    Before my Father died 6 months ago, I had already heard but not listened to this song. When I said good bye to him, I understood its message and I like to think that He left this world surrounded by glory, love and honor as pictured in this song.
    I miss you, Ogiz, and I will always love you no matter how far death can set us apart, I know one day I will see you again.

    Got tired of the Google translate lyrics and asked my Swedish friend to translate the lyrics properly. I tried to make it sound fancy, but the meaning should be accurate:
    The Sun rises from the North,
    The Gyllenkam strongly crows,
    Again it sprouts from the soil,
    Beyond the gates of the family hearth
    Where drinks are offered by a maiden fair,
    Heat is emanating from the pyre,
    Around me I can hear my forefathers,
    Toasting for a good year and peace
    For a good year and peace
    Darkness flees, dawn rises
    Fé, Fé, Fé (an indication to the old Norse
    rune Féhu)
    x2
    Bones will be bones, blood will turn to blood,
    Flesh becomes flesh again,
    Again I find the courage of my past;
    Long live the dead of yore
    For a good year and peace
    Darkness flees, dawn rises
    Fé, Fé, Fé (an indication to the old Norse
    rune Féhu)
    x2

      As for the rune Féhu, which I think is of importance for the song meaning it is best translated into wealth or prosperity. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fehu

    I was almost moved to tears when I heard this song the first time. I was moved to tears when I red the lyrics and the translation. I hope to be able to listen to this song the moment I die. I like to imagine that those things happen in the afterlife. After all my deep roots originate in the North. Thanks for uploading.

      I hear you too, as well as this song Rob. The vocals are so powerful, the voice full of emotion. I, too, like to think this life might end in full knowledge. Our ancestors smile on us brother

    Fé in Portuguese means faith. Seems very suitable with the atmosphere the music brings.

      Upp stiger solen ifrån nord,
      Gyllenkam galer stort,
      Åter det växa ifrån jord,
      utanför ättens port.
      Bjuds där på dryck av fager mö,
      värms av ett vackert bål,
      kring mig jag höra fäder strö
      året och fridens skål.
      Til árs ok friðar
      Bort flyr mörker, ljuset bidar;
      Fé Fé Fé
      Til árs ok friðar
      Bort flyr mörker, ljuset bidar;
      Fé Fé Fé.
      Ben bliva ben och blod blir blod,
      kött bliver åter kött,
      åter jag finner gammalt mod;
      leva skall det som dött.
      Til árs ok friðar
      Bort flyr mörker, ljuset bidar;
      Fé Fé Fé
      Til árs ok friðar
      Bort flyr mörker, ljuset bidar;
      Fé Fé Fé.

      The sun rises from the north,
      Cock (gyllenkam) crows loudly,
      Again it grows from soil,
      outside the gate of the family.
      Offered there drink by fair maid,
      heated by a beautiful fire,
      around me I hear fathers litter
      the year and the bowl of peace.
      Year to year and peace
      Darkness flees away, light bites;
      Fé Fé Fé
      Year to year and peace
      Darkness flees away, light bites;
      Fé Fé Fé.
      Bones become bones and blood becomes blood,
      meat becomes meat again,
      again I find old courage;
      live it shall die as dead.
      Year to year and peace
      Darkness flees away, light bites;
      Fé Fé Fé
      Year to year and peace
      Darkness flees away, light bites;
      Fé Fé Fé.

    What language is this? I recognize some swedish, but what about parts like "Til árs ok friðar"?

    • @jormunganir3517
      @jormunganir3517 2 роки тому +2

      Most of the song is in Swedish. As for 'Til árs ok friðar', I think it was an Old Norse cheer of celebration, meaning 'For a good year and peace'.

    Love the song (actually my favourite of this band), love the lyrics, but dislike the fact that the grammar is off. I have no problems with the archaic plural verb forms, but you can't use 'em in singularis. Sorry for bring a grammar Nazi, but I can't help it.
