Dances With Wolves and Kicking Bird Visit a Sacred Place (with deleted footage)

- According to the credits, this scene is called the "Broken Forest" scene. Kicking Bird (Graham Greene) takes Dances With Wolves (Kevin Costner) to a sacred place...even sacred to Sioux enemies. This scene contains material deleted from the original movie version. Very powerful stuff. IMHO, the unedited version is way better than the original theatrical version because it gives so much more insight. The movie is amazing anyway and is my favorite of all-time.

the soundtrack and cinematography are nothing short of awesome!
He was telling him that Stand's w/a fist & him were working on having a baby...
Kicking Bird says, "...and no waiting?" "We shall call you The Busy Bee...then..."
This movie is a masterpiece
Yes, I believe this is very near Jackson, Wyo. You can see Mt. Moran in the right side of the scene. It's the mountain with the flattish top. The mountain scene, combined with the slow flow of the Snake River and the golden early Autumn Aspens in the valley, make this scene absolutely spectacular.
Absolutely
They probably filmed it in Norway or some
Shit
One "cut" I wish they had kept in the movie. It leaves an incredibly powerful message.
I really need to see the extended version. They cut so much out of it! Just wow.
The rough cut was 5 and a half hours long. Even more was left on the cutting room floor.
we can only imagine @@paulsteel9127
The movie is a great one and the music makes it even greater!!
One of my top 10 movies
of all time!
It's a beauty--- full scene with an important message...glad it's available here. Thank you.
I loved this movie...music everything
Thank you for posting this clip.....love this movie!!
The deleted scens are so powerful. I was so happy when I saw the director's cut of this film. Gave me an even greater respect.
damn i need to see that
You can sense kicking birds concern .
one of the best film ever made
Couldn't agree more handsome
I think your incredibly handsome BTW
I can feel the fresh air of prairies.
The Lakota Nation is in My Prayers 😎 and Blood Forever, Whas-te/Amen.
This is beautiful, thank you.
this was amazing footage, I can see it in the original and making a GREAT impression. WOW!
I wish there were subtitles. I'd like to know what
they are saying.
This shorter version has English subtitles (which can be translated into other languages via "settings"): ua-cam.com/video/pR6HtBFYCKc/v-deo.html
In my playlist “Dances with Wolves ...” I have arranged the 76 UA-cam videos that contain original parts of this film (without trailers) + 9 interviews of the main actors etc., hopefully all in the correct order so that you can experience this impressive film again at least approximately / partially (if you want to save the price for a paid full version). Have fun with it!
It's basically about hiw white folks came through and messed it up for everybody
I thought they were going to come across Kevin Costner's mansion when they were riding along....
I believe you are on the path of a true human being
I was talking about the area from a historical point, not a filming perspective. I'm pretty sure the Grand Teton National Park was established in 1929, so in 1860 when the film takes place it wasn't the National Park. The Teton range didn't have any religious meaning to Native Americans, while the Black Hills was considered the center of the universe to the Sioux and Cheyenne.
... to the Cheyenne. The Sioux encroached and pushed the Cheyenne out between 1830-1860-ish. The Black Hills is sacred to the Sioux only because they say it is.
Gorgeous
2:27: incredible , even in a movie with so many incredible scenes.
Every time that look this film and, I wonder, why the emotion catches me so strongly, my eyes start to shine?! ... because inside me I feel pulse the heart of a Native. I don't play to do "the indian"!
I lived a long period of my life as a lieutenant Dunbar, then the turning point and I realized that surviving, it is not living.
I'm only human being, as a Native of another land, that has rediscovered the joy of living with respect and in harmony with Mother Earth.
Hic ;-)
All these deleted scenes are on my DVD.
Beautiful
i feel bad for native Americans they are such great people wiht great culture
They have freedom to be and do what they want.
@@BillHosko They had their homes taken from them and forced into a culture foreign to them.
@@BillHosko they dont have freedom.they cant grow what they want the way they want and they cant have amount of animals they want.educate yourself
We're treated badly taken off land and put in canyon to starve. Spent two weeks working with the navajo was an awesome experience, my first work and witness experience the native Americans are awesome the ladies and children cried the day we left for home will never forget these precious people!
Land
the path of a true human being, There is much to learn
Excelente videos
magical movie
well done
"Wasichu!...Wasichu!"
The Lakota received a settlement back in the 1990's for the government's intrusion on their sacred land. It goes unclaimed to this day. I don't blame them. There are certain things worth more than money. By all rights, they should still be the caretakers of that area..
OF COURSE IT GOES UNCLAIMED ,IT WAS A PITIFULLY INADEQUATE OFFER FOR EVEN NORMAL LAND NEVER MIND THE PA HA SAPPA LIKE OFFERING CHRISTIAN GOD BOTHERERS MONEY FOR THE VATICAN TO BUILD A HOUSING ESTATE,HUNH WHEN WILL WHITE AMERICANS EVEN START TO GET THE MESSAGE ,I AM GUESSING NEVER ,AS LONG AS THE DOLLAR IS KING
@@grioghairmacgrioghair5311 No need to capitalise like a moron, type like a decent human being.
No one is going to take whatever you typed seriously.
@montanadoctor they wouldn't be, if they still had their land!
and yer packing yer bags to go back to Europe...
i love the song
Pls post the full movie of this video...more thanks
Typically, in the UK the director's cut on DVD is unavailable. We are so poorly served by this and so much else in this limited little island.
My thoughts exactly.
What time of year was this? Late August, early September?
I will learn Lakota!
All I know is that the guy who played Spivey was awesome... he made me positively hate that character
If Kicking Bird was upset about seeing that abandoned lot, I wonder what his reaction would be to seeing Detroit.
If they've these deleted scenes on DVD,I want it.
there could be a translation?
The following shorter clips, which together correspond exactly to the one above, contain German resp. English subtitles:

An American Classic.
@sard37 the original version was over 4 hours long before costner trimmed it down
My GOD!! Look at that country!!
@grandephil not really, it doesn't go as far as you'd think and it could never compensate what we have stolen from them.
yet you don't go back 'home'...
remember I cried for ages when i saw them shot the wolf :'(
than cry again and again you stupid idiot, this is not the point!!!
siempre bailare contigo i con mis Lobos !!!
i dont really get this.. sorry if that sounds dumb. is it bad because the people killed all those animals? can someone explain thanks
@braxtonantoine LOL! That's almost EXACTLY just what I did! And yes, it is GTNP or the adjoining National Forest. It also apears to be very close to my old stomping grounds, the Triangle X Guest Ranch. Check it out!
Can anyone tell me the name of the track that plays at 1:48?
The whole soundtrack is John Barry, all wonderful, DWW, it's all on UA-cam
In showing such disrespect for the land and the animals they hunted, the drunks showed disrespect for themselves. Sickening.
@@rao3704 I bet you shop at Walmart...fucking idiot.
Given time this movie will become a classic, it is brilliant
I know "smiles alot" dance with him at Powwows.. So now who wants my autograph?? AYEEEEEEEEEEEEE LOL!!

I understood this deleted scene .This movie was one of my favorite movies . Shuminitu tanka owaci. This was a sad part. Kicking Bird wants ltd. How many white people will come . The Lakota"s were great people. Kicking Bird is sad.

Thanks so much for this..A MESSAGE FOR US ALL....I believe this is Jackson Hole and the Grand Tetons.

Can someone please tell me where on the Plains you can get a layered mullet?
Yeaah babay yahh
take me there yo know better
the ugly truth was that the white people invaded their lands without permission and made their own laws which today they believe they are the founders of this country we call USA, but in truth it all belonged to the Native American Indians, they are the true founders of this country and yet hardly even recognized. Seeing this movie when I was a kid was truly amazing and touched my heart to understand that there is more to life then to just living, but also discovering who we truly are, as the quote of this movie says "inside all of us, there is a frontier waiting to be discovered"
Self-righteous... Far more Indians died at the hands of other Indians... The Indians invaded this land as well... no people were indigenous... and all the horses? Result of Spaniards "invading".
Quit looking at the past through today's eyes. Things changes, rules change, norms change. What you do today will be condemned by some in 150 years. And also, the Indians were not all just a bunch of early hippies sitting around communing with nature. They warred, they conquered, they enslaved the losers, and took lands and people by force from other tribes. The only difference is a new tribe came in with superior weapons.
Ehh, this was in the movie.
You know, there's a channel where the history errors are discussed but even if there are errors, I think there is truth in how Indian rights were so violated. The shear cruelty of prejudice is horrifying.
There is definitely truth..
gettagrip on reality... Far more Indians died at the hands of other Indians...
Most of the the deleted scenes were very eerie. But this one, to me, topped it all. What a fucking disgrace to treat the animals that way!!!
he sapa
Thank goodness I speak Sioux otherwise this would have been a complete waste of time
lol tetons? isn't that shoshone territory?
Devin Nagitsy-Deepwater they’re called the Teton Sioux.... lol
I have the greatest respect for the native Americans. Today they are classed as 2nd class citizens. People need the remember they were there first. They treated the land as sacred and with reverence. It was an era of unspoiled beauty. Its lost forever
Gettagrip... geez... Reality... no people were indigenous... all humans have arrived here within seconds of each other in Earth time...
U talk rubbish mate
It was good that this scene was deleted. The snake river overlook in grand Teton national park is way to far from where this story took place and most people know it.
The Lakota did travel to the Tetons pretty regularly, It would be a good 3-4 days ride from Fort Sedgewick (Northeastern Colorado) though.
Wasted meat. Big sin , come on think about the balance of nature and life.
Sure... and you put nothing in the trash...
Clip is too murky to see in detail, but looks like Jackson Hole. I agree this is a very powerful scene. Should have been left in the original movie.
so how many people watching this understand sioux? lol no subtitles! why?
You don't need a translation to understand the scene!
See my comment from about a year ago.
Kind regards from southern Germany.
Would have been nice to understand what they were saying. Oh well.
Long live the first Americans.
No one knows who the first Americans were... many different tribes walked the land-bridge over thousands of years time... some survived, others di not... a thousand years before Europeans arrived...
@@BillHosko Its called free movement of people and it should never stop.
The area is probably the Black Hills. It was considered sacred ground to the Sioux, and when the army came rolling in, the Sioux declared war. Custer become one of the war's most famous victims.
not a victim, a killer of women and children. he is considered a shamful example of the american genocide. only someone ignorant of history would call that man a victim. his own family calls him a genocidal murderer.
@@georgewashington6225 ikr!! Who gives a shit about back then, the world is an even crazier place now.
It's called the Black Hills of South Dakota
i feel bad for native Americans
Then give up yer plot and move back to where you came from...
I've been there. But royals stole land .
Would have been more epic if Justin Bieber had been one of the slaughtered animals.
Im a true Indian Ayeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee..
Wow this scene is great on LSD ...just came down from a trip 3 hrs ago I saw this bit ..the sky was shinny ..:) ....and trees were smiling I the wind ...the lingo made no sense ...but was intense and moving at the same time ...the colors were bright in my dark room that guy was crying like that Native American from the 1970s commercial ...epic emotion moment...far out ..! ...I wish I could have a Native American name ..I'd call myself dances with clouds haha lol
You drug addled Fool. MrJR/UK
compared to Lonesome Dove no contest, this was a good movie, like the Palastinians in Isreal I suppose is Cosner's real concept of good and evil. But use the Indians because we are not having to share our Bible's Manifest Distiny in modern times. Also music was not part of reality. Henry Rifles were and then the Winchester with a new loading port.
The Palestinians are not the native people of that land. So your analogy is incorrect. There is no difference between the Palestinians and the other Arabs. The Jewish People have had a historical connection with that land for 4,000 years. Both the Koran and the Torah (the first 5 books of the Old Testament) state that it was God that gave that land to the Jews.
would have been even more epic if justin bieber had co-starred.
