You owe it to yourself to listen to every song Bowie ever made. Every Brit has the duty to know him. This guy was a musical genius. Edit: also a genuinely good and smart guy
Bowie was recording in a studio right by the Berlin Wall (before it was torn down) for this album (Heroes) and saw a couple kissing by the barbed wire and the Wall. Bowie is fantastic. I was decimated by his death as it was so sudden. I started listening and buying albums of Bowie in 1971 and he is my favorite artist.
You picked a good one here !! This song became an "Anthem" !! Earl Slicks haunting guitar line, is genius. Love your reaction and I enjoyed watching you listen. Keep it up !!
Bowie was the first artist that when he died it really got to me. He smashed the mould, made it cool to be weird. Whilst I love The Beatles and The Stones, for me, Bowie is the most influential British artist that we've ever had.
I can totally see why Bowie had such a big impact on you. Even though this was my first time hearing his music, I can already tell how influential and unique he was. He is very different. Thanks for sharing your thoughts!
You’ve pretty much posted what intended, except that he’s the ONLY musical artist whose death affected me, and I’ve been a maverick and artist all my life. It’s the range of his styles that is truly astonishing. Easily the greatest of all time worldwide to my mind - not just British. @RNDReacts: please listen to some of his earlier stuff too to get an idea of his astounding range, maybe starting with something from his most famous album, Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders from Mars, or even earlier, such as the spine-tingling Life on Mars from the album Changes.
David Bowie is THE BEST! "Young Americans", "Modern Love", "Golden Years", "Fascination", "Suffragette City", "Five Years", "Changes", "Blue Jean", "Diamond Dogs", "Jean Genie", "Hang Onto Yourself", "Watch That Man", "Starman", "Space Oddity", "Station to Station" and on & on... His death was a total gut-punch most of us fans still can't get over.
Such a huge song. Influenced so many people and covered by everyone. A massive song. I have seen a substantial number of artists over the years but seeing Bowie in concert somehow was the most magical.
My alarm would go off at 5am, and I’d put the news on and lay in bed just listen. They report that David Bowie had passed. I sat up and burst into tears. I loved him sine I was 13 years old. I had his Ziggy Stardust photo in my locker in high school. He was a profoundly important influence on how anyone can be different, and constantly reinvent yourself. I never felt like I fit in… through most of my life. And you know…. David taught me a long time ago that was okay. So even today when I look at the midnight sky, the stars just don’t burn as bright with him gone. 💔🌟💔🌟💔
He was in Berlin when he produced this album. The wall he is singing about is the "Berliner Mauer", where many people were shot trying to get from East-Germany to West-Germany.
The greatest rock song ever written and performed by the greatest rock star of all time. The Live Aid version is even better and well worth checking out. There are so many magical Bowie moments, but you might wanna check out the Ashes to Ashes video, still the greatest music video ever made, despite being made in 1980. Bowie's performance of Starman on Top of the Pops in 1972, helped turn him into an international superstar. Or you could try his Glastonbury rendition of Wild is the Wind from 2000. PS. Going forward, it would be best if you whacked up the volume, and you can add an extension that gets rid of those annoying end cards that come up at the end of the video.
This was his best version of this song. Spent years trying different ways to sing and play it. Not very successful. He didn't give up and glad he didn't. Knocked it out of the park here. 😊
Great reaction! This song came out at a really chaotic time in my life, touring with a band, just broke up with a girlfriend. It would come on the radio while we were traveling in a van. Just made me feel alive, like you said. Bowie had a long career with great albums, reinventing himself every couple of years, never staying the same. There are earlier albums, but Ziggy Stardust and the Spiders From Mars is a great one. Moonage Daydream is my favorite track off it.
This song remains remarkable and has been used in many movies and shows, perhaps the most important was Christiane F. It is in German, but was just such an important look into social issues back in the 80s.
This man is awesome. So much musical magic. Try starting maybe with Five years, or Life On Mars, or Space Oddity, or Song For Bob Dylan or Jean Genie or Changes or Rebel, Rebel or Width of A Circle or Starman...but there are too many to choose from that are so awesome!
✨🦬✨ .. he has that voice , I can see that you like it. There are many Bowie songs to dive into .... but I am going to recommend his collaboration with Queen. You know Queen already .. they did the song "Under Pressure" with Freddie Mercury & David Bowie on vocals. Incredible ✨🦬✨
There is a live / studio version of Bowies version of a song also covered by the wonderful Nina Simone ... worth checking out both ( a twosome would be an amazing video ??? ) song is 'WILD IS THE WIND (off his Station to Station album ..... one of twqo albums the other FAME acknowledged as his THIN WHITE DUKE period ) ... great reaction btw xx

I would encourage you as I am a new listener , to always try and listen to the original audio first and react to that first. It’s as the artist would intend the listener to hear their music …when you listen to a live version, the quality can be bad, sometimes it’s way too fast, it’s just different. just a suggestion, I love your reactions. The song is based on true events in Berlin, Germany. One of the heroes was David’s producer Tony Visconti.
