I think this performance alone should quash firmly any criticism of this magisterial musician's technique: it is, quite simply, one of the greatest interpretations of this great work. It is on a completely inspired plane from start to finish.
Echt fantastische Aufführung dieser romantischen Fantasie im gut phrasierten Tempo mit klarem Anschlag und effektiver Dynamik. Ihre Virtuosität ist noch völlig unterhalten!
Overall, I prefer this to her concert performance. The second movement here is better, even though she struggles in the first line with her left hand spread chords, and the Coda is patchy and less than scintillating. I much prefer her final movement here, but there are still some liberties, such as rushing the arpeggio figures under the two-bar held chords each time, and ignoring the sf markings on the weak beats in bars 66 & 67, and where they repeat. Also, she doesn't do a gradual cresc. e accel. in the great final climax, but abruptly ups the tempo as soon as the LH melody is over, leaving me completely lacking in tingle. The laurels must still go to the first two I heard - Horowitz and Argerich, though several others so nearly judge it right. It may be true that the one with whom you lost your 'Fantasie virginity' is always going to be the most special !

I love this lady. But this is such a shame as she rushes to the great 3rd mvmt chord climaxes both times. Only Richter & Askenazy fully understand
doodlethecat only Richter, Ashkenazy and you? Ha...
