    I was just talking to Dave today, and he directed me over to this vid. I'm glad ya'll had such a great time up in the Andirondacks. I was talking to him about a knife I just received, and ended up ordering two other knives. His attention to detail and over all workmanship is outstanding! Excellent review!

      You just can't do any better than his knives. We used the large blades to process some new lodge poles while we were there. They absolutely excelled at that task.
      Thanks for checking out the channel!

    Thanks for an awesome review, well thought out! I'm on the list for my first Beck, a WSK in October of 21. Dave's knives seem so well designed and finished, can't wait to actually try mine out.

    That is nice system there obviously was a lot of thought and time put in to that. It looks like it would adapt very nicely to my vest and expansion pack system for more carrying options.

    I am a "leather guy", I ran a boot repair and leather craft shop for 4 years (not enough business in boot repair to maintain it in the modern world). "Tooling" leather is any kind of oak tanned leather. Bridal generally a form of oil tanned leather but not always. Your friend may simply be talking about the weight (Thickness) of the leather used in the sheaths. They appear to be 10oz leather.

    Awesome rig and nice video but let's be honest, everything we do in the woods could be done by a $40 Buck 119 from WalMart. The reason we buy other knives is because we are knife addicts. Also agree with the rooster comments.
    Thanks for the video.

    • @MichaelTravis12c27

      You are absolutely right. Dave will tell anyone who asks that a good Mora and an Ontario machete will do whatever you need to do in the woods. these certainly aren't needs. they sure are nice though!

    Say Heah again, I just got a knife that I waited for a while. The way Busse markets their knives, I knew if I didn't get this Cerakote Green American Flag ASH-1, I might never see one again, But what surprised me, is how similar Mr. Becks Knife look's to my Green American Flag Cerakote ASH-1. The handle is different and mine is more Tactical looking with the skull crusher pommel, But the contour of the handle feels very comfortable and Extremelly balanced, for such a thick (.320") and the Magnum Handle Knife, I really would of liked a satin finish, but no such luck because only a few knives were made in this specification (about 5), All my other Busse Combat Knives are in the Black G-10 and no coatings, But the way this green flag cerakote is, it's not only eye candy but you can tell it's a very usable knife, Mine is a Flat Zero Grind and came scary sharo, I just went to Mr. Becks Website and saw a Nessmuk paper knife I liked. What steel does he use, Thanx in advance, and a Merry Christmas, , ,

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27  8 років тому

      I only own 1 Busse but I love it! It's a Battle Mistress, I figure if you're only going to own 1, that's the one to have!

    • @paulie4x1
      @paulie4x1 8 років тому

      Yes, your absolutly. correct the Battle Mistress, After I saw Noss do a destruction video when I use to belong to the defunct Knife Test, I knew right there I wanted a B M , But when I was ready to pull the trugger the only B M that was available at that time was the Anneversary Straight Handle Battle Mistress since I didn't want the blade coated, I got the LE, then the Busse addiction took off heh heh heh, then came the Anneversary Mean Street LE, and so on and on, Today all my Busse Combat Knives are in the Black G-10 and no coatings, except for my Green American Flag Cerakote which I just got Friday, and Wednesday I got my Second Swamp Rat INFI which I had thinned down, it came out a Saber Flat Grind and is near a High Scandi, It's awesome, Take care, , ,

    I invented this knife carry style recently after finding an enormous bolo style machete 1/2" thick laying in the street getting run over by traffic. this knife is just to big and heavy to carry any other way than messenger bag style. Here I see you already invented my invention and here you have it! THanks for letting me see in the flesh what I could only previously imagine

  • @knifebomber
    @knifebomber 10 років тому +1

    Great video! I love Dave's work. I have one of his original Pathfinder sets, that's alot like your set, just more of a bolo type of large blade. I do love the carry system! I need to fix my set up that way to carry.

  • @MrMadhouse70
    @MrMadhouse70 10 років тому +2

    I must say i like the idea to carry the knifes like like this. Even if a belt carry option is what i prefer i have issues with that both summer time and winter time. In a boat or canote is extrem anoying and in winter time with alot of clothes its hard to grab the knife. In this system you can do whatever you like for diffrent mission. Really beutiful knifes and well made sheath. The only thing i can complain about is that is not ambidextrous. Maybe it not will be as beutiful then but its bad that maybe a lefty who love this rig will say. NoNo. Thanks for a good rewiev.

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27  10 років тому

      I'm not sure how you would do this as an ambidextrous sheath system unless you eliminated the belt loop option. I absolutely LOVE this method of carry though. Especially with being able to tie it to your belt. The weight of the kit just disappears and everything is so accessible and yet doesn't get in the way.

    I like it looks like an awesome package really nice sheath system, one thing I would suggest is bringing the grind closer to the handle on the small one and on the large one get rid of the finger choil and bring that grind as close as you can to the handle.

    Great way to carry the system. To bad the buckles on the webbing are plastic. I think this attachment to the belt is a good idea but maybe use some elastic strap for it?

    Now this is a nice knife set, before the warmer weather came, I was also using a 2knife system, I used different knives and they worked out well, but my fav. go to set was my Swamp Rat Rodent 7 and the Rodent 4, both have choil's and I like a choil on my knives, both are Saber Grind and again my fav. But now that the weather warned up I'm trying a lighter carry, even though before a hatchet and a saw were present most of the time, lately a 4-6" blade with a Wicked Tough Saw made by Wicked Tree Gear and my 2Hawks Double Bit Hatchet made by 2Hawks a 2 blade Pocket Knife is replacing my heavier winter carry, I'm actually wanting to have a Nessmuk Knife made, and I was just wondering if I could talk to your knife maker before he gets too busy, please do me a favore can you have him send me a private e-mail so I can discuss what I want, Thank You I'm advance.

      Deano BTN Unfortunately I don't think he will be producing this exact set. He has revamped his entire lineup and made some serious upgrades and improvements to the sheath system so that it will be compatible across his entire lineup. I know he is redoing the website to reflect all the changes but I don't know when it will be published. I looked at the lineup and the new modular sheaths on Easter Sunday and everything looks good to go. All I can say is stay tuned to the site. The new sheath system is awesome!!

    Say Heah, Today was a Happy Day. A while ago, I bought a Case Pawnee Fix Blade without a Sheath, The knife was in excellent condition and I got it at a good price, I Prayed and my Prayer was answered, After I called Case because it was disconnected awhile ago they didn't have any Sheath's for it. But the lady gave me a number to call, Anyhow when I called tgat nice guy, He said Heah, I made a Custom Sheath for a guys Pawnee and he might sell you his, The sheath came in near perfect condition. Later at the same Pawn shop I bought a Bianchi Hollow Handle Survival Knife in excellent condition but without the Sheath, I found two guys that would make me a sheath starting with lower prices then upping the ani but both needed the knife, I told the guy I'll buy the sheath he had for a Hollow handle knife he made that was similar size, But then he didn't want to do it. So again I Prayed, and I found a Sheath on Amazon and I just got it a few hours ago, It's made out of Buffalo Leather and sort of looks like a Paul Schieter Sheath for the Blackbird SK-5 anyhow he's very talented sheath maker but expensive, The Sheath came and even though it's a little wide, But because of the hill which is as wide as tge sheath, It made my day, I got a beautiful sheath for $35.00 That's what I'm talking about. I would luv a sheath like yours for my Rodent 7 and my Rodent 4 which prolly is my Fav. 2Knife carry. I lost the prior info.

    I see this was 2 years ago how were they received out of interest?always liked Dave's knives but the more I look at these the more they are looking like your average camp knives,and I'm surprised Im saying that here but the sheaths both look like they've come up short with half the handles exposed?the smaller knife looks too cobby for finer tasks,it all looks a bit half hearted,and I'm shocked at myself saying that.. considering what he's capable of.,sorry if that's harsh,if I'm missing something?
    ,sorry..

      +Mick Stacey he never did put this into production. The smaller knife is fantastic at smaller work though. It is very fine. The sheath is so well molded that the knife clicks into place like kydex. That said, he has really refined this sheath system since then.

      Blue Mountain Bushcraft and Outdoors ..he does do some nice work I had a chance of buying a couple of knives a few years back that were DB they wanted too much for them but I still kick myself..I should have bought em anyway...they do say cry once.very true..I can't be!ieve what his wsk goes for..one of them I looked at they wanted 1500!!out of interest as you have the inside info how many wsk has Dave made that are still in circulation ,and what variations or differences between early and later made examples??if you can I'd like to know so I know what the odds were of me ever getting one

    I you're going the knife set way, i don't see the point of the bushcraft knife having to be also full tang. If it's going to be used exclusively for light and precise work then there is no reason to be full tang. you could save quite some weight going with a lighter knife. Also those leather seaths seem way too bulky/heavy for their intended purpose (protecting the blade) and they are by nature susceptible to weather. Light plastic seath is the way to go.

    • @MichaelTravis12c27
      @MichaelTravis12c27  9 років тому +1

      Well, to each his own. Though the sheaths are not that bulky at all.

    Im sorry just cant see spending $800 to $950 a knife,, why ? when a $75 to 80$ knife will do the job, hell in some cases a 30$ knife will do all you need. Hell a knife more than a sound firearm ,, why?? (greed, want of money.) yea thats what id say. Show me how an 800$ knife is really that much better than a 80$ knife, you cant. you cant do it!! Hell even a well made kukri knife at 25$ to 30$ could out perform these 800$ over priced yuppie blades.Shit like this just pisses me off!! Shit you can buy a kukri & a Becker tool knife along with a mora & a 12ga. shotgun & still be well under 800$.

My wisdom/ insight & knowledge was gained the old fashion way..Ive been training/working with knives for well over 20 years,making my own blades for the past 8 years so i am very short with A holes & money grubbing knife makers, that charge way more than they should cause they sell to rich assholes that pay anything for close to nothing.

    Unless you live in a jungle, chopping with a knife just means you're dangerous, and someone to run from. There's an age old saying in the wilderness. "The bigger the knife, the bigger the fool."If you want one tool that will do everything a knife should do, short of being an axe, just buy any good knife with a four and a half or five inch blade. If that knife can't do it, and do it well, it is not a job for a knife. If you want two tools in one system to do everything, get one knife and one hatchet. Then you can not only do everything, you can do it without looking like a dangerous amateur when you start chopping with a knife, or like a potential psychopath when you walk around with two big knives in one sheath, and on a sling like that. And just use 1095 steel. 01 tool steel is great, if you never leave home and go out into the real wilderness.

      +James Ritchie Don't you think it's the old paper, stone, scissors kind of problem? For me, I'd like a third tool so it would be a 5-6" knife, forest axe and saw but that's too heavy and most of the time I can get away with a 4.5" blade and saw but then I don't have a steel hammer! Mora + Gomboy + HultsBruk Trekking axe, 'cos I'm just an old cheapskate :-))
