a computer and do it with the novation components editor.
@@LiftedNoise with that said, it's possible to (once you connect the mini mk to a computer and program the knobs to play sounds like a piano) will it still be necessary to keep it plugged into the computer? Newbie question.
@@LiftedNoiseI got the mpc one … lo fi 12 … smpltrk… and the tracker … all samplers don’t need that many but u know how sample heads love they samplers
@charliemalave1184 Well, another option I could suggest is investing in FL studio mobile for about $15 it has some decent stock sounds and expansions for cheap, but also, you can put any of your one shot instruments into its sampler and it will autochramtically be set across the keys and at a wider range then the SP itself and I believe the sustain works on it. Koala sampler maybe something worth testing as well but I haven't tried the sustain with it to tell you

This is an amazing find!!! The fact that this keyboard actually has proper MIDI out and doesn't require a MIDI host is a game changer. Going to have to grab one of these. Do you know if the keyboard midi socket is 3.5mm TYPE A? If so you wouldn't even need that Boss/Roland cable just a 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo male to male.
I'm not sure what type it is.. but wouldn't the sp also need the right type. It's confusing to keep track of. I've tried about 4 others and none worked other than the boss one.
@@LiftedNoise From the pictures of the keyboard it looks as if its a 3.5mm jack input socket, exactly the same as the SP midi in and out. And the keyboard looks like it also comes bundled with a 3.5mm stereo jack (male) to midi din (female) convertor? What I'm saying is (if keyboard is type A) you shouldn't require any midi din socket/cable at all. I'll give you an example, if you connect a Roland Compact (T-8, J-6, S-1) to the SP all you need is just a regular 3.5mm to 3.5mm stereo audio cable (male to male) straight into the midi ports, no midi din whatsoever. Roland + Korg are type A (as are most) and all type B means is the 3.5mm jack socket is wired the other way round which is dumb and a massive pain. Posted a link for the kind of cable you might be able to get away with rather than using a convertor cable and an adapter. I feel your pain on the current state of midi sockets, not fun at all. www.amazon.com/UGREEN-Braided-Auxiliary-Headphones-Speakers/dp/B088CZLHGL/ref=sr_1_5?crid=1PVFU5UABD6M1&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.9Ch436ffV3MgKb_1TKHYFUpRt04w3j1vbo21ZHZV5tZoJqtUDuQp7ipGuHYz2d2Bt7NBfHNUSKH9YdfyO3LFuhEWmJBgrEN6hXxpSxER0DJfL2hzP20W3eyBOd7p5cH7zA9_HJ4Ssc2_4sLoYOGKlh8FO7ksGER4szChuEIK7Dt2m1wzZGFRrr47rFisp6-1tTzPnrJlKVtItPg-5GLo5DN9iD0DPMzsS07tCd8IJT0.j1np0Avn2WNp79U3nZDxT2uR6kmeV4VIfVExoRznifg&dib_tag=se&keywords=3.5mm%2Bto%2B3.5mm%2Bstereo%2Bcable%2Bmale%2Bto%2Bmale&qid=1708160575&sprefix=3.5mm%2Bto%2B3.5mm%2Bstereo%2Bcable%2Bmale%2Bto%2Bma%2Caps%2C362&sr=8-5&th=1
No it will not. The USB on the mk2 is for audio both ways and MIDI Control for other software it does not bus power usb midi devices. The akai mpk mini plus would be the best option but there little convertor boxes called a usb host that will convert usb midi only controllers and send out through 5 pin midi to control hardware devices but that's just an extra cost, wires and all that.
I hadn't considering it but from I see in the MIDI Implementation chart, you would have to change the channel to 3 for bus 2 and channel 4 for bus 4, it looks like the midi cc#s remain the same. So in theory I think I could just go in and change the channel for the knobs and I'd be set..🤔 thanks for the idea 🙏

Ended up buying this. Quick question though. Does the chromatic mode only work with pad 1 in bank a or am I doing something wrong?
Midi channel 16 for chromatic mode
@@LiftedNoise yeah. I did what you showed in the video. But chromatic mode is only effecting pad 1, bank A.

@jordanmann8377 i believe you program the software and send the info through the cable and once this is saved you can disconnect from the computer.
I just got some equipment back all samplers but I loved my sp mk 2 … and this just combo is so dope… and that sample n beat is fire

yeh my SP-404mkii- for chromatic notes@@LiftedNoise
Nice. Wish I'd seen this vid before I bought my Novation Mini. It's good but this controller looks better.
How this midi connect with the sp?
With this cable. I recommend the 5 foot, it's what I have. www.zzounds.com/a--3946631/item--BOSMIDI
Have you been able to use a sustain pedal when in chromatic mode?
No I don't believe that works. I guess a work around might be to turn gate off and adjust decay.
@@LiftedNoise Thanks. For some sounds that will work , but shame it can't easily act like a keyboard with proper sustain.
