Tbh no actor should take it personally. They should all be like Carrie Ann Moss and, after some sadness, move on with life. Getting attached to a role isn’t good for one’s mental health. Especially if they want to pursue other work.
Love Carrie Anne Moss but her character was dead almost immediately so not much investment for her, easy for her to move on. Not the same for all the less well known actors invested in S2 happening. For them it’s career making or breaking.
I actually loved his character. But they absolutely blew it. They could have focused entirely on Quimir being Venomis and the show could have been Plageuis vs Venomis for the Apprenticeship of Darth Tenebrous. Like THAT is what I fully EXPECTED when this show was first announced. The show being named “The Acolyte” and pitched as a “Sith-focused” show - all we got in reality is a complete DISMANTLING of the Jedi as we knew them. And that was just unacceptable by most!
They sure made the four Jedi look really bad. I'm not too upset about that part (except the actors shouldn't have been subjected to lame Jedi roles), but I wonder if Vernestra is ruined somehow.
There were only four half-decent characters, one got killed straight away (Indara), another died pretty unceremoniously in the first half (Yord), one got "Jake-Skywalkered" and died (Sol) and the last was Qimir. Every other character was some combination of boring, bad and terribly acted. The sooner they just let it die, the sooner the negativity it inspires will die down. I was cautiously optimistic about Skeleton Crew. I'm pretty happy with it so far, for me it's got that Star Wars spark that's been missing from some Disney productions, and I hope it continues to be good.
@@phoenixr6811 It was an enjoyable show, but it was nothing it should have been. There are a lot of great scenes and ideas, but.... it needs a new name, a different approach, and new dynamics. There were lots of problems. 1. She promised a lot and didn't deliver. 2. She was banking on a second season. 3. The Jedi were inept and had terrible motives. Lee Jung-Jae shouldn't have been a bad Jedi, and neither should the actors for Indara, Kelnacca, Osha, Mae, nor the witches been subjected to this writing. 4. She borrowed from the EU, but didn't bring it near George's vision.... I can list more, but that's enough. She can keep writing credits for Qimir, Osha and Mae. I'm pretty sure those are the only characters who would return from her idea. I won't quite insult it with fanfiction, but it's very close.
Why hasn't Disney pushed KK out yet, her decision to allow LH to go far off reservation with what *could* have been good if it wasn't trying to push her agendas and service her fantasies. Going way over budget is further reason to push LH out in favour of someone who can actually make good SW content. Some of the content was good, the acting was pretty decent from the seasoned actors, if someone without agendas and who understood the fandom was at the helm it would have been a hit.
I think they should just recast Cara Dune. If they chose the right actress, one who has a similar look and can give off a believable sense of presence and capability, then I think fandom will role with it easy enough. It doesn't have to be this walking on egg-shells thing at all.
He should've stuck to his guns and kept her in despite what Kennedy said. If the fandom is as toxic and anti-woke as has been claimed, then this would've been a win for Disney proving they aren't pandering and would've sky rocketed their ratings overall.
Leslye Headland is to Star Wars as Chris Chibnall is to Doctor Who. Good ideas but bad writing, poor directing and questionable producing. Qimir was a gem in the rough. Gino said things that was opposite to the company's POV, was asked to stop , she said more. So they did not renew her contact. If Gino wins in the lawsuit, she will still lose. There will be people who will not work with her.
I don't see why they can't just do a spin off that picks up where Acolyte ended... that story is over and the foundation for a new one has been laid out. It can still have the main characters but under a new title which Book of Boba basically was... They can feature Plagueis, Qimir, Venestra and Osha (leave out Mae) and move towards the origins of Palpatine over time.
Yes, I’m always up for a spin-off. That’ the best thing about fictional universes. Spin-offs are always possible. All it takes is good planning and solid writing.
After all this time to think back and rewatch the show, I do want a second chance for the show. But it has to bring more into it. It felt like a movie script that was stretched into a show. It put me to sleep. Had to watch it tomany times to get into it. Now I am lost with a story that had no end. Good or bad finish what you started as my father would say.
I’m in agreement that this show just didn’t deliver, and I’m not sure a season two has a cats chance in hell of getting green lit. I also agree if they did then it would require new show runners because the cost went out of control and it looked worse than any of the other shows Disney have made for Star Wars. I’m not a fan of the visuals that Disney have created for that age in the galaxy, especially the Jedi robes. They just don’t look serious with white and yellow robes. I know some people didn’t like Ahsoka, but I thought it was really good. It left off at an interesting point in the story, but one point bugged me, there was no hug between Hera and Ezra at the end. That felt weird to me, because they were like family.
I think a movie would be more in order. But hey, it was a good concept, just the execution was fumbled. Qimir was one of the best things about it and I think the actor should get another shot at it at some point.
Its weird, cuz the second season of the Acolyte is canned, but i have seen merch (mainly toys) at Wal*Mart here in the States, just last month. I thought all possible merch has been pulled. So why am I seeing toys of the show??
I might be the odd man out here but as a person who saw the original Star Wars in theaters I really liked this one. Back in the day we never criticized anything especially Star Wars. We just took it for what it was. Even when episode 1 came out in 99 not all folks liked it but we just took it for what it was and it got better with each episode
People are just far too emotional and reactionary these days. Everything is either the best thing ever or the worst thing ever. Most of the time, things are just average.
I hope it gets a season 2. there's way too many universe effecting storylines. there's plenty of other disliked shows in the past, and they are still complete stories. edit imo a sign of compitulating to your viewers in order to have incomplete canon is a gasp of a dying franchise.
Im trying to dodge spoilers for skeleton crew because can't watch it yet. Also I really hope there isnt more seasons of Acolyte, it'll be a waste of money
From all the events in the final episode, we need to see the Jedi temples of Yavin 4 and Lothal, Darth Malgus in live action, and we really need to see the first Skywalker in the acolyte season 2 or a sequel movie. Maybe we can see a lightsaber duel between Vernestra Rwoh and Qimir in the second season. We could see Baylan Skoll in tales of the Empire season 2. Let's hope Gina Carano's character returns in the mandalorian movie and I can't wait to see Luke Skywalker meeting Ezra Bridger for the first time in Ahsoka season 2. Besides, everybody needs to forget the lame lawsuits.
Do you know why I want The Acolyte to have a second season? Qimir! He is my dream Sith Lord. He takes " seducing someone to the Dark Side." literally. He entraps his victim with gentle words and undeniable points. I'd join him in a minute. Bring back the Acolyte, so Qimir can work his magic on me again!
There are plenty of shows with truly awful 1st seasons with interesting concepts that had people who still believed in the premise or the story and were willing to rework the show or story and let it fix the issues. Streaming doesn't do this anymore, and I think it's a bad sign for the franchise that the first live action story set outside of the same 30 year period of the pt and ot has been so thoroughly retreated from by Disney. They need more people who are like Tony Gilroy in the driver's seat, someone who can stand up to the Disney corporate scrutiny that pushes the common streaming model at the sacrifice of story and plot.
Yes, I agree. There were a lot of regular TV shows where the 1st season or a significant portion of the 1st season aren't very good. It's like the writers, actors, and directors need to get comfortable with the characters and the story before it really takes off. A lot of really good shows were like this. There is this instantaneous feedback now that makes Disney gun-shy around a lot of negativity. the Solo movie got a lot of negative feedback so they turned Kenobi into a TV show. WTF? Kenobi probably would have done better as a trilogy of movies.
I'm watching Stargate SG 1 rn. It's first season is ROUGH. It would have been cancelled today but instead it got more than 7 seasons and several spinoffs. Corporations have never been more impatient and greedy to get returns on their "investments". TV and movies are so much more than parts of a business portfolio.
I'm probably one of the few people on the planet who genuinely LIKED the Acolyte. Don't get me wrong, it had its flaws, but I didn't think it was trash like a bunch of other people did. The ending was a bit of a letdown because the girls being willing to separate again just didn't make sense. It made even less sense for Qimir to be willing to risk having her running around with what she knows. Sure, he 'wiped her memory' but you can't tell me there wouldn't be a way to fix that. Some issues with sequencing can probably be fixed post-production with some editing, to be honest. But there was a lot of good in it. A story that casts the Jedi as well-meaning but often flawed, more human (ish) and prone to the same issues that we know eventually become their downfall is really good, and seeing other force traditions and how they're treated in the galaxy is incredible. And there are so many questions left to be answered that it really sucks that everyone had such a bad reaction to it. We're less likely to get those answers. And I don't think any of the problems in the first season can't be made better if they felt there was a market for it. Long rant short: I wish they'd go ahead with season 2, make improvements and let the effort speak for itself.
Acolyte was a much better story than 75% of the other shit out on the market right now. If Star Wars fans really didn't like it, they can pack their bags and go watch the really shitty shit out there... and I promise I hate LGBTQIA+ bull shit more than you do.
I hope it does. I think a lot of the hate came from the more infantile audiences. If you've matured enough to know, you'll have probably recognized the deeper, darker tones and where the story was likely headed. It's not one for little kids with a monotone understanding of morality/right and wrong. At least not exclusively. It needs another season to bear fruit. It is "The Acolyte", not 'The Jedi youngling', or 'the ewok'.
I won't be watching if it returns. The writing was horrendous. For me to try it again, there would have to be some big change in the writing and direction. As for Gina Carano, I would love to see her return.
Nah, he was obviously “people-pleasing” and telling the crown what they wanted to hear to get an “ooooh aaaah” excited response from them. There is Zero chance of another season getting the go-ahead.
I liked Acolyte, it wasn’t perfect but it was better than Boba Fett by miles and I think probably better than Obi Won also. Not as good as Ashoka, most Mando and Andor which is the best but still enjoyable. Better than Skeleton Crew by a lot based on the first episode.
Hi Meg, awesome news update, I agree with you Meg they should of brought out Darth Plaguis earlier, so it is their own fault it failed, great news about Ahsoka 2, and Mando movie, Gina Carrano did wrong but Cara Dune did not do anything wrong, thank you SWM
Maybe Disney shouldn’t have been so fascist and fired her for having different political opinions. Someone inside Disney/Lucasfilm needs to speak up for the fans and against this woke non-sense.

I'm so confused by lots of people(including you, Meg) saying the Acolyte was a terrible depiction of the Jedi. Like, do you think the prequel/clone wars Jedi were good at it? The Jedi have always been extremely flawed and often wrong. This includes Yoda and Obi-wan in the original trilogy but is expanded upon in the prequels. They have good ideals, but because they are too rigid and political they often fail to meet those ideals. I feel like the Acolyte was faithful to that.

I feel like this would bring the story of “Star Wars The Acolyte” to popularity making it like a three season run of Plagueis searching for a worthy successor for the Sith Legacy, I know it will bring extreme backlash for me to say all this but I would personally love to see Qimir back at it and how his and Plagueis’ story would pan out
Tbh no actor should take it personally.
Bringing back Gina will see the biggest woke meltdown yet, fingers crossed it happens.
The only way they can properly do Darth Plagueis is by just turning the entire novel into a show without removing _anything_
Disney can still do right by Gina and hire her back, but I doubt they will.
I have to agree. Leslye could have writing credits, but it needs to be someone else *re* creating it.
I’m sorry but that made no sense what you just said🤔. She came up with the concept (writing/create) of the Acolyte how is she not to create it.
Early wow. I liked skeleton crew. Feels like Star wars
the Acolyte has a lot of problems but I’d watch a season with Plagueis taking out mei, osha, and Qimir.
I think they should just recast Cara Dune. If they chose the right actress, one who has a similar look and can give off a believable sense of presence and capability, then I think fandom will role with it easy enough. It doesn't have to be this walking on egg-shells thing at all.
It definitely has potential.
The show should have another season. There was too many cool things/people to just forget about them. Just have a different director.
It would be utter self deleting for them to recast Cara. They’ll probably do it, they haven’t completely killed Lucas Film yet
They could take the end of The Acolyte and transition the story into an adaptation of the Plagueis/Palpatine origin story.
I think Star Wars Ahsoka season 2 is going to be so awesome.
He should've stuck to his guns and kept her in despite what Kennedy said. If the fandom is as toxic and anti-woke as has been claimed, then this would've been a win for Disney proving they aren't pandering and would've sky rocketed their ratings overall.
There is no season 2. Is there???
@@DaleESkywalker all things are possible thru the force.
What was the “shocking tease”?
If they want to recast the character of Balin Russell Crowe is a great choice Maybe
I enjoyed the first season and it felt like it got better as it went along.
Love Qimir - The Stranger. He will make season 2 happen if possible.
“It’s dead Jim!!!” 😅
Do a graphic novel and call it done. Leslie and Kennedy could be done for money laundering at this point
cannot wait for this
The power of one, the power of two, the power of blowing hundreds of millions of dollars
Disney can’t keep doing this
If they cut out the story and just do lightsaber combat similar to the first season I’d probly watch it…..
Cara Dune should come back for sure
I hope it gets a season 2. there's way too many universe effecting storylines. there's plenty of other disliked shows in the past, and they are still complete stories.
edit imo a sign of compitulating to your viewers in order to have incomplete canon is a gasp of a dying franchise.
Im trying to dodge spoilers for skeleton crew because can't watch it yet. Also I really hope there isnt more seasons of Acolyte, it'll be a waste of money
I dug acolyte. 👾💫
Manny yes! Acolyte No! Bring in new creatives to make a true Sith story.
As long as they don't bring back that actress.
I suspect The Acolyte will be continued, but, in comic book, or novel form where the cost to risk ratio is significantly lower.
I knew it I knew they wouldn't end it with a cliff hanger!
If Gina is not Kara, I am not interested.
The actors in The Acolyte dont give a crap about the show. The only reason they upset is the actors are out of work at the moment.
*Rangers of the New Republic* is being built upon, rather than repurposed (I hope). I think Patty's project is just on hold for now.
You are the best Starwars Utuber. The only one with true class.
It's an absolute disaster. Honestly speaking even much worse than the sequel movies
Acolyte and star wars franchise is getting boosted up! 👍
New director. New writers. Then we shall see.
good work Meg🎉
Great review but f the haters, I liked The acolyte the problem are most of the star wars lovers are stuck in one way of star wars
Gina's a sweet girl. She just needed to learn to stop when she was asked.
Why wont Disney stop Rachel Ziegler then? Double standard
@@captainDJ87 When do people listen? They like the publicity from stupidity. 🤣
Have they asked Rachel to stop? They might have learned that doesn't work with the personality. I ignore most of those who have no filter.
Maybe Disney shouldn’t have been so fascist and fired her for having different political opinions. Someone inside Disney/Lucasfilm needs to speak up for the fans and against this woke non-sense.
@@nateriley4067 What's _fascist_ about not wanting someone working for you who's alienating your customers? I get that she didn't mean things she said the ways some people took them, but that's what they saw and they were canceling their subscriptions because of the drama.
They asked her to stop and she did something different, but the same nonsense. Would you want someone working for you who alienates your fans and customers?
I’m still curious on the purpose of Darth Plageious being in Qimir’s hideout?
Plageuis probably felt that his apprentice was going to use his creations to destroy himself
Manny true identity I think was a young Palpatine
I'm so confused by lots of people(including you, Meg) saying the Acolyte was a terrible depiction of the Jedi. Like, do you think the prequel/clone wars Jedi were good at it? The Jedi have always been extremely flawed and often wrong. This includes Yoda and Obi-wan in the original trilogy but is expanded upon in the prequels. They have good ideals, but because they are too rigid and political they often fail to meet those ideals. I feel like the Acolyte was faithful to that.
A season 2? I got a bad feeling about this. 😉
Session 2!? That's not true. THAT'S IMPOSSIBLE!
It's too early for April Fools. 😂
